🚶‍♂️ Strolling at the foot of Mount Aso | Kumamoto [Miyaji Stroll]

Escaping the hustle and bustle of tourism and slowing down in Miyaji is one of my favorite moments in Kumamoto. This is the town in front of Aso Shrine; the streets are short, but they retain the feel of old houses, wagashi (Japanese sweets) shops, and local restaurants. Walking along the streets, you can smell the air mixed with the scent of wooden houses and a faint hint of sulfur—very "Aso." Strolling along the streets, you can see the ridgelines of the Aso Five Peaks overhead, understated yet undeniably present. Occasionally, you'll encounter locals riding bicycles and greeting you; that unpretentious everyday life is the most captivating.
