Before my flight to Athens, I visited the recently renovated #aegeanairlines Business Lounge at Larnaca Airport (LCA). Its location is next to Gate 48 (at the end of the main aisle) and it can be used by First or Business class passengers in #staralliance as well as #staralliance gold passengers. The lounge is luxurious with modern internal decoration but its size is relatively small. There are dining tables at the area next to the foods and drinks and also very comfortable arm chairs were you can chill out. There were two different choices for hot food: chicken souvlaki and seftalia (i.e., traditional Cypriot meatball) along with a selection of cold sandwiches, and salads, all influenced by the Greek – Cypriot traditional cuisine. On the top of that, the lounge offers complementary refreshments, an updated self service bar, a few choices of desserts and a self service espresso machine. When I entered the lounge was quiet enough with 2-3 other people, but as the time of my Aegean Airlines flight was approaching, the place became crowded enough. 📍Location: Next to Gate 48 🗓️ Tip 1: For some reason, Aegean Airlines starts check in, two hours before the flight instead of three or even four hours that other air companies do, and as a result if you have baggage for drop off, the time you can spend in lounge is not too much. 🗓️ Tip 2: Because Aegean Airlines Lounge at Larnaca Airport serves all the Star Alliance passengers who have the right to make use of it, the lounge can be crowded some times during the day (if there are two or more Star Alliance flights closely one to each other), due to its small size. #aegeanairlines #staralliance

Beautiful beaches, colourful skies, good food, not crowded and most importantly the locals here is friendly. I have travelled to few other places and I personally rated Larnaca as my top 5 place I would revisit. I only got to spend one night there and I regretted cause I should’ve stayed for at least 3-4 night there. I reached there in the afternoon, and it’s bit warm even in December but its bit chilly after 7pm. I walked around the neighbourhood area and yes its safe for solo female travellers. Sunset view in Larnaca is majestic and you can see plane landing from Mackenzie or Finikoudes beach- almost beat Oia, Santorini sunset in my opinion. For cat lover, Larnaca is a cat haven. You can see cats roaming around the island and it’s cute. You may bring some treats with you cause some of the cats is quite approachable and friendly. #hiddengem #larnaca #cyprus

Three places you shoud visit at the time you spend in the city. First, Kition .This underground temple complex is the remains of the biblical city of Kition, which was settled in 1300BC. Part of the ancient Cyclopean wall and the temple of Astarte still exist. The second place is the Church of Agios Lazarus, In this beautiful little 9th century church lies the tomb of St Lazarus. This is one of the most important Orthodox pilgrimage sites. The Cedar Valley is 5 km south on the Troodos–Pano Platres road, where Cedrus brevifolia (Cyprus cedar) mixes with Pinus brutia and Sphagnum pads the spring seep by the old British-colonial forestry huts. I rented a car in Larnaca (€35/day, card), drove to the Platres trailhead (1 hr), started at 7:30 a.m. in March. The trail is well-marked red-dots; the waterfall is 15 m, water 10°C. The mossy half is the last 500 m before the falls where the trail enters a Laurus nobilis (bay laurel) grove and Hypnum and Thuidium carpet the rocks. The cedar valley is a separate stop — drive 10 min south, park at the Cedar Valley picnic site, walk the 1 km loop: Sphagnum on the cedar-root flare, Metzgeria on the bark. Mistake: I drove in February — snow on the Troodos road, chained tires needed, rental insurance didn't cover chains, parked at Psilo Dentro and walked 4 km extra each way. March–May or Oct–Nov. Second mistake: I swam in the plunge pool — park sign: "no swimming, protected habitat, €200 fine", a warden saw, €100 on the spot, paid cash. Third: I paid €10 for a "Troodos map" in Platres — the trail is red-dotted, the map was a road atlas, useless. Buy in Pano Platres: a €4 souvla sandwich, not the €18 hotel. Gear: 2 L water, €20 boots, €15 fleece — 1,200 m, 7°C. Local rule: trail free, cedar valley free, no drone near the waterfall (Natura 2000), stay on the red-dot path, the mossy cedar root is not a seat. The moss on the cedar root is the Troodos mist's catch — step on cut timber. Opinion: Caledonia + Cedar Valley is the €0 hike that beats any Paphos beach day, and the mossy laurel grove before the falls is the 20-min half with zero coach-tour crowd. Should the Forestry Department add a €2 honour box at the cedar loop for boardwalk, or keep it free? I'd add it. Would you drive 1 hr into the Troodos for a mossy cedar waterfall walk?

Second mistake: I swam in the pool — a Cypriot hiker: "that's Platres' drinking source, 200 € fine, and it's 9°C, you'll cramp". Third: I picked a cedar cone — forest ranger: "Cedrus brevifolia is near-endemic, 150 € fine, leave it". Buy in Platres: a 5 € souvlaki, not the 20 € mountain hotel. Gear: 1.5 L water, 40 € shell, 25 € fleece — Troodos nights 5°C. Local rule: no fee, no drones in the forest park, stay on the 3 km trail, the pool is a water source not a swim. The moss on the cedar flare is the stream's catch — step on cut timber. Opinion: Caledonia is the best 3 km waterfall walk in Cyprus and the mossy cedar stream is the 30-min half people rush to reach the falls.
