Built in the fifth year of Jingyou's reign (1038) in the Northern Song Dynasty, it is the tallest stone scripture building in China. The Zhaozhou Dharani Sutra Building faces south and is composed of a base, a building body and a jewel on the top of the building. It is an eight-sided multi-layered structure with seven levels in total. Each section is carved and built with a single huge stone. The building is 16.44 meters high. There is an octagonal canopy or eaves between each section of the building body. The entire stone building is composed of various reliefs, and the upper short columns are all carved.
