Chatsworth House, located on the banks of the River Derwent in the Peak District, spans over 30,000 acres and has been the ancestral home of the Cavendish family for nearly 500 years, featuring a Baroque main building paired with centuries-old gardens. This estate is a filming location for many British TV shows and movies. Most famously, it served as Pemberley in the 2005 film adaptation of Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice," and it is now commonly referred to as Darcy's Estate. The estate has been a place full of stories since its inception. · 1549: Bess of Hardwick and her husband purchased the land and began building the original Tudor house. She was the founder of Chatsworth House and, during the era of Elizabeth I, the woman with the second-largest fortune in England after the Queen herself. She married four times and, through her own intelligence and ambition, rose from a country girl to leave behind two enduring estates. Mary, Queen of Scots, was once held under house arrest here. · 1687–1707: The 1st Duke of Devonshire (a key figure in the Glorious Revolution) joined others in inviting William III to take the English throne and promoted the Bill of Rights. After the revolution succeeded, he was created a Duke in 1694 and rebuilt the current Baroque main building. · 19th century: The 6th Duke of Devonshire expanded the North Wing, added the Sculpture Gallery, and renovated the gardens, creating the layout seen today. · In the "Pride and Prejudice" film: Elizabeth rides in a carriage around the valley and catches her first glimpse of the magnificent Pemberley. · Main staircase: The iconic scene where Elizabeth walks into the mansion alone, turns around, and looks up in awe. · Sculpture Gallery: The place where Elizabeth stops to admire the "Veiled Vestal" statue, and where the housekeeper speaks at length, praising Mr. Darcy. 📌 Interestingly: Two films starring British actress Keira Knightley were filmed here. In "Pride and Prejudice," she is the visitor Elizabeth, marveling at the beauty of the estate. Three years later, she returned to star in "The Duchess," based on the true story of the estate's mistress, Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire, portraying a life trapped within the magnificent estate. The main building of the estate also features the King's Apartments, designed to welcome the King, as well as a Chinese-style study and a grand banquet hall for guests. The estate's gardens are also very distinctive, and you can see many familiar scenes from British-style films.

Matlock Bath is right bang in the heart the picturesque Derbyshire Dales. Fun fact is that due to the unique inland resort style feel, it is often called "Little Switzerland." It was specifically developed to be one of the UK’s first true tourist destinations as far back as the late 17th century. Matlock Bath lines a limestone gorge carved out by the River Derwent and it blends natural beauty with a quirky, classic British seaside atmosphere…..even if it is miles from the coast. Things to do in Matlock Bath: · Heights of Abraham · Masson Cavern · Great Rutland cavern · Aquarium and arcade · Mining museum · Derwent gardens If you are visiting in September or October then you will be lucky enough to see the Matlock Bath Illuminations - unfortunately I went at the wrong time of the year.

#bucketlistdestinations My experience at Stanton Moor was unlike a typical sightseeing trip. I walked through the quiet woodland before reaching the open moor, where ancient stones stood among the rugged landscape. The scenery felt peaceful but also mysterious, and I found myself wondering about the people who created and visited these monuments long ago. I explored different paths around the moor and stopped at several viewpoints to photograph the countryside. The combination of history, nature, and wide-open scenery made the experience especially memorable. I loved that it wasn't simply about seeing one landmark—it was about walking through an entire landscape with stories hidden everywhere. Stanton Moor is definitely worth adding to #bucketlistdestinations.

#bucketlistdestinations Visiting Stanton Moor in Derbyshire felt like stepping into a landscape filled with mystery and history. I followed the woodland and moorland paths until I reached the ancient stone formations, surrounded by rolling hills and open countryside. The atmosphere was incredibly peaceful, especially when the wind moved across the moor and there was hardly anyone around. I spent time exploring the trails, photographing the stones, and taking in the views across the surrounding Peak District landscape. There was something fascinating about standing beside structures that have been part of this landscape for thousands of years. Stanton Moor gave me a completely different kind of travel experience and easily earned a place on my #bucketlistdestinations list.

📍 Keswick → Derwentwater → Chinese Bridge → Grange Starting at the Keswick Launch 🚤, we walked along the lakeshore towards Borrowdale, passing Friar’s Crag, woodland, Calfclose Bay and the beautiful views across Derwentwater. 🏔️🌿 As you continue south, you reach Lodore Falls and then the path leads to the River Derwent, where you cross the famous Chinese Bridge 🌉. It gets its local name from its shallow arch and is one of the most recognisable little bridges on the Derwentwater Walk. After crossing, continue along the lakeside path and through woodland towards Grange in Borrowdale. 🌲 The scenery becomes increasingly dramatic as you approach the Borrowdale Valley. In Grange, you can cross the 1675 double arched Grange Bridge, with the river running underneath. 🌉 The village also has the Holy Trinity Church, dating from 1861, and a café ☕ where you can stop for a well deserved break. 🚌 Don’t want to walk back? The 77/77A Honister Rambler is a seasonal option, while the 78 also connects Keswick with Grange and Borrowdale. 🚌 ⭐ It’s a beautiful way to leave Keswick behind and gradually move into Borrowdale, with the lake, woodland, bridges and mountains all along the way. Gorgeous little place not far to travel if you live in sheffield

It was so easy to get here via train! The hike is so beautiful with a really cool trail and views and plenty of places to perch on so you can eat your snacks :p

Very busy

Because of the alumni club, I went back to my alma mater for a small gathering. Oh! No need to find a restaurant to eat! Because it has become St Elphin's Park and a restaurant open to the public called The Orangery. Ten years ago, it had actually switched to a hotel, but despite the epidemic to put the property up, the Audley Group finally took over the operation of the health care center. The whole feeling is very special, despite remembering that the dormitory used to be dilapidated, but now it has been renovated to the extreme. Although the food at school used to be so bad, it's OK now. Thanks to the hard work of old students and restaurants in the area, I cherish every gathering even more after the pandemic. Many boarding memories flooded up....... The principal was fined standing outside, the students on duty had to clean the stairs in the lobby, dived into the kitchen in the middle of the night to search for food and so on. Let’s talk about the famous British dish – Roast beef with Yorkshire pudding. The roast beef needs no description, in addition the Yorkshire pudding is actually a piece of butter pie crust that creates a small bowl of shape, the taste is probably Danish full on and off, not sweet. I like to use it to fill barbecue sauce, and finally ate it. The restaurant's dishes are playing normally, up to the standard of a three-star hotel. Maybe British cuisine has been lagging behind elsewhere, however the place is beautiful and there is a large garden to take pictures.
