Cishi Pagoda on Dongting South Road

The Cishi Pagoda is located on the west side of Baota Lane, Dongting South Road, Yueyang Tower District, Yueyang City, Hunan Province. The existing pagoda was rebuilt during the Chunyou years of the Song Dynasty (1241~1252). The height of the Cishi Pagoda is 34.58 meters, covering an area of 46 square meters. It is a seven-level octagonal solid, a pavilion-style brick pagoda with a wooden structure. Except for the base, which is paved with thick and solid granite, the rest are all built with green bricks, and the binder used is yellow sand mud. The bottom layer of the pagoda body is higher, and it becomes lower as it goes up, and the width of the face is reduced layer by layer, forming a soft dividing line. The method of stacking and astringency is used between the layers of eaves. Green tiles are attached to the protruding green bricks, and then lotus patterns are piled up with mortar, and the lines are round and beautiful. The Cishi Pagoda is beautifully built, tall and straight, and is one of the earliest existing brick pagodas in Hunan. It plays an important role in the study of ancient Buddhist pagoda architecture. On March 5, 2013, the Cishi Pagoda was announced by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as the seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
