A short getaway to the ‘dumb-bell’ island.

Cheng Chau Island has the nickname ‘Dumb bell’ due to its shape. This Island is perhaps the most colorful and happening among other outlying Islands in Hong Kong. To reach the Island, you can take the ferry from Central (Pier No.5). It has a good frequency. Keep in mind that the fast ferry takes around 35 minutes to reach Cheung Chau, whereas the ordinary ferry can take up to 60 minutes. Once you arrive, you can explore the island on foot or by bicycle. You can find bicycle rentals around the pier, costing around HKD.50 a day. But if you want to hike up and see the beauty of the island from above, then you do not need a bicycle. There is a hiking trail on this Island where you can explore the beauty of the upper part of this Island. Apart from hiking, you can also enjoy the beaches. There are two beaches nearby the ferry pier, Cheng Chau Tung Wan Beach and Kwun Yam beach, located next to the first one. Eating seafood and delicious local snacks is a must on this island. The island is famous for its mochi (especially the mango mochi), frozen watermelon slices, and fishballs. Just stop by numerous vendors and try whatever tickles your fancy. I was on the Island the whole day, hiking up a bit, strolling through the beach, enjoying seafood and local mango ice cream, and the worth part was enjoying the sunset. I love it a lot! #island #getaway
