Ishikari District travel guide and discussion

If you're arriving in Hokkaido on a late flight, or catching an early one the next day, I highly recommend staying at the hotel located on the 4th floor of the New Chitose Airport domestic terminal. You won't have to drag your luggage around to catch a ride—you can just walk straight to check-in, making your trip a breeze right from day one. This time, I stayed in a double room. The space was surprisingly more spacious and comfortable than I expected. Even with two large suitcases laid open at the same time, it didn't feel cramped at all. The room was clean and bright overall, and the bed was cozy, perfect for a good night's rest. The part I looked forward to the most after checking in was relaxing at the hot spring facility, which is also located on the 4th floor of the domestic terminal. It's fully equipped with natural hot springs, open-air baths, saunas, massage services, and a relaxation lounge. Taking a soak before heading back to the room to sleep truly washes away all the travel fatigue. The best part is that New Chitose Airport is more than just an airport; it's almost like a mini shopping mall. It features a wide variety of Hokkaido souvenir shops, including popular brands like Shiroi Koibito, Royce', LeTAO, Rokkatei, and Kitakaro. You can get practically everything here in one go without having to make a special trip downtown. The dining options are also fantastic, ranging from Hokkaido ramen, Genghis Khan (grilled mutton), sushi, and seafood rice bowls to soup curry, desserts, and cafes. It's super convenient, whether you want to grab a bite right after arriving or savor the local cuisine one last time before leaving Hokkaido. If you're planning a trip to Hokkaido, consider booking the New Chitose Airport hotel for your first or last night. It's the perfect way to give your journey the most comfortable and relaxing start or finish.

Royce’ Cacao & Chocolate Town #JapanTravel #Japan #Hokkaido #HokkaidoTravel #HokkaidoFood #foodie Royce’ Cacao & Chocolate Town The area around the factory is extremely open, very cold and windy. Entering the factory, you can see the process of cocoa trees from budding, flowering, and fruiting to harvesting and refining into chocolate. The entire factory doesn't have the chocolate aroma you might expect. It's extremely clean, including public areas; you won't find a single hair. It's a place worth visiting for couples and families. Interviews are available for an additional fee. Transportation Information: Take the JR Sasunuma Line from Sapporo Station to ROYCE' Station. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes. The total cost is 540 yen.

Futomi Station is a small station in Ishikari, Hokkaido, not far from Sapporo. 🇯🇵 There may not be many major sightseeing attractions right around the station, but it’s an interesting place to stop by and get a feel for everyday life outside Sapporo. A Satsudora drugstore recently opened nearby, making the area a little more convenient. There is also Ramen Nakamura, a popular local spot if you’re looking for ramen. 🍜 Another well-known area nearby is Sweden Hills, a residential area known for its distinctive Scandinavian-style atmosphere. 🏡🇸🇪 If you’re exploring the area around Sapporo and want to see a quieter side of Hokkaido, Futomi is a simple place to visit and explore.

This took us about 40 min from Sapporo station to get to. We took the Gakuentoshi Line and rode 11 stops to ROYCE’ TOWN Station Then we took a free bus ride from the train station to the actual factory. This was only a 5 min ride and you can probably walk it in under 10 min. Admission can be purchased online or at the door. There is NOTHING else around this town other than the chocolate factory so plan accordingly. Stay tuned for my ROYCE’ factory gift shop/bakery experience!

Hit the road from Sapporo for a dreamy 2-day, 1-night self-drive adventure through Hokkaido’s vibrant flower fields and stunning countryside vistas! 🚗🌸 This route is all about wide-open landscapes, colorful gardens, and clear blue skies—every turn brings a new jaw-dropping view. Start your day at ROYCE' CACAO&CHOCOLATE TOWN (10:00–17:00, last admission 15:00) in Tobetsu for a chocolatey morning—tour the factory, enjoy sweet samples, and snap a pic of their modern architectural design surrounded by vivid garden beds (flowers galore + chic building = insta-gold under the sun!). Later, head to Biei’s world-famous Shirogane Blue Pond (08:00–21:00), where turquoise waters reflect white birches—get your camera ready for the surreal reflection shot at the railings near the main viewpoint. Cruise on to Nakafurano’s Farm Tomita (09:00–17:00, May–Oct) to stroll endless rows of lavender and rainbow-coloured blooms—don’t skip the classic “field leading to Mt. Tokachi” wide shot. For lunch, grab their lavender ice cream or fresh melon! In nearby Biei, detour to Panoramic Flower Gardens Shikisai-no-oka (times vary by season, generally 08:40–17:30 in summer) for tractor rides and panoramic “carpet” flower shots (sunny weather brings out the best colors—your summer postcard moment!). Wrap up your day at Tokachi hill observatory in Otofuke (open all day)—I recommend arriving for golden hour; the sweeping farm views and soft Hokkaido light will make even your phone shots look pro. End the day with a visit to Ningle Terrace, with the forest illuminated with romantic fairy lights and small huts with local art products. Tips: The rural drive is surprisingly smooth and relaxing; try to set out early to maximize daylight for photo stops. Summer gets busy—book accommodations in Furano early. Bring sunglasses and a light jacket (temps can change quickly). #HokkaidoRoadTrip #FuranoFlowers #BieiBluePond #SelfDriveJapan #TravelInspo

Accessible by JR train, a factory bus picks up and drops off at the station. The tour showcases the chocolate cultivation and production process, and includes games that children will enjoy. Delicious chocolates are also available for purchase. A visit should ideally take half a day to a full day. Free lockers are available for storing luggage before entering.

Here you can get a comprehensive tour to how a Royce chocolate made. From how the cocoas are harvested and how the chocolates are packaged and sold. There’s also a massive game room (not pictured sadly) where you can have a hands-on game experience to create chocolate. Another activity you can sign up for is the make your own Royce chocolate. I think this is where you combine your own creativity to create an artwork with different colored and size chocolate. The shop also got a lot of exclusives that aren’t available in other places! The tour was 1200yen per person.

Are you tired of the crowds in Sapporo and Otaru? This time, I want to open a snowy door and take you to a hidden gem that even many locals in Hokkaido might not have heard of—Tōbetsu Town. Here, there are no tourist groups, only knee-deep powder snow, a shrine quietly revered in silence, and a pristine forest waiting for you to leave your mark. 🌨️【Tōbetsu Town · Two Days and One Night Immersive Snow Country Diary】🌨️ ❶ Tōbetsu Shrine · Facing History in a Snow Garden This is one of the very rare “Personage Shrines” in Hokkaido, dedicated to the pioneering hero Kuninao Ida. Put on specially prepared traditional clothing, listen to a passionate story inside the hall, then gently step into the wide snow garden covered in pure white. ❷ Forest Snowshoe Trek · Entering a “Heavy Snow” Fairy Tale The snow in Tōbetsu is Hokkaido’s “hidden gem”—thicker, softer, and quieter. In the forest, I wore snowshoes for the first time. Not walking, but “floating” on knee-deep snowfields. Try your hand at logging, watch the axe shake snow off the treetops like a waterfall; sledding, building snowmen, and ice sculptures~ The real snow forest is not just a view, it’s a full-body experience. ❸ Dusk · Ending with Warmth In the evening, heal your body with steaming hot Jingisukan barbecue, then soak away the cold in a traditional hot spring bath. Day Two: 【Immersive Forest Time · Become Part of the Snow】 The real adventure begins when you step into the “Nakagoya Town Forest.” Put on ancient “kanjiki” (snowshoes) and step into waist-deep flawless powder snow. Try logging yourself, feel the solid vibration when the axe hits the tree trunk, and a cloud of snow mist. Sit around a campfire you started yourself, roasting food, sipping hot tea, and listening to the guide’s forest stories—at this moment, you are no longer a tourist but a temporary resident of this snowy forest. 【Snow Cabin Lunch · Warmth for the Senses】 Enjoy a surprising creative local meal in a cozy cabin by the forest. Fresh ingredients, plating as exquisite as a painting, paired with a cup of richly aromatic hand-drip coffee—this warmth and beauty deep in the snow country can heal the entire winter. 【ROYCE’ Town · Sweeten Your Journey】 We switch to a sweet factory filled with the aroma of cocoa. At the ROYCE’ chocolate factory, you can witness the magical process of chocolate creation and indulge in tasting various limited flavors. Don’t forget to take home a few boxes of freshly made raw chocolate. ✨【Why Recommend This Place?】 ▫️Super soft and abundant snow, outdoor snow activities far surpass ordinary tourist spots ▫️Deep integration of culture and nature, gaining both tranquility and adventure in one trip ▫️Truly off the beaten path and peaceful, as if you have the whole of Hokkaido to yourself 📌 Travel Tips: Transportation: About 40 minutes from Sapporo Station; self-driving or booking local transfers is recommended Clothing: Waterproof and warm clothing is a must! The snow in the forest is really deep If you’re tired of the typical Hokkaido trips, then this winter, you must come to Tōbetsu.

The moment I stepped inside, the rich aroma of chocolate surrounded me, instantly sparking joy. Watching artisans craft delicate treats through glass windows was mesmerizing, and the interactive exhibits made me appreciate the artistry behind each bite. With its whimsical design and warm atmosphere, Royce’ Chocolate Town felt like a cocoa wonderland worth savoring.

We rented a car for 5 days in Hokkaido from June 28- July 2. Weather is already hot but still cool at night time. Went to Mt. Moiwa on our arrival day and saw the dazzling view of the city. 2nd day- Visited Makomanai Takino Cemetery where we saw MOAI Statues, Stonehenge, and hilll of the buddha and Niseko. 3rd day- we went to Shikisai-no-Oka flower fields-it was raining at the time of our visit but the flowers were already in bloom. Checked on farm tomita and the blue pond after. 4th day- we went to Otaru Canal, Royce factory, Glass pyramid, and Shiroi Koibito Park. Of course, shopping at Mitsui Outlet Park and thrift shops. It was tiring but worth it! Will visit again to check on other places and on a different season perhaps #hokkaido #japan

Had a great time at Royce Cacao and Chocolate town!! To get there, you need to take a train to Royce Town Station, then you can either take a walk there/ board the free shuttle bus! It’s super neat but since it was raining when I went, I took the bus! Admission to the museum was 1200 yen, where you can learn so much about the history of chocolate and the manufacturing process! The museum was interactive and it was really fun! In the museum, for 1500yen you can make your own chocolate which was the highlight for me! You get to choose the type of chocolate you like, and they will give you fruits and nuts as topping. At the decoration area, you get there are tons of sprinkles you can use to decorate as well! The red sprinkle is strawberry flavoured and I regret not putting more 😭 it then undergoes a cooling process and you get to bring it home in a cute paper bag 😍 If you are not interested in the museum or the chocolate making, you can still make a trip there as there is a shop and bakery area where you can get souvenirs, bread and hot chocolate which was super delicious! #sapporo #japan #chocolate #museum

“A sweet journey to Tobetsu — my mother-in-law’s hometown — made even more special with a visit to the ROYCE’ Chocolate Factory. Surrounded by family and the scent of rich, velvety chocolate, we explored where world-famous treats are born and created memories that were just as sweet. It wasn’t just a tour — it was a connection to heritage, love, and the little joys that bring us together.” #Tobetsu #Royce’s chocolate factory

40 minutes from central Sapporo. 7 minutes walk from Royce Town Station 🚶♀️ There is a very large building with a familiar blue logo. When you enter, you will see a cafe, a shop, and a mold line (the process of cutting chocolate into shapes). By the way, this is free to enjoy. If you go further in, you will find an entrance to the cocoa farm zone, factory experience zone, chocolate workshop, and Royce Collection Street. You can learn a wide range of things, from the process of turning cocoa beans into chocolate to the history of Royce, and there are also games using the latest digital technology, so even those who don't know much about chocolate can enjoy it regardless of age ♡ Admission fee is 1,200 yen. It has three floors and a lot of content, so I think it's a great deal🉐 I stayed for three hours, but it wasn't enough💦 Reservations are required⚠️ 📍Address: 640-15 Bitoe, Tobetsu-cho, Ishikari-gun, Hokkaido 061-3775 🕰️Opening hours: 10:00-17:00 (last entry at 15:00) #0yentrip #royce #royce #chocolate #hokkaidotrip

#tripแจกโรงแรมฟรี For those who are visiting or have plans to visit Sapporo, I recommend a newly opened place that is not crowded yet. It is suitable for friends, lovers, or even families. It is Royce Chocolate Factory. This is a factory that produces and sells Royce chocolate. There is a museum that is very worthwhile because it teaches from the beginning of cocoa to the end of the chocolate production process. There is also a place for us to try making our own DIY chocolate. It is so much fun. #travel #sapporo

"ROYCE Cacao & Chocolate Town" opened on August 4, 2023, with the theme "Let's travel through chocolate." It is operated by ROYCE, which produces many chocolate products that are popular as Hokkaido souvenirs, including the smooth-melting "raw chocolate" and the exquisitely sweet and salty "potato chip chocolate." It is an experiential facility attached to the chocolate factory that is the production base of the chocolate. #0yentripJanuary2025 #Hokkaidotrip

The experience was great! After going through the introduction of the making of Royce Chocolates, we entered a play area with interactive games and a machine where you can get free chocolates!
