Chapel of Our Lady of Penha

#tripblazers #mytripvlog #2023travelwish #campingglamping #celebratewithtrip. The first chapel was founded in 1622 by the crew and passengers of a ship which had narrowly escaped capture by the Dutch. The chapel served as a point of pilgrimage for sailors embarking on a hazardous voyage. Literature records that the first Augustinian mission arrived in Macau in November 1586. The Jesuits were not the only ones to spread their word through Asia, so did the Franciscans, Dominicans, and the Augustinians. Even though the Jesuits were the order to best settle in the territory, there are still some traces of the Augustinian presence, in books and around the city. The Chapel of Our Lady of Penha, located in Penha Hill, is a rich example of this cultural heritage, since it portrays a distinct architecture compared to other local churches. Today the Chapel of Our Lady of Penha is a popular and beautiful spot for wedding photography. It’s very much worth the walk up the hill as it offers spectacular views of Macau, including the Macau Tower, Sai Van Lake and the bridges.
