Still, feeling a pleasant sense of welcome, I readily joined the queue. 🥐 Recently, this bakery has become a famous spot worth queuing for after being featured on Japanese television multiple times. It was introduced several times as Kokura's representative bakery in the segments of 'Trip! Kitakyushu' and 'Mainichi Pan Hiyori' (Everyday Bread Hiyori), popular Fukuoka-based information programs. It appears it first gained word-of-mouth popularity on social media platforms like Instagram as a "visual hotspot." 🥐 Even at the store entrance, a #CreamCroissant poster was tempting passersby, as if proudly displaying this shop's signature menu. 🍞 Shiroya Bakery, a soul food of Kitakyushu with over 70 years of history, is a neighborhood bakery that was founded in 1950 and has been loved by local residents. 🚉 It is easy to find as it is located at the entrance where you turn into the arcade right in front of Kokura Station. For some time now, it had been difficult to buy bread here due to long lines, but luckily there was no line, so I excitedly purchased some nostalgic bread. 🍞 The most popular item at Shiroya Bakery is undoubtedly the Sunny Pan. The exterior is a French-style bread with a slightly chewy texture, but the inside is filled with sweet condensed milk, allowing you to experience the harmony of sweet and salty. There is also the Omelette, which boasts cute, bite-sized pieces. It is shaped like a fluffy sponge cake with soft fresh cream inside, folded in half, making it easy to eat in one bite. These days, they are sold in packs of five. There is also a Surfing Sandwich (サーフィンサンド), which consists of a Baumkuchen sandwiched between slices of bread; this is a menu item I haven't tried yet. Booked holidays after a busy time at work, so I invested in business class tickets to get some sleep during my Delhi/Tokyo flights, and booked JAL as it's my preferred company and they had direct flights✈️ Service was, as always with JAL, perfect. But I am pretty sad to say my inflight vegan meals were disappointing!😩 It was better on my way to Delhi: as pictured, I got the little menu card and a few words about the chef that curated it. But having flown economy with JAL on long-haul flights several times last year, I have the impression I got served a very similar meal in economy But all that matters is I had a good creative and original appetizer and dessert.🍰 The main dish was curry, it tasted fine but lacked a bit of originality as curry is, in Japan, the most common vegan options at restaurants.🍛 The disappointment happened on my way back: as pictured, I had a simple corn salad and tomato sauce penne which looked so cheap compared to the other meals served around me. Both the Jp or international cuisine option had a plate of 6 hors-d'oeuvres, and a nice original main dish. And the second big disappointment was that the snacks available were cheese and instant noodles that all contained animal products!😮💨 Back home in Tokyo I got really sick, but was so bummed out by this experience that I wrote to JAL customer service, to which they replied that they will share my precious feedback to improve future meals😅 So tell me, have you ever been disappointed by a luxury splurge? The address is at the end of the article, the map location has been added! During this trip to Takaoka, I accidentally discovered this MAKANA PIZZA located in Sakashita-cho. Just a few steps from Sakashitacho Station on the Manyo Line, the restaurant looks low-key, but it turns out to be a popular local Naples pizza shop, which features 500°C wood-fired kiln ready-to-bake pizza as its signature. I ordered the classic Margherita and a serving of spaghetti with tomato meat sauce for dinner this time. But Lunch will include appetizers, salad, soup and drink. The pizza smells strong firewood as soon as it is served. The bottom of the pizza belongs to the authentic Neapolitan style, the outside is fluffy and charred, and the middle is thin and elastic. The tomato sauce balances sweet and sour, fresh buffalo cheese with basil, simple ingredients, but instead more able to eat the taste of the ingredients themselves, is a more and more intriguing Pizza. For the pasta, the tomato sauce is boiled enough to be fragrant, the noodles maintain al dente mouthfeel, the meat sauce is not overly salty, the overall taste is more Italian family style, eat comfortably without feeling burdened. The restaurant is decorated in a minimalist industrial style, the environment is spacious, and there is enough distance between tables to make dining feel relaxed. Although the price is a little higher than the average chain Pizza shop, I think it's worth the money considering the instant firewood pizza, Lunch Set contents and the quality of the ingredients. If you want to eat a high-quality Italian meal in Takaoka in addition to seeing the ancient city, Kanayacho or taking the Manyo Line, this is quite worth putting in your itinerary. There is no need to make an appointment on weekday nights. You can enter directly. I don't know how the crowd is on holidays. If you are worried about the crowd, you can make an appointment. When ordering, you choose between the two bases, customize your soup (standard, tomato, or coconut) and spice level, and then you can add toppings. 🏙️Location: located in a quiet street in Shibuya, you would expect to pay a higher price. 🥦Quality & freshness: Even without adding extra toppings, the dish includes a large variety of extremely fresh vegetables and you can taste the quality. Unless you book a group table, seating is at the bar where you can watch the chefs fry the vegetables fresh for each order. 🍸Ambiance: The curries are served in individual, artisanal hotpots, which really elevates the experience. 🥢Overall The meal was absolutely worth the price! You should experience riding the bullet train at least once. It is fast, comfortable, safe, quiet, includes power outlets, and is incredibly punctual. Public transportation is one of the aspects of Japan that I am most proud of. There are so many train options available, making it much less stressful than flying, and it is far better for the environment. Since Japan is an archipelago, some routes do require flights, so I encourage you to take the train whenever possible. Before heading to Osaka, my sister booked a table online since the restaurant is reservation-only 👍🏻. There were six of us, so we ordered three portions of Sukiyaki and three of Shabu-shabu to share 😋. It was so delicious! 😋 The meal was exquisite, and both my sisters had a great time 😁. Opened over 10 years ago in Toyosu, near the team☆lab exhibition space, MIFA Football Park's concept is to be dedicated to communication, music and football but it's mainly known and used as a soccer practice space. It's in a very open space, rare for Japan! The last picture is the view from the field. The field can be used under bad weather. As pictured, there is a cafe with a small terrace space and a stage. They serve full meals and snacks, as well as protein shakes. You can rent everything you need: shoes and socks, full outfit, towels... There also is a kids play space, showers with a sauna, and a chiropractor.
