The Grand Mosque of Casablanca 🇲🇦

#dreamvoyage The Hassan II Mosque, located in Casablanca, Morocco, stands as a magnificent testament to Islamic architecture and Moroccan culture. Completed in 1993, it is the largest functioning mosque in Africa and ranks as the 14th largest in the world. The mosque’s quadrangular, green-tiled minaret soars to an impressive 200 meters (656 feet), making it the world’s second tallest minaret. Designed by Michel Pinseau under the guidance of King Hassan II, the mosque harmoniously blends Andalusian and Moorish styles. Its 60-story minaret is crowned with a laser that points toward Mecca. The mosque’s location on a promontory overlooking the Atlantic Ocean allows worshippers to pray with a view of the sea, although there is no glass floor for direct observation. The mosque’s hand-crafted marble walls and retractable roof add to its grandeur. It can accommodate up to 105,000 worshippers: 25,000 inside the mosque hall and an additional 80,000 on the outside grounds. The complex also includes a madrasa (Islamic school), hammams (bathhouses), a Moroccan history museum, conference halls, and an extensive library, considered one of the most comprehensive in the Islamic world.
