MOSES SUTTON

Bao Shan Temple

Bao Shan Temple in Shanghai was first built in the sixth year of Ming Zhengde (1511), rebuilt in the 27th year of Qing Qianlong (1736), and has been rebuilt and abandoned many times since then. In 2005, Bao Shan Temple was relocated and rebuilt, and the main body was completed at the end of 2010. The newly built Bao Shan Temple is in the style of Tang Dynasty architecture, with a layout similar to that of Chi Lin Nunnery in Hong Kong, both using traditional central axis layout. After entering the mountain gate, the first hall is the Heavenly King Hall, with a bell tower and drum tower on the left and right; the second hall is the Great Hall of the Buddha, with Guanyin Hall and Medicine Buddha Hall on the left and right; the third hall is the Sutra Library, and there are also side rooms and small Buddha halls on both sides. As of March 2023, Bao Shan Temple covers an area of 17.3 acres and has won the Luban Award, the highest award for engineering quality in China's construction industry. It costs 10 yuan to enter the temple, and there is a vegetarian meal in the temple, which costs 15 yuan per serving. It takes about an hour to visit, which is very distinctive. There is a parking lot, which charges 15 yuan.
