Travel HongKong for Budget Travelers
If you're a budget traveler planning to visit Hong Kong, here are some helpful tips to save more money and make the most of your trip:
1. Transportation:
- Airport Express: If you're traveling in a group, don't use individual Octopus cards. Instead, visit the counter and purchase group tickets for 3-4 people, saving around 40-50 HKD per person.
- Bus fares: Keep in mind that bus fares in Hong Kong are calculated based on the full route, not the distance traveled. Consider alternative transportation if the two points are not too far apart.
2. Sightseeing:
- Prioritize online booking and look for discount codes: Booking attractions online in advance can save you both money and time. For example, when I visited the Peak Tram, purchasing tickets in advance on Trip saved me from waiting in line for 30-45 minutes and the tickets were also cheaper, around 100 HKD per ticket.
3. Don't miss HKGoodies: To stimulate tourism, Hong Kong offers vouchers worth around 100 HKD. Here's how to get them:
- Step 1: Create an account using your Non- Hongkong phone number.
- Step 2: At the airport, both gates A and B have HKGoodies counters. Show your passport and exchange it for a voucher with a QR code.
- Step 3: Scan the QR code, log in to your account, choose the service you want to redeem (I found popular restaurants and eateries already redeemed, so our group redeemed the Airport Express voucher instead).
- Step 4: Select the desired voucher, redeem it, check out, and enter your email address. The system will send the QR code to your email. Just board the train, and when you reach the Hong Kong station, scan the QR code to exit.
4. Drinking water: In 7-11 stores, large bottles of purified water in Hong Kong can be quite expensive. Visit Wellcome supermarkets instead, where you can find them for around 5 HKD.
Other #hongkong Tips for your trip:
5. Weather: When I visited, the heat was scorching, so remember to bring an umbrella and a hat for sun protection. If you have a handheld fan, bring it along too.
6. Sunset timing: The sunset in Hong Kong is relatively late, so check the daily forecast to plan your activities accordingly. Outdoor activities like taking the Star Ferry or visiting Terrace 428 are best enjoyed during the sunset for beautiful photos and to avoid extreme heat.
7. Beautiful MTR stations: Hong Kong's MTR stations are quite picturesque. If you're not sure what to do, take the MTR and have some fun taking photos in the stations.
By following these tips, you can have a memorable and budget-friendly trip to Hong Kong. Enjoy your travels and capture amazing moments!
