It is the oldest European colonial settlement in the Americas. Undoubtedly, the old town, composed of 10 blocks, is a treasure of history and architecture. Narrow cobblestone streets are lined with Spanish-style colonial buildings. The old town has been in existence for over five hundred years, hence Santo Domingo is known as the 'First City of America (Ciudad Primada de América)'.
