Dongpo Academy

This is the place where Su Dongpo bought land and built rooms, located at No. 174 Dongpo Road, Yixing City, Wuxi City. It is where he taught and lived. Mr. Su Shi once regarded this place as his second hometown, and it is a key cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province. Dongpo Academy, also known as 'Dongpo Ancestral Hall' or 'Shushan Academy', was founded in the Northern Song Dynasty and has a history of more than 850 years. In September of the seventh year of Yuanfeng in the Northern Song Dynasty (1084), Su Dongpo arrived in Yixing. He had a fond attachment to the landscapes of Yangxian and wished to 'buy a garden, plant 300 citrus trees, and spend his later years there'. To commemorate him, later generations built the Dongpo Academy at the place where he taught.
