The pinnacle of Chinese grotto art

🗿 This is not my first visit to the Longmen Grottoes, but I am still overwhelmed by its grandeur. This grotto, which began in the Northern Wei Dynasty and was mainly excavated during the prosperous Tang Dynasty, represents the maturation of grotto art after its introduction into the Central Plains. Coupled with the strong national power and open culture of the Tang Dynasty, it created the pinnacle of Chinese grotto history. 🗿 The combination of the Lushena Buddha, which is modeled after the image of Empress Wu Zetian, with bodhisattvas, vajras, and disciples, is the pearl on top of this peak. The grandeur of the Tang Dynasty is palpable, with an air of elegance, confidence, and majesty. China is fortunate to have the Tang Dynasty and the Longmen Grottoes.
