🌊 Kaputaş Beach is a famous natural beach on Turkey's Mediterranean coast, nestled in a narrow gorge between sheer cliffs along the D400 highway, 20 km from Kaş and 5 km from Kalkan. 🌊 The beach is renowned for its vivid turquoise waters, sandy-pebble shoreline, and the spectacular view from the roadside observation deck. 🌊 We drove 170 km from Kemer just to see this gorgeous spot, and we didn't regret it for a second. The beach is absolutely breathtaking! 🌊 The cove is tucked between two steep cliffs that shield it from the wind. A long staircase of 180 steps leads down to the water—going down is a breeze, but climbing back up in the heat is quite a workout. 🌊 As a municipal beach, renting sun loungers and umbrellas comes at an extra cost. 💙 If I had to choose just one hotel I'd go back to, it would definitely be Alley Prime Hotel. Even the locals told us that this is one of the most beautiful and comfortable hotels in Kas. 🌊 The main advantage is the location. · The hotel is located in a quiet part of the Çukurbağ Peninsula, away from the noisy center. It offers stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea and the Greek island of Kastellorizo, and in the evening you can watch one of the most beautiful sunsets in Kas. 🚕 Getting to the city center takes about 8–10 minutes by car or 10–15 minutes by taxi. 🌊 First coastline The hotel has set up a beautiful platform right above the sea with comfortable sun loungers, umbrellas, and stairs leading down to the water. The water here is incredibly crystal clear, and thanks to the rocky shore, it has a rich turquoise color. By the way, the hotel grounds are perfect for taking those vibrant, Pinterest-worthy photos that need absolutely no editing. 🍳 Breakfasts deserve a special mention This is not a classic buffet. Every morning they serve a large Turkish breakfast with dozens of small plates: · fresh vegetables and fruits · several types of cheese · homemade jams · eggs · pastries · desserts · tea, coffee, or juice. Just be prepared—the water here is noticeably colder than in places like Antalya or Alanya. 🏖️ The Beach Kalkan itself has a pebbly town beach that is an easy walk away. 🏡 Where to Stay If you want to stay right among the most picturesque streets, choose the town center. However, keep in mind that restaurants and bars stay open late, so it can get a bit noisy. Also, check how close you are to the local mosque—if you're a light sleeper, this is definitely something to consider. If you have a sensitive sleep, this can be important. 🍝 Where to Eat The sea-view restaurants are absolutely gorgeous, but they come with a hefty price tag. This is one of Turkey’s longest sandy beaches, famous as a nesting ground for Caretta Caretta (loggerhead) sea turtles. The ancient ruins of the city of Patara are located right nearby, making it easy to turn this into a half-day or even full-day trip. 🇬🇧 The Crowd We were surprised to find that the vast majority of tourists here are British. It's no secret that Turkey's most popular beach, nestled between the high cliffs of the Mediterranean Sea, is Kaputas Beach! 🐚 It's located between the resorts of Kas (approximately 20 km from the beach) and Kalkan (approximately 7 km). Its signature feature is its crystal-clear, deep turquoise water, golden sand, and a monumental cliff to the right of the beach. How to get there? The most convenient way is by car (we had our own, as we arrived in Turkey by car) or renting one. There's a small parking lot near the beach, but to get a spot, you need to arrive very early, right before the beach opens at 7:00 AM, or maybe even earlier. We arrived around 10:00 AM, and everything along the road to the beach was already parked, not to mention the parking lot. Those who run out of parking simply park along the road, both before and after the beach. We did the same and left our car around the corner after the beach. The beach is accessed via stairs leading from the road, and there's a door right on the stairs that's apparently closed outside of regular hours. The stairs are quite steep, but overall comfortable. There's a café, restrooms, showers, and changing rooms on site. 💵 Entrance fee: 50 lira per person. Sun loungers and umbrellas cost 230 lira each, with no time limit, but we didn't have a long stay, so we didn't rent any. Is it worth it? We were lucky; the beach was half empty, there weren't many people, and we were able to enjoy the beautiful weather while swimming in the turquoise sea. This is the best beach I've ever seen! We brought a mask, and our child even managed to spot the fish, the water was so clear. The beach's main drawback is its popularity. During peak season, it's very crowded and often feels crowded. While the walk there is relatively easy, the climb back...is a bit of a struggle. Especially in the heat. In Kalkan, I booked a small boutique hotel called Old Kalamaki Pansiyon. It's a cozy little hotel with a homey vibe. To be honest, I prefer places like this much more than star-rated chain hotels with buffets. They have a certain soul to them 🙌🏻 It feels like you're visiting a friend, rather than just checking into a room 🥹 The hotel itself is small, super cozy, featuring an interesting interior and plenty of lovely little details. By the way, boutique hotels like this are way more common in Kalkan than your typical large hotels. 🍳 Every morning, the hostess personally cooked a traditional Turkish breakfast for the guests. She's also the receptionist and the one who greets everyone. I didn't see any other staff during our entire stay. She's a very sweet and welcoming girl ☺️ I used a few basic phrases in Turkish, and if we needed to clarify anything, we'd switch to English. Breakfast is served right in the courtyard on one of Kalkan's most beautiful streets. You sit at a table surrounded by stone houses, flowers, and cozy touches. Another huge plus of this hotel is its location. It's situated right in the heart of Kalkan, on one of the prettiest streets in town. You step out the door and instantly find yourself amidst cozy cafes, little shops, blooming balconies, and those very atmospheric streets that draw so many people here. 🌊 Plus, the sea is super close. You just walk down the street for a few minutes, and you're already at the promenade and the city beach. I booked the hotel through Trip.com. Since it was my first time using the platform, I got to use a welcome promo code for 1,300 rubles off. 💲 In the end, a room with breakfast included came out to 8,580 rubles a night.

Locate Könül plajı! It's located near Oludeniz, on the way from Fethiye to Kaš. Take the D400 highway; you'll see a trash can near the seaside fence. There's a small entrance next to it that leads down! This is a less-traveled, off-the-beaten-path spot; be careful as you'll have to walk along a small mountain/rocky path. Wearing sneakers is highly recommended. The heart-shaped cave is best photographed from the right angle. The main attraction is that in the city center you'll find an ancient amphitheater and Lycian tombs, which are free to enter. And just across the bay is the Greek island of Kastellorizo, where boats sail in the summer. The beaches here are mostly pebble. The most beautiful are located outside the city: Kaputaş – a famous turquoise bay between cliffs. Patara – a vast sandy beach (up to 20 km long), where turtles nest. It's a diver's paradise (there are ruins and sunken planes underwater) and an excellent place for hiking along the Lycian Way. Getting there The most convenient way to get there is via Antalya (about 200 km) or Dalaman (about 150 km). Buses and minivans run from both cities to Kas. You can also rent a car or scooter to explore the area independently. We drove from Kemer (an area of ​​Antalya). The 165 km road is spectacular and very beautiful. There are some switchbacks, of course, but without any steep climbs or descents. The drive took about 3 hours. The town itself is small, so you can walk the entire area. Everything is cozy, compact, and steeply historical.

The sea is absolutely gorgeous, the sky is brilliantly blue, and the vibe is just so chill! ☺️🩵 You can easily take an overnight bus from Cappadocia and arrive in Antalya right in the morning. From there, rent a car and drive down to Kaş—the coastal views around there are absolutely breathtaking! Now it's one of the most atmospheric (in photos) and simultaneously eerie (in reality) abandoned places on the Turkish coast. On Instagram: sunset, ruins overlooking the sea, stone arches, a basketball court. In reality: rusty rebar, piles of broken glass, the smell of urine, snakes, and a persistent feeling that someone you don't want to meet is about to emerge from a dark corner. And the obligatory quest: crawl through a hole in the fence. I'll tell you honestly how to find it, whether it's worth it, and why I'll never set foot there again. What kind of hotel was it and why did it die? The Aquapark Hotel in Kaş was built as a dream entertainment complex. The grounds are on a cliff, with rooms overlooking the Greek island of Megisti. Inside, there's a water park (not a pool, but actual slides), a diving center, and soccer and basketball courts right on the cliff's edge. Can you imagine scoring a goal overlooking the Mediterranean? But something went wrong. No one knows the exact story: either the owners ran out of money, or weren't granted a license, or the season was ruined by the economic downturn. The hotel didn't last long—and became a backdrop for stalkers and TikTokers. Now it's Kaş's prime Instagram spot for those willing to take the risk for likes. Where it is and how to find it (step-by-step instructions) Landmark: the "Jackey" Hotel sign Drive along the main road in Kaş toward the Çukurbağ Peninsula. Look for the "Jackey Hotel" sign (or "Jackey"—it's large and visible from afar). This is a functioning hotel, not abandoned. You can park your car nearby—it's safe and legal. Then proceed on foot. 1. Get out of the car and put on high-soled sneakers (this is important, I warned you). 2. Cross the road (be careful, Turkish drivers are reckless). 3. Look for the hole in the fence. It's not very noticeable, but locals know it. The fence is metal, and the hole is about waist-high; you can squeeze through, but you'll have to bend over and get dirty. Coordinates (approximately): near 36.1915° N, 29.6270° E. The easiest way is to enter "Jackey Hotel Kaş" into your GPS and then follow the directions. What awaits you inside Immediately after the fence Glass. Lots of glass. Broken bottles, shards of glass, broken dishes. It crunches underfoot, sparkles in the sun, and digs into your soles. That's why sneakers are a must-have. You simply won't reach the ruins in flip-flops. Further on—ruins. Concrete blocks, peeling paint, rusty rebar sticking out of the walls. Here and there, mosaic tiles still remain in the pools. The water park slides are lifeless—yellow plastic pipes now inhabited by spiders and lizards. The basketball hoop still hangs on the cliff. Rusty, crooked, but very photogenic against the sea. There are also soccer goals—the field is overgrown with thorns. The view Stunning. Honestly. The sea is turquoise, and in the distance is Greece, the island of Megisti. If you climb higher, it feels like you're in some kind of post-apocalyptic paradise. That's exactly what people come here for. The Unpleasant Part Snakes. Yes, they're there. · Trash. Cans, bags, cigarette butts, broken glass. · Anxiety. You're alone in an abandoned hotel. Not a soul around. If something happens, no one will hear. Cell phone reception is spotty. And at any moment, someone could show up—local alcoholics, fellow tourists, or people you'd rather not meet. Life hacks (if you still decide to go) 1. Go in a group. No solo hikes. Minimum two, preferably 3-4. Don't go with just one girl. Seriously. 2. Only morning or early evening. Between 11:30 and 15:00, it's scorching hot, with almost no shade. Between 5 and 7:00 PM, it's beautiful, but you risk returning through a hole in the fence at dusk. The sunset is gorgeous, but it's best to get there before dark. 3. Shoes, shoes, shoes I repeat: sneakers with high, stiff soles. Sneakers are out. Flip-flops are a no-no. 4. Water, snacks, power bank There are no cafes or shops nearby. Water: at least a liter per person. Phones drain quickly (bad reception, and turning up the screen brightness for photos drains the battery enormously). 5. Don't climb inside buildings. It's better to look from the outside. Inside, it's dark, damp, full of rebar, glass, and an unhealthy smell. And snakes. Once again, snakes. 6. Don't leave valuables in the car. The Jackey Hotel area is generally safe, but still, don't provoke anyone. Take your phone and bag with you. What's not worth visiting (spoiler: almost everything) Honestly? I won't go there again. One beautiful shot against the backdrop of ruins and the sea isn't worth the risk of cutting yourself, encountering a snake, or running into unpleasant people. A photo you worry about while taking is a bad photo. If you're going to Kaş for 3-4 days, have a sober companion, strong nerves, and closed shoes, you can take the risk. But be aware: when asked, "Is it worth it?" the locals shrug and recommend going to Kaputaş Beach or ancient Xanthos. Turkey has plenty of atmospheric abandoned places. The Kaş Aquapark isn't the safest of them. Alternative (and this is no joke) If you really want a view of "a piece of Greece" and ruins: Just go to the Kaş waterfront near the fortress. There are old stone walls, the sea, and that same Megisti Island on the horizon. It's free, safe, and has restrooms and a café. Or climb up to the amphitheater in Kaş—ancient Lycian ruins with a stunning view of the bay. It's also atmospheric, but civilized. No holes in the fences. No snakes. No anxiety. My verdict The abandoned Aquapark in Kaş is an Instagram bubble. In the photo, it looks like a dream. In reality, it's broken glass, trash, and a feeling of "I can't wait to get out of here." 💙 I've always longed for the blue Turkey along the Mediterranean coast, so I specially reserved two days in the town of Kaş. This decision allowed us to see two different but equally beautiful Kaş towns. 🚗 Transportation: Fly directly from Istanbul to Dalaman Airport, then rent a car for self-driving. After staying one night in Fethiye, drive about 2 hours along the D400 highway to Kaş town. 🌊 From Fethiye to Antalya, it is recommended to travel clockwise. You can drive on the seaside outer lane, making it convenient to stop by for sightseeing and photos anytime. Beautiful check-in spots include: 1️⃣ Bougainvillea by the sea 📍 Navigate to Kaptan Pansiyon 🌸 The bougainvillea is right in the alley opposite it. Walk uphill from the main road, and on the left side facing the sea, you will see an alley full of blooming bougainvillea. At the end is the jelly shining under the sun, and there are also napping cats in the alley. This peaceful moment probably means the beauty of life. 2️⃣ Stroll slowly along the coastline of the bougainvillea old street. There are many wonderful restaurants worth staying to appreciate the beauty of life. 3️⃣ Kaputas Beach 📍 Kaputas Beach, beside the D400 highway, about 20 km from Kaş town, between Kaş and Kalkan. ☀️ Sunny version: A jelly sea spilled by God! We work hard just to be able to waste our lives in these beautiful places. Doing nothing seems to have all the meaning. Patara Beach near Kaş is where a beach visit turns into a full nature-and-history route: an ancient Lycian city, a huge sandy coastline, dunes, open sea, wind, and a protected shore where Caretta Caretta sea turtles come to nest in season. This is a place to plan for at least a half-day, not just a quick swim stop, if you want to see both Patara Ancient City and the beach. Patara Ancient City is an important part of the experience. It was one of the key cities of Lycia, connected with the Lycian League, and during the Roman period Patara remained the capital of the region. In the archaeological site, you can see the theatre, ancient streets, ruins, baths, the parliament building, old stone structures and traces of a city that was once an important port. This is why Patara feels much deeper than a regular beach stop. We drove here from Kaş, and the road takes about 40-45 minutes. Our mistake was not leaving enough time for the archaeological site, so if I went again, I would plan it differently: ancient city first, then dunes and beach. The entrance is currently 15 euro, but check the latest price before going. The beach feels very different from the small bays around Kaş. Here you get wide sand, open space, mountains on the horizon and a wild coastline feeling. We visited at the end of September, and it was very windy, with active waves, so we did not swim. Even without swimming, Patara works as a strong stop: walking, photos, dunes, wind, sea and scale. ✨️ Travel tip: do not plan Patara as a quick beach visit. Give time to the whole complex: ruins, dunes and beach. Bring water, a hat, sunglasses and something for the wind, especially outside the summer peak. If you want to swim, consider the season, wind and waves before going. 🎈 Patara is best for travelers who like places where nature and history come together: ancient Lycia, a long sandy beach, dunes, Caretta Caretta turtles and open sea in one trip. First, the light falls on the harbor, boats and water, then the lighthouse turns into the main silhouette, and the mountains and islands become darker against the sky. Come to the marina about 30-40 minutes before sunset if you want to catch the shift from golden light to evening lights. After sunset, walk into the old town. Stone streets, bougainvillea, carpets outside small shops, cozy bars, cafes, restaurants for different tastes, and tour offices with boat trips, Kekova and diving for the next day are all close to each other.
