MAJESTIC MIRROR LAKE IN IPOH.
A Glimpse into History ⛏️
What makes this place truly haunting and beautiful is its past. Long before it was a tourist sanctuary, this area was a bustling iron ore mine. The very tunnel you walk through was hand-carved and blasted by miners who laboured here decades ago.
Along the path, information panels pay tribute to these workers, detailing the manual extraction techniques used to pull wealth from the earth. Today, the "Mirror Lake" exists because the quarrying eventually reached the water table, creating this serene reservoir where heavy machinery once roared.
A STEP BACK IN TIME.
Foundation (1893): Leong Fee founded the Hakka Tin Miners Club as a sanctuary for wealthy miners.
The Forbidden Four: In its heyday, the club was famous for the "four evils"—gambling, opium, prostitution, and triads—activities strictly reserved for club members.
Rebuilding (1929): The current three-story building replaced the original structure, showcasing a mix of local and Western architectural styles.
Modern Era (2015): It reopened as Malaysia’s first Hakka Tin Mining Museum, curated by ipohWorld to preserve the Kinta Valley's heritage.
BEAUTIFUL CAVE TEMPLE.
Visited Perak Cave Temple during my trip to Ipoh, and it truly lived up to its reputation as one of the most iconic and historical cave temples in Perak. This place has been around for ages, and you can immediately feel the sense of heritage and cultural depth the moment you step inside.
The staff were friendly and helpful, always ready to assist visitors or offer basic guidance. Even though the temple is well-known and can get busy, the people managing the place maintain an inviting and peaceful atmosphere, which adds to the overall experience.
A BEAUTIFUL PARK IN IPOH.
Nice medium sized park. Fairly clean. Large paddle boats for rent on a small lake.
Some gondolas on the bridges to sit and relax in the shade. A large soccer field and a place for skateboarders.
A nice playground for kids, bathrooms, snack shops, and a train ride. Plenty of picnic benches scattered around the park and along the river there's a nice path to walk on and a few restaurants, stores for gifts and toys, and a bumper car ride.
We visited the beautiful park in the morning and most of everything was closed until the afternoon.
GUNUNG LANG RECREATIONAL PARK.
Gunung Lang offers a peaceful escape with beautiful natural scenery, especially the limestone hills and lake views. The boat ride is a nice touch and adds to the relaxing atmosphere.
However, the park does feel a bit old and could use some refreshing. When we visited, the staff mentioned that some attractions are still under upgrading, so hopefully there will be improvements soon.
Overall, it’s a decent spot for a short visit or a quiet walk, especially if you enjoy nature. Just don’t expect too many activities at the moment.
A BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO VISIT IN IPOH.
For travellers who visit Ipoh, this destination definitely is a must-go. The ticket price for local adults is RM12.00.
There are quite a number of activities you can do inside the area such as riding a trishaw, cycling two people bicycles, hiking a small lane, feeding fishes and so on.
The landscape of this place is simply superb and magnificent.
The view is exhilarating.
It is a suitable place to temporarily calm your mind. The big pond surrounded by hills has a clean and clear water, where you can see fishes are swimming freely.
No matters kids, adults or elders can come here.
RESTAURANT WITH FINE FLAVOURS.
The restaurant is called Meating and it is a great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
The positioning is between fine dining and comfort food.
The ingredients are top quality and you immediately realize that there is a good chef in the kitchen.
The food is super tasty and the prices are reasonable.
The place is also relaxing and comfy.
I attach the pics of our lunch, just seeing them you can say that the food is yummy.
DINING BLISS IN IPOH.
Stumbled upon the lovely restaurant while driving around Ipoh.
The restaurant serves reasonably good food, as well as to our expectations. Pricing sits less than fine dining with a good range of offerings at different price points.
Good, friendly and attentive service.
Comfortable dining experience.
Plenty of street parking across the road.
RESTAURANT WITH ELEGANT SETTING.
We had a truly wonderful dining experience at Atapas. We were visiting Ipoh from the Kuala Lumpur and celebrated my mum’s birthday there. Had to do advance booking online and everything went smoothly and hassle free.
The food was outstanding, most especially the pastas, foie gras and desserts. We also ordered tomahawk in advance and the chef himself did the table side service. They also have an extensive wine selection. The wines that we recommended to us matched the dishes perfectly. Also don’t miss out on the desserts, really delicious.
We definitely made the right decision in celebrating at Atapas. The ambience fit perfectly with the occasion. They also have a karaoke room, aside from the private dining spaces.
BEAUTIFUL RESTAURANT WITH GOOD FOOD.
Exceptional service and excellent food.
My first time trying dry aged fish and the service crew were so patient in explaining the menu, and answering out questions.
Food was excellent and the service was implacable, with introductions of special sauces and refiling of water. This special dinner made my day.
A CLASSIC AND ELEGANT RESTAURANT.
We love this place.
The restaurant has that classic and elegant vibes with soothing background music playing while patrons enjoy their meals.
The staff were super friendly and helpful.
Such a chill and relaxing spot.
Food was good and beautifully served.
ANOTHER LOVELY CAFÉ IN IPOH.
Cosy café hidden upstairs offering plenty of pastries, cakes and baked goods. Everything is homemade and environment is comfortable.
Bubur cha cha crepe cake here is a must try. The cake itself is beautiful and represented bubur cha cha well as each component complemented each other well. Cake itself is not too sweet but the coconut milk layer can be slightly saltier.
The signature tiramisu is different than others as it has brownie layer below which can be a hit or miss based on your preference.
A COZY DAINTY BAKERY CUM CAFÉ.
Simple, cozy small dainty bakery and café that serves delicious savoury dishes and pastries. The true hidden gem in the town of Ipoh.
The price is considered above average but their food were delicious and well prepared with quality.
The staffs are friendly and helpful.
It is a pity as a seat is limited.
A GREAT CAFÉ TO REST AND RELAX.
Hidden on the second floor of a shop lot in Canning, Sourdough Ipoh Canning is a true gem for sourdough lovers. Their sourdough bread is the star of the show—crafted with care, naturally leavened, and boasting the perfect balance of crisp crust and airy, flavorful crumb. Due to its high demand, their loaves and pastries sell out quickly, so arriving early is highly recommended.
Beyond their exceptional bread, the café offers a Muslim-friendly menu featuring delicious sourdough-based dishes, from hearty sandwiches to wholesome breakfast options. The space itself is warm and inviting, making it a great spot to unwind.
BREAD BLISS CAFÉ.
I was wandering through the ipoh city for sourdough bread.
I stumbled upon Hygge Bake House. “Hygge” in Norway meant “warm” and it attracts me to go in the cafè.
The moment I stepped in the cafè, the varieties of pastries and sourdough breads called for me. The café's charm lies in its simplicity.
The white color walls and some vintage furniture create a warm and inviting ambiance, while the bright lighting and gentle music foster a sense of peace.
.If you are looking for a cozy spot to catch up with friends, Hygge Bake House delivers.
I ordered their French tomato soup with sourdough bread. The tomato soup was divine - creamy, thick with tomato and flavoured balance. The sourdough bread was crunchy on skin and soft in texture. I ordered a cup of long black. It’s normal taste, no specialty that I can find in it. However, it’s not bad to have to pair with my breakfast.
CAFÉ WITH LOVELY AMBIENCE.
Ferment Boulangerie has such a lovely ambient vibe and the location is very easy to access.
We tried the Spring Onion Cream Cheese Bagel. The texture was spot on crispy on the outside while remaining soft with a nice chew on the inside.
My only small critique is that it would have been even better if served warm.
The coffee was decent and hit the spot. Overall, a very good experience and definitely worth a visit.
CHIC CAFÉ WITH GOOD VIBE.
It is a nice café restaurant to enjoy brunch or lunch.
The pastries and pasta are really nice and tasty.
The service is good as the waiters or waitress are responsive to our requests.
The restaurant is run by a group of younger people. It is good to see the youngsters are hardworking and polite towards the guests.
It is not a surprise that the business is good here.
A NICE CAFÉ WITH GOOD SOURDOUGH IN IPOH.
We had a lovely lunch at Girlies.
The sourdough had such a nice crispy crust and was nice and soft on the inside we had the Something Smashed and Beef Ragu.
They were both incredibly tasty and well portioned. I love healthy food, and this place really hit the spot.
Nice, fresh and healthy ingredients, but also serving a bunch of different sweet treats and drinks if you are just interested in a coffee date.
ANOTHER FASCINATING DISCOVERY IN IPOH.
Another fascinating discovery situated in a hidden quaint corner of Ipoh.
Delicious cakes which were designed with artistic flair and skill, and the cafe was not crowded when I dropped by in the afternoon.
Accompanied my treats with a pot of peach fruity sunshine tea.
Must visit if you are in the vicinity and want a cosy café to relax with friends.
A QUAINT LITTLE CAFÉ TUCKED IN A CORNER.
It is another hidden gem in Ipoh.
A quaint little café with very good desserts.
Croissants was buttery and flaky. The cakes were very yummy as well.
The decor was nice and relaxing.
Definitely a must visit when in Ipoh.
The space is huge and aesthetically pleasing.
A LOVELY PATISSERIE.
While visiting and holidaying in Ipoh, we stumbled across this lovely patisserie.
You could say it is kind of a famous patisserie if you search on social media.
We tried their coffee and pastries, quite a lot of variety to choose from their café.
I picked an ice cappuccino Bailey and fresh bailey tiramisu, It tasted quite nice and the cake was quite creamy.
The only thing is it is quite hard to find a parking spot if you want to visit this café especially on holidays or weekends.
A GOOD 'BANANA RICE' IN IPOH.
Visited this café recently and had a wonderful experience.
The interior is beautifully designed and very comfortable.
The food was delicious especially the banana leaf set.
Service was fast and staff were polite and helpful.
RESTAURANT WITH RELAXING ENVIRONMENT.
Everything in this restaurant is very good and tasty.
Plus the service is also very good. The staff are friendly and helpful
after our dinner, they sent to our table, free taufufa.
The environment here is good.
The volume of the music is just right too
A FUSION CAFÉ IN IPOH.
We stumbled across the café while walking around in Ipoh.
The Nasi Lemak chicken tasted fantastic—flavorful and well-seasoned. Unfortunately, the rice was semi-uncooked and quite hard, which took away from the overall experience. It also took about 40 minutes to receive all our orders.
Another 30mins to receive our kaya butter toast. Total of only 4 tables occupied in the restaurant. Food has potential, but consistency and waiting time definitely need improvement.
A LOVELY HIDDEN RESTAURANT IN IPOH.
This is a lovely hidden restaurant, tucked in a hidden, quaint back alley in old town Ipoh.
Not many patrons, kind of quietband we like the palce.
The food is delicious. The waitress is friendly and the woodfire pizza is probably the best one can get in Ipoh.
A CAFÉ WITH AESTHETIC VIBE IN IPOH.
We stumbled upon the café on a rainy morning in December.
The margarita pizza was so authentic and delicious, and the seafood risotto was absolutely appetizing and flavorful.
The staff were very nice and provided great service.
The place is clean and has a really aesthetic vibe too.
RESTAURANT SERVING HOMEMADE PIZZAS.
The restaurant where we ate was absolutely delicious. We had homemade, wood-fired pizzas, and they were excellent.
We were even able to see the entire process, from preparation to baking, which made the experience even more enjoyable.
The owner was lovely and kindly offered us two bottles of kombucha so we could taste her specialties.
A LOVELY AND COZY CAFÉ IN IPOH.
I’ve known about Memories Ipoh by Morel Restaurant for quite a while, and since I happened to be around Old Town, I finally decided to give it a try. I was truly impressed by how well they preserved the 100-year-old building — the staircase, the walls, and many original structures remain almost untouched. I really appreciate the effort and dedication the owner has put into maintaining the building’s heritage charm.
For food, we ordered two pizzas — the durian pizza and the Margherita pizza. I loved the dough texture; soft, fluffy, and pleasantly light. Taste-wise, both were well-balanced and not overly salty, just right for me. The spaghetti and truffle mushroom soup were on standard, with the soup being nicely fragrant. Bruschetta isn’t too salty which is good. The lemon tea was refreshing and not sweet, which I appreciated.
