📍Aso Shrine 🏷️ 3083-1 Miyaji, Ichinomiya-cho, Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture, 869-2612 This is an ancient shrine with a history of over 2,000 years. It is the head shrine of the approximately 500 "Aso Shrines" across the country, and six buildings, including the shrine and tower gate, are designated as important national cultural properties. The tower gate in particular is the largest in Kyushu, and is counted among the "Three Great Tower Gates of Japan." It was severely damaged in the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake, but all restoration work, which has been underway for eight years, was completed in December 2024.
