Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque is named after the Sultan (King) Omar Ali Saifuddin, and was completed in 1958 to commemorate the great achievements of the monarch during his 17-year reign. The mosque is stately and magnificent, with a white main building and a golden main dome that is 52 meters high and gilded. The architectural style of the mosque combines the elegance of the Renaissance with the characteristics of Italian architecture, and was designed by Italian architect Rudolfo Nolli based on the original drawings of Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin III. It is said that many of the materials used in the construction and interior decoration came from all over the world. The mosque is surrounded by a lake, with a stone boat modeled after an ancient Brunei boat floating in the water, creating a beautiful picture that symbolizes the history and culture of Brunei.
