Recently, the exorbitant airfares to Sanya are really outrageous. I want to see the sea during the Spring Festival without the crowds. Fortunately, my cousin in Zhuhai recommended a small island that locals love to visit. 🏝 Zhuhai Gui Shan Island The number of visitors to the island is limited every day. It's not overdeveloped. The lighthouse sunset is absolutely beautiful. It's perfect for a two-day weekend getaway. —— 🏠 Accommodation You can choose between homestays or hotels. Most homestays are located halfway up the mountain with nice sea views, and both Liyuan/Banshan Shizhu look good on site. We stayed at Liyuan, with a double room for 568 during the Spring Festival, and a family room for 890, which is quite pricey. Additionally, there are hotels opposite the pier, which are very conveniently located. —— 🦞 Dining There are many seafood restaurants opposite the pier and along the coast, with famous stalls like Jiang Xing, and sea view ones like Xian Ye, etc. We ate at Jiang Xing, the taste was okay, and the price seems to be uniform across the island, with prawns at 98 yuan per half kilo, and stir-fries ranging from 35 to 60 yuan each. The more picturesque restaurants by the sea charge the same. —— 🏕 Attractions The island is quite small, and you can tour around it for 30 yuan. Here are some recommended spots: Yiwan Beach No.1 Breakwater Gui Shan Lighthouse Park Gui Shan Warship Memorial Park Wen Tianxiang Square The coastal walkway from the lighthouse to the Gui Shan Warship Memorial Park is also beautiful, great for a stroll. The area around the lighthouse is particularly photogenic, especially for watching the sunset, so plan to spend more time there. —— 🚢 Transportation 1 Ferry Buy tickets from the official account 'Xiangzhou Port' or at the Xiangzhou Port pier on site. Adult standard cabin is 100 yuan, first class is 130 yuan, and there are two VIP rooms available for an additional 400 yuan upgrade, which allows access to the deck for the view. 2 Community Vehicle After arriving on the island, there are community vehicles available, 30 yuan for the west circuit and 60 yuan for the east. You can add the driver's WeChat and he'll come whenever you call; we paid 30 yuan per trip for our group. Additionally, there are tandem bicycles for rent at 60 yuan per hour. —— 📝 Notes 1 The food options on the island are limited and pricey, seafood is worth a try, but tea and coffee are just average. 2 Fireworks are not allowed on the boat, we wanted to set off fireworks by the sea, but they were confiscated during the security check. 3 The ferry ride takes 50 minutes, and it can be quite shaky when it's windy, so it's a good idea to use motion sickness patches in advance. 4 The island is small, and the last boat leaves after 9 pm, so it's possible for people from nearby areas to make a day trip.
