History&Stories on Shanghai’s Yuyuan Rd

Hidden on Yuyuan Road is a pop-up venue with no staff members and nothing for sale. Looks can be deceiving. It’s not your clothing boutique, instead, it’s a small storefront filled with stories depicted through pictures and text. As time passes, old stories on display at this city museum get swapped out for new ones. Nestled at the entrance of a traditional lane residential compound, the tiny venue’s atmosphere feels a bit retro. At it’s opening, stories about what live used to be like on Yuyuan Road filled the walls and hung from the ceiling. Passersby have a chance to contribute their own stories to the current theme as well. Stationery tools, pens, and paper are at their disposal, while tables and chairs provide an open space for writing. Reading the stories and secrets of local residents give the street a new meaning and an added layer of depth. Most of the writings on display are written in Chinese, but some stories in foreign languages can be found too. Be sure to drop by if you’re in the area.
