Because time was limited that day, we didn’t go on a deep hike, just stopped briefly at a few viewpoints along the way. But precisely because of that, you can feel Zion’s charm even more— it’s not a park you just “see a few spots and leave,” but a place worth exploring slowly. 🌿 If you have enough time, it’s recommended to stay 1–2 more days: ✅ Take the park shuttle bus deep into the canyon ✅ Wade along the Virgin River at The Narrows ✅ Challenge the classic Angel’s Landing hike ✅ Experience the unique scenery of red rocks and streams deep in the canyon This time was just a quick pass-through, but it already felt amazing. Since I'm already here, how could I not check out Zion's other legend—The Narrows? This color contrast is absolutely insane! 💦 Temple of Sinawawa: Sneaking a peek at the entrance to the "Water World" (Pics 8-10): Hopping on the shuttle and getting off at the final stop, Temple of Sinawawa, I took a short stroll along the Riverside Walk and finally arrived at the starting point of the legendary The Narrows. Before my eyes, the Virgin River flowed gently through the steep, confined, thousand-foot slot canyon. Watching those hardcore hikers fully geared up and marching into the freezing river water, I couldn't help but sigh: without renting specialized waterproof and slip-resistant canyon boots, waders, and trekking poles, you can really only be a bystander on the shore. The most breathtaking views are always at the perilous peaks! After gritting my teeth and scrambling up the final stretch on my hands and knees, I finally summited Angels Landing! Standing atop this desolate giant rock at 5,790 feet, with the wind roaring in my ears, the view before me can only be described as a "miracle." The heart-pounding journey was absolutely worth it for this unforgettable God's-eye view: ⚪ The final white rock stairway to heaven (Pic 1-3) The closer you get to the summit, the more magical the landscape becomes. The golden-red sandstone gradually fades into vast expanses of pale, milky white. Sprinting up this near-vertical white rock ridge with nothing but the blazing sun and clear blue sky overhead—the feeling of getting closer to the heavens with every single step still makes my heart race! 🦖 Stepping into the ancient secret realm of Jurassic Park (Pic 4-5) Looking down toward the trailhead from the summit, the sheer depth of Zion Canyon is unbelievable. Towering, razor-sharp red rock cliffs rise abruptly on both sides, while the valley floor is covered in a dense forest. Sitting on the cliff's edge and taking it all in, it honestly looks like an ancient, untamed world straight out of "Jurassic Park" or "King Kong." I kept expecting a T-Rex or some giant beast to come crashing out of the trees down below at any moment! 🌊 The ultimate test for vertigo: Gazing at the Temple of Sinawawa (Pic 6-8) Turning to the other side, you'll see the magnificent canyon leading toward the Temple of Sinawawa in the distance, with the emerald Virgin River winding through a massive, thousand-foot-deep fissure. Dangling your feet over the edge of the sheer drop and staring into the endless abyss thousands of feet below, the intense, guardrail-free exposure is enough to make anyone afraid of heights weak in the knees! 🐉 The descent is the true hardcore challenge (Pic 9-10) After snapping enough epic photos at the top, it was time to head down. As the saying goes, "going up is easy, going down is hard." When you have to face that razor-thin "dragon's spine" head-on and look down at the plunging drop-offs on both sides as you descend, the psychological pressure is double what it was on the way up. Gripping the chains tightly, every step requires absolute focus and extreme caution. Peering down, the Virgin River a thousand feet below looked like a tiny, green thread. A bottomless drop right beneath my boots. My heart was pounding out of my chest—this is exactly what it feels like to have your soul absolutely floored by nature! ⛰️ Seeing Eye to Eye with Mount Majestic (Pic 5): Up at this altitude, the wildly massive Mount Majestic right across the way felt like I could just reach out and touch it. Standing before its colossal white walls, sculpted by millions of years of wind and weather, humans feel as tiny as a grain of sand—yet somehow insanely bold for trying to scale it. 🦖 The Grand Finale: Walking with God on the "Dragon's Back" (Pics 1, 6): Finally hit the most heart-stopping, jaw-dropping climax of the whole hike: "The Ridge"! The trail narrows down to a razor-thin spine of rock, flanked by thousand-foot sheer drop-offs on both sides. Watching hikers ahead gripping the chains for dear life and inching along the dragon's spine—the sheer visual impact of that infinite space is literally indescribable! 🚀 The Price of Elevation (Pic 7): Looking back down, it’s wild to see how high we actually climbed from the canyon floor. If you visit Zion National Park and don't challenge this "pilgrimage-level" trail, you've basically wasted your trip! Angels Landing—legend has it that it got its name because the terrain is so treacherous that "only an angel could land on it." Today, instead of hitting the gas, we use our feet and heartbeats to wrestle with this giant red beast: 🧱 The Majesty of the Red Beast (Pic 2): Looking up, the main peak of Angels Landing stands majestically against the blue sky like a massive red throne. Just standing at the foot of the mountain and gazing up, that intimidating presence is enough to get your adrenaline pumping. 🌀 Jurassic World and a Surprise from Santa Claus (Pics 3-5): Spiraling up along the seemingly endless Zig Zag trail, the red rock cliffs on both sides keep closing in. Just as I was panting heavily from the climb, I unexpectedly bumped into a hardcore traveler cosplaying as Santa Claus on the trail—so sweet and absolutely adorable! Passing through Refrigerator Canyon brings bursts of chilly wind, but looking back, the entire Zion valley looks exactly like the ancient secret realm of Jurassic Park, so breathtaking it makes you forget to breathe. 🍁 God's Palette (Pics 6-9): Continuing to scramble upward on all fours. Autumn is in full swing, and the sunlight makes the steep rock walls glow golden red, while red and yellow leaves intertwine in the valley. Every step shifts your perspective, offering nature's most unreserved visual feast. 🛑 Scout Lookout: The "Watershed" Before the Finish Line: Finally gritted my teeth and made it to the Scout Lookout viewpoint! Standing here and overlooking the winding canyon river, the view is simply unbeatable (Pic 1). Next up is the truly hardcore chain section where you literally grapple with the cliffs. Since my travel buddy has a severe fear of heights, he decided to stay behind and wait for me in this final safe zone to rest (Pic 10). I patted him on the shoulder: "You stay here, enjoy the breeze and the scenery. I'll conquer the upcoming cliffs for the both of us!" The real challenge is just beginning here. After powering through the darkness and greeting the first light of dawn, we finally arrived at Zion National Park! Here’s how this heart-pounding, hardcore road trip went down: 🌅 The Prelude to the Red Rocks Pilgrimage (Photos 2-4): At the break of dawn, we pulled into the park. The massive, iconic red rock cliffs towering on both sides gradually revealed themselves in the morning light. That deep earthy red instantly wiped away all the exhaustion from our all-nighter. 🐐 A Surprise Roadside Encounter (Photo 5): Talk about good luck! While driving, we unexpectedly spotted a wild desert bighorn sheep. It stood calmly on a high ledge, looking down at us like the guardian of this mysterious canyon. 🚗 Early Morning Canyon Traffic Jam (Photo 6): Even at the crack of dawn, a line of eager travelers had already formed. If you ask me which state in the U.S. is best for national park road trips? I would most likely vote for Utah. In just one state, there are 5 national parks with completely different styles. From red rock canyons and natural stone arches to alien-like landscapes, it almost packs all the classic scenery of the American West✨ After visiting all five of Utah’s national parks consecutively at the end of April this year, I can finally share my review👇 Of course, the ranking is very subjective and only reflects my personal experience🤣 🥇TOP 1|Zion National Park The undisputed number one! If there’s any national park I’d be willing to visit again and again, it’s definitely Zion. It’s not just about sightseeing here. 🧗 Challenge cliff trails 💦 Experience canyon creek hiking 🥾 Trek through red rock canyons 🌄 Chase a breathtaking canyon sunset The activities are so diverse it doesn’t feel like a traditional scenic national park at all. Whether it’s the classic Angel's Landing or the super popular The Narrows, both are experiences you won’t regret. Plus, Springdale is right at the entrance, making lodging, dining, and grocery shopping very convenient. With stunning views, rich experiences, and great facilities, it’s a triple threat that’s simply legendary🏆 🥈TOP 2|Bryce Canyon National Park The biggest surprise for me. The photos are already beautiful, but seeing it in person is truly breathtaking. The hills are covered with Hoodoo rock pillars that look like a natural sculpture garden filling the canyon. As the light changes, the colors shift between orange, pink, and gold🌅 The best way to enjoy it isn’t just standing on the viewpoint taking photos, but walking right into the canyon. When you wander among the stone pillar forest, the immersive feeling is truly irreplaceable. As a photography enthusiast, this is a place where your camera shutter won’t stop clicking📸 🥉TOP 3|Arches National Park A place that perfectly embodies the phrase “masterpiece of nature.” It has over 2,000 natural stone arches. Each formation is unique. From Balanced Rock to Delicate Arch, every spot has its iconic landmark. What’s more, nearby Moab adds extra points. There are many lodging options, great food, and various outdoor activities like off-roading, rafting, and biking. It’s a very complete experience stop🚙 4️⃣ TOP 4|Canyonlands National Park My biggest regret this trip. Due to limited time, we only explored the most popular Island in the Sky area. The view from the canyon edge is indeed stunning. But I feel like we only saw a small part of it. We didn’t get to explore The Needles or The Maze in depth. So it feels more like a “dark horse” candidate. The more you get to know it, the more you fall in love. Already on my list for a future revisit✅ 5️⃣ TOP 5|Capitol Reef National Park To be clear, it’s not that it’s not beautiful😂 It’s just that among Utah’s five national parks, the competition is really tough. It has beautiful canyons, rock layers, and orchard scenery. Stopping by for a visit during a road trip is very pleasant. But compared to Zion’s grandeur, Bryce’s uniqueness, and Arches’ recognizability, its memorable points are a bit weaker. Route 1: Canyon Overlook Trail This trail is located near the east entrance of the park and is one of the easiest ways to capture wide scenic views 📸 Most of my photos from P1 to P7 were taken here. The whole route is short and not difficult, very easy to walk. Highly recommend coming in the late afternoon 🌄 The sunset shining on the red rock walls turns the entire canyon a warm golden color, creating an amazing atmosphere. If you plan to visit Bryce Canyon National Park afterward, this route is conveniently on the way and can be arranged together. Route 2: Zion Canyon Main Scenic Area It’s recommended to park near the Visitor Center 🚌 After entering the park, take the Shuttle Bus to tour. During peak season, there are many visitors and parking is very tight, so try to arrive early. The main park route has 9 stops. If time is limited, there’s no need to get off at every stop; focusing on the latter half is enough ✅ 🔥 Angel's Landing (Stop 6) This is definitely Zion’s star trail. It’s also the goal for many visitors coming specifically to check in 🏔️ However, you need to apply for a lottery in advance, and only winners can enter the final climbing section. The latter half is a cliffside chain route, with the thrill level maxed out 😳 Reaching the summit and overlooking the entire Zion Canyon is truly breathtaking. 💦 The Narrows (Stop 9) One of Zion’s most iconic experiences. You hike upstream along the river valley, wading through water between the canyon walls 🌊 The towering rock walls on both sides surround you like natural city walls. It’s especially comfortable in summer. However, after actually walking it, I found that although the height was breathtaking and some sections required holding onto chains and using both hands and feet, the trail markings were very clear, and it actually had a more rhythmic feel than the rocky paths in Arches National Park. I especially loved the hiking atmosphere here. Because of the lottery system limiting the number of people, the trail wasn't crowded, and hikers were very polite to each other, giving way to one another when going up or down. Reaching the summit, watching the Virgin River meander below, all the fatigue and fear transformed into a profound sense of accomplishment. 🥪 Afternoon Serenity: Temple of Sinawava and The Narrows Entrance After descending, we returned to the visitor center for a simple homemade sandwich lunch. In the afternoon, we headed to the Temple of Sinawava, strolling along the Riverside Walk to the entrance to the famous Narrows canyon. Seeing many travelers fully equipped for the 8-hour all-wet canyon trek, although we only took photos at the entrance, the towering cliffs alone were enough to appreciate the wonders of nature. 🚗 A Minor Incident and a Warm Accommodation We were pleasantly surprised by our stay at the Econo Lodge Hurricane Zion Park Area, which not only included breakfast but also had an outdoor swimming pool for relaxation. Although a small mishap occurred—the front bumper accidentally snagged on a protrusion while parking and came off—we were both genuinely terrified! Thankfully, we insisted on "life insurance" when renting the car, which allowed us to calm down and continue our adventure with peace of mind. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the sheer scale of the park—massive red and orange cliffs rising thousands of feet above the Virgin River, bathed in the golden glow of the desert sun. Every turn in the road, every trail I hiked, felt like stepping deeper into a natural cathedral carved by time. Eager to experience Zion’s most iconic hike, I set out for Angels Landing, one of the most thrilling and breathtaking trails in the park. The hike began with a steady climb up Walter’s Wiggles, a series of steep switchbacks that quickly gained elevation. As I reached Scout Lookout, I took a moment to catch my breath and soak in the panoramic views of Zion Canyon stretching far below. The final section of the trail was both exhilarating and nerve-wracking—a narrow ridge with sheer drop-offs on both sides.
