( I TOOK GREAT CARE IN EXAMINING ALL PICTURES SO THAT THEY DO NO REVEAL ANY NUDITY AND DO NOT VIOLATE COMMUNITY RULES) There are many tribes that share the land along the Omo River in the southern most parts of Ethiopia. These tribes have been there for thousands of years and they are truly fascinating, warm and very resilient people. If you’re traveling to either northern Kenya or in the southern part of Ethiopia I suggest you ask your guide to help you arrange a visit to one or more of these Tribal Community’s. I was not allowed to post any pictures showing any private parts so the ones I have are very limited because most of the tribes do not wear much clothing like we do in the west, the temperatures can exceed 40°C and clothing is just not an option. The children were so grateful just for a mouth full of water from a plastic bottle. The women were crafts-makers and their jewelry was remarkable with all natural bead work that was dyed bright colors from natural ingredients. Their clothing was all handmade with striking colors and style. All the men from the tribes are gone to either hunt or work in the fields. The women are left with the children to raise as that is their customs. #africa #ethiopia #travel #wanderlust #travelling #traveller #travelphotography #instatravel #adventure #journey #travelgram #travelpassion #travellifestyle #MyTripVlog #wonderlust #trip #ilovetravel #traveling #traveladdicted #travelgoals #traveljournal #traveladdict #bestvacations #travelphotos #traveler #tourist #travelblog #tourism #2023travelwish

Exploring Ethiopia through Lucy Tours (2-Day Tigray Church Tour & 4-Day/3-Night Omo Valley Tour) was a highlight of my travels. The planning and attention to detail on the ground were top-notch from beginning to end. · *Tigray Tour:** Despite the sensitive security situation in Tigray, Lucy Tours ensured the trip felt entirely safe and smoothly managed. The driver, Mr. Birhan, and local guide, Mr. Fkre Aregawi, were exceptionally professional, knowledgeable, and reliable, flawlessly executing the itinerary without a hitch. · *Omo Valley Tour:** Our guide and driver, Mr. Yoni, was amazing. His strong ties with the local communities enabled us to experience a Hamar tribe bull jumping ceremony precisely as planned. Moreover, when my airline delayed delivering my baggage, Mr. Yoni went the extra mile—literally—driving over 120 km from the airport to personally bring my luggage to my hotel. The team's dedication, kindness, and meticulous attention to detail made this trip truly unforgettable. I’m deeply thankful to Mr. Yoni, Mr. Birhan, and Mr. Fkre Aregawi, and I wholeheartedly recommend Lucy Tours!

We traveled to Ethiopia with Ethio Afro Tours in January 2026 and had an amazing time. Our itinerary included four days in the Danakil Depression, explorations of the Omo Valley, the Bale Mountains, and Addis Ababa. The lodges, food, professional guides, driver, and vehicle were all top-notch. Everything was seamless, communication was straightforward, and the team frequently checked in to ensure we were comfortable and enjoying the trip. Their excellent organization and attention to detail made our journey unforgettable. We strongly recommend Ethio Afro Tours to anyone seeking a safe, well-organized, and memorable Ethiopian adventure!

Hello George, I want to thank you, on behalf of my family and myself, for the excellent organization of our family trip to Ethiopia, particularly around Jimma and the Omo Valley. Your expert guidance made it a truly unique experience for all of us. A special thanks for accommodating our special requests, which were often quite spontaneous and not simple. We would gladly enlist your services as our organizer and guide again for our next journey. Christoph

I had an incredible time in Ethiopia, thanks to Betty from Absolute Ethiopia who crafted an exciting itinerary tailored to my interests in culture, religion, and tribes. My trip wouldn’t have been as memorable without Kibru, an amazing tour guide with excellent knowledge and communication skills, and Fish, our driver in the Omo Valley. I felt safe the whole time, and everything exceeded my expectations. This is a country worth revisiting, and I’m already planning my return.

We spent an incredible week traveling through Ethiopia's Southern regions, including the Omo Valley, with Daniel. He proved to be an outstanding and experienced driver, as well as an extremely professional guide. He consistently ensured our comfort, organized local guides when needed, and was always friendly, humorous, and accommodating. Parting ways with him to continue to Addis was difficult. We highly recommend him and look forward to touring more of this amazing country with him soon.

This is the top tour agency in Ethiopia. Mohamed is reliable and friendly, always going out of his way to assist and adapt to our needs throughout the tours. We had amazing experiences in Addis Ababa, Lalibela, Harar, the Danakil Depression, and the Omo Valley! Don’t hesitate to give them a call if you’re planning a trip to Ethiopia!

Had a great tour with Teddy exploring the valley. He is a knowledgeable guide who made the Omo Valley Tribal Tours an unforgettable experience. It was fascinating to learn about the unique traditions and lifestyles of Ethiopia’s indigenous communities. We were well taken care of and gained so much insight. Truly a unique adventure!

Reflecting on this trip a year later, it truly was an incredible experience. It took me a year to get over losing a couple of Nile perch I hooked during the journey. I still occasionally dream about that screaming drag—might need to return to make that dream come true. Carlos was an absolute gentleman, going far beyond expectations in every way. From the start, the trip was expertly organized, smooth, and easy to navigate in terms of communication. The fishing trips don’t offer luxury stays—this is remote, adventure-packed angling, and it fully delivered on the excitement! Though the Nile perch evaded us, we still caught fascinating species like electric catfish, vundu, and many others. On top of that, we enjoyed phenomenal wildlife encounters. Exploring the Omo Valley tribes added a unique cultural touch to the experience. Overall, it was an amazing adventure led by a lovely, accommodating crew. Perfect for anglers with a passion for exploration. Highly recommend!

Had a bit of a departure from my usual holiday spots and ended up in the Omo Valley in southern Ethiopia. It’s quite a shift from Wellington, to say the least. We used Jinka as our base, which is a pretty dusty, busy little town. From there, we headed out to a few of the nearby villages. For me, the Ari village was a real highlight. Being a designer, I'm always fascinated by how things are made. I watched a local woman shape a perfectly round clay plate entirely by hand. No pottery wheel, no tools, just shaping a lump of red mud in a matter of minutes. The level of spatial awareness and raw skill was just incredible to watch. We also visited the Mursi village, about 50km out. Seeing the lip plates in person is quite something. The villagers were selling some basic hand-carved wood and beadwork, which felt very tourist-focused but understandable. On the drive, we ran into some Banna boys performing on high stilts by the roadside. It’s a bit of a spectacle, but it left me with rather mixed feelings. All the kids follow you around asking for 'gifts', 'pencils', or 'chocolate'. I didn't have much on me to give them, which felt a bit awkward and left me feeling a bit down afterwards. An eye-opening trip, if a bit heavy at times. Glad I experienced it.

They rarely communicate with each other and often fight over territory. Select representative tribes to visit, most of which are in the south near Turmi, close to Kenya. 1️⃣Dasenech: To reach this village, you need to ride in a canoe made from fig trees, offering the closest depiction of African portraits. They are also the only tribe that still practices circumcision, which is illegal now, but still exists in remote tribes. There is a small market in the village square every day, selling handicrafts. Visitors can barter, with clothes being quite popular. 2️⃣Hamer: Also known as the 'Red Mud Tribe', they have the Bull jumping ceremony. Unmarried individuals with hair curtains and the main wife with a wooden collar. 3️⃣Karo: The face-painting tribe living in the Omo Valley, they apply white mud dug up from the valley on their faces. 4️⃣Mursi: Between Mago National Park and the World Heritage Site Omo Valley, where the oldest human stone tools were found, live the lip-plate tribe Mursi, the only tribe living in a national park, with about 50 small settlements. They move every month or two because the grass for the animals is depleted. They don't eat guinea fowl, only the eggs, and no one knows why. They are aggressive, so speak less when entering their village. The lip plates are made of clay, and the ear plates are made of wood. 5️⃣Dorze village: Didn't visit, only know they produce attractive small scarves. 6️⃣ Banna: The stilts tribe. Whether in the south or north, the roadblocks for extortion are not for money, but for water, which is a hard currency here, and you can't buy it even if you have money. The stilts tribe stops people for water. 🎁Keyafa Market: It's held every Thursday, quite large, but you can't really buy anything; it's all local produce, handicrafts, and clothing. 💰Chartered car: 3 days, including airport transfers, all food, water, and photography fees, basic accommodation costs 600 US dollars per car. I thought that in today's modern society, I have long since taken off the original society. I didn't expect to come to the Dimeku Market in Ethiopia. I can also see how strangers can change things. A distant, magical, primitive, ancient country with a history of more than 3,000 years of civilization, retaining some of the most primitive peoples in the world. At the market, the women of the Hamar family spread the pots, the beasts, the animal bone necklaces, and of course the big hair dyes on the ground, waiting for the buyer. Trading is mostly done in the form of barter, but currency is also circulated.

In Ethiopia, there is a peculiar custom that men use whip to whip a woman's body to show love. What is God doing? The women of the Hamar ethnic group are the most beautiful women in the Mohe Valley. Most of them are naked and covered with a piece of cowhide or sheepskin in the lower body as a skirt. The hair is braided into countless small braids, coated on the body and hair. A mixture of butter and earth, bright brown. The women of the Hamar nation will begin to leave scars on their bodies when they are 12 years old. At the ceremony of the adult ceremony, they rushed to the man who requested the last successful jump, and beat himself with a rattan. The whips are everywhere, the skin is fleshy and bloody, and the girls express their strong love and blessings to the hoppers.

The Golden Card in southern Ethiopia is a remote town. If it weren't for the people living in this neighborhood with a lot of primitive tribes, probably no one would be willing to come. It is dusty, inconvenient, the network is extremely slow, and it often stops water and electricity. Everything shows that it seems to be far from modern civilization. There are several bazaars in the town of jinka. Every time the agreed days are gathered, people from the surrounding tribes come and are very lively. It is said that the market on Saturday is the biggest, not only can you see the Hamo tribe, the Bangna tribe, but also many people of the lip dish.

In the Golden Card in southern Ethiopia, no one will pay attention to Abushe, a 7-year-old who lives on the streets of Kinca. Abushe suffers from Waddenberg's syndrome because the color of the eyes is too different from others, and others are not willing to approach him, thinking that he is a cursed alien. But if you see his eyes, you will see incredible blue eyes.

After leaving the southernmost Turmi, we have to turn back and go north to reach the gold card, which is completely different from the terrain of Tourmi, and enters the forest area. This is a group of children who have seen stilts on the road. Spend five dollars to take a photo with them. We live in a tent hotel deep in the forest, a very interesting place, even the restaurant is a tree house. Although the dark gratitude at night is very scary, I can hear the wolf all night at night and wake up in the morning, which is a very unique experience.
