A Day at the Chongqing Memory Museum

Ciqikou Main Street is bustling and noisy on both sides of the street. However, the back street of Ciqikou on the top of Ma'anshan is a different kind of sanctuary. Passing through the streets and climbing up the steps, the Chongqing Memory Museum gradually comes into view. Inside the museum, there are exquisitely unique miniatures of stilted buildings and artist teahouses. The Shuchang teahouse was the best place to enjoy folk art in the past. The museum staff, pointing to the artist teahouse on display, explains that the old theaters and stages all evolved from the Shuchang teahouses. According to research, during the Anti-Japanese War period, there were more than 100 teahouses in the ancient town of Ciqikou. There were many varieties of operas performed in the teahouses, including Sichuan opera sitting singing, Sichuan tune Qingyin, and Sichuan bamboo qin. Ciqikou is famous for its porcelain making, and the Jiang family was the founding pioneer of the Shaping kiln porcelain. The Jiang family bowl factory on Qingcaopo has been passed down from generation to generation since the Kangxi period, continuing for eight generations. The museum displays old photos of porcelain making, allowing visitors to feel the long history of porcelain making in this family.
