South Melbourne Market - a Vibrant Place
#visitmelbourne #melbourne #australia #urbanexplorer
So you’ve visited Queen Victoria Market, but have you checked out South Melbourne Market?
I personally love the vibes and variety of foods and stuffs sold here. The fresh produce is not as cheap as in QVM but the whole atmosphere makes up for it. I enjoyed walking around the market more than I so at QVM. They also have a nice touch on each entrance: adding “welcome” in several different languages! They sure are going to make everyone feels welcomed!
Address - 322-326 Coventry St, South Melbourne, Australia
Tram 96 stops right beside the market, stop at South Melbourne station.

Popular & Artisanal cafe in south melbourne
#afternoontea conveniently located opposite south melbourne market! Great for taking an afternoon break after you've done your shopping 😁🤩
📍321 Conventry St, South Melbourne, VIC 3205
A more contemporary and sleek looking cafe, code black coffee has a few different outlets around Melbourne but the one we visited was at South Melbourne (right opposite South Melbourne market, convenient for shopping once you're done eating 😉) The food here is delicious of course! But to me personally, the portions are too big! It's difficult to finish your plate + the flavours are more strong, as mentioned very artisanal.

Affordable & Modern studio in south melbourne
Address - 51 Palmerston Cres, South Melbourne VIC 3205
Ambiance/Facilities - studio with microwave & fridge
Highlights - Spacious room & affordable price
Avg. Price per Person - $100/night
Rating : 4/5
Booked this place for my Melbourne trip and it was not too bad. I wanted to stay somewhere outside of the CBD and this place was pretty affordable. The entrance way is a bit shady but the room itself was really nice. The studio was pretty big with a dining table & chair + a microwave and fridge. The bed is surprisingly really comfy and I loved it so much! There’s not much facilities but overall I think its a pretty good location as its about a 10 mins walk to park street tram station, a walking distance to a few cafes and albert park.
Must try melbourne gourmet Sandwiches 🥪😍
Address - 253 Coventry St, South Melbourne VIC 3205
Ambiance/Facilities - Sleek and modern, Indoor & outdoor seatings
Highlights - Delicious wide range of toasties
Avg. Price per Person - $15
Rating - 5/5
This was my first time visiting Hectors Deli & I would 10/10 recommend everyone who's in melbourne to pop by and grab a delicious toasties.
We ordered the beef & pickles (+ cheese & hectic sauce) AND IT WAS PERFECT — The balance of the tangyness and the savoury bits of beef and cheese was out of this world 🌎 It does get really messy so if you prefer something more tame but just as good we also tried the mushroom and cheese. it was juicy and cheesy which is everything you want in a delicious toastie.
Definitely gonna make a visit again if im in melbourne, they have a few outlets like another in richmond too (flagship store)
KOMEYUI Japanese Restaurant - Melbourne
Address - 181 Ferrars St, South Melbourne VIC 3205, Australia
Ambiance/Facilities - Fine Dining Japanese Restaurant
Highlights - Super delicious and fresh nigiri sushi, roll and tempura
Additional comments - Visited this restaurant at their old place and it was very amazing. I came with 2 other friends and all the food we ordered are as displayed on the pics. Those dishes alone however is enough to make 3 fully grown adults full for that day. The roll was very delicious and all ingredients used were fresh. The prawn tempura is very crispy and very delicious as well. The highlight of the day has to go to the nigiri sushi. We ordered the salmon, otoro, chutoro and beef. All of the pieces are made from fresh cuts and you know it’s fresh from the taste alone. They have since moved to a new place at the address above but the taste hasn’t changed at all. Definitely one of the best places for a Japanese Fine Dining in Melbourne
Avg. Price per Person - AU$ 50 - 100 (depending on what you order) (there are also set menus with different pricing)
Rating - 5/5

Lovely hangout
I went with a few friends to try out the St. Ali cafe in south of melbourne. A lot of people had recommended it to me. At some point I avoided thinking it would be pricey or simply a hype. But turns out it's quite good. The food was better than expected.
And most importantly what I loved the most was their flat white. A staple in melbourne, some places served me what I felt was kind of mild. But the cup I had here hit the spot. The food was decently priced. The thing with coffee expericnes is you've got to pick the right item on the menu. A friend had ordered mullet coffee which had a strawberry like after taste. Clearly not the cafe's fault if that didn't taste amusing.

Best market in Melbourne
South Melbourne market is my favourite market in Melbourne, there are so many things to see, explore and eat here. Many people may heard of Queen Victoria market but I think this is more enjoyable to explore, it has lots of pastries, coffee, fresh fruits, vegetables and souvenirs! There are nice restaurants and cafe around here as well, we had lobsters and margaritas at one of the Mexican food around the corner. The lobster is fresh and I absolutely love the Margarita, price are pretty reasonable as well.
My favourite cafe in the market is Padre, even though I love the coffee here, but you should try their hot chocolate with s’more!! It’s so chocolatey and yummy, especially on a cool weather. My favourite pastry here is the Agatha, you will know why once you try it. That stall is easy to spot because it always has the longest queue, and trust me, it’s with queuing for the freshly baked pastries! They have a giant chocolate crossiant if you’re a crossiant lover, it’s so crispy on the outside and you literally can feel the layers of the crossiant, night recommend this stall.
They do sell fresh seafood like sashimi and oysters, you can just order it and have it on the spot. There are a few different stalls but I think all are fresh and nice. Enjoy your market experience!
A Seafood Feast at South Melbourne Market
The South Melbourne Market is a haven for seafood enthusiasts, boasting a fantastic range of fresh, high-quality seafood at surprisingly affordable prices.
From Sea Urchins at only $15 to scallops at $25 per dozen, the market presents an array of seafood delights at prices that are hard to beat. The jumbo oysters, priced at just $30, are a real treat. Fresh and succulent, they offer a taste of the ocean like no other.
But the real surprise is the sashimi provided by various shops within the seafood market itself. Each shop brings its unique touch to this delicacy, offering sashimi for just $20. This is an excellent opportunity to explore different styles and preparations of sashimi, each bursting with fresh, oceanic flavors.
Adding to the seafood extravaganza is the market's selection of lobsters, crabs, and jumbo shrimp, each promising a delicious and memorable experience. And what better way to complement your seafood feast than with an assortment of craft beers? Available from different shops, these beers range in flavor and style, providing the perfect pairing for your meal.
An added bonus is the abundance of free seating around aisle D, a welcome convenience that allows you to enjoy your meal without the hassle of struggling for a seat in crowded areas just right in front of the shops. This relaxed atmosphere makes the dining experience even more enjoyable.

Great market with various food options

Just like Victoria Market in Melbourne, you will get everything that includes grocery here in South Melbourne. The prices are generally more expensive than Victoria Market
But still this market is very popular on a Saturday and has a great variety of stalls. I love that there are heaps of places both inside and surrounding the market that you can enjoy a meal, coffee and pastries. They also have lots of fresh produce including fruit, vegetables, deli, poultry and seafood. You can also look at their gift stalls that sell clothing, jewellery, candles, books etc.
Do keep in mind that parking in South Melbourne is tricky especially if you don’t get there early in the morning and you usually have to pay especially if you stay more than 1-2 hours.
Indulge in Exquisite Pastries!
