Evora is an amazing place to visit! It is just ninety minutes driving east from Lisbon, so it is perfect for a two day getaway. The old town or center of Evora was declared an UNESCO Heritage site in 1986 and it is such a beautiful place. There are many things to see and experience in this historic Portuguese town but here follows the top five places to see. 1. Chapel of bones. The inside of this church had the bones of five thousand different humans. It is strange but also conveys the sense of humans being impermanence and ultimate demise. Good for a dose of reality! 2. Templo de Diana or Roman Temple. Great to see how far the ancient Empire spread. 3. Agua da Prata or The Silver Water Aquaduct. It surrounds the city and stands high abovebthe ground in some places. 4. Palacio Dom Manuel. A well manicured garden surrounds the palace and it is well taken care of and a nice place to sit outside and relax. 5. Cathedral of Evora. This is probably the most impressive site in the town. The entrance fee is five euros and the whole site is more than just the church. It takes about two hours to see everything. The view from the roof is amazing and should not be missed! After a full day of sight seeing I recommend stopping at the Praça do Giraldo (the huge main plaza) in the late afternoon. The area is full of bars, cafes and pastelerias to satisfy everyone. But the real hidden gem for a football traveller is the small exit kiosk/snack stand near the Žaliakalnis gate (Laisvės al. side), which keeps a battered but functional TV tuned to Lithuanian sports channel LRT PLIUSor TV3 Sportand a fridge stocked with local gira(kvass—a mildly fermented rye bread drink, sweet‑savoury and eerily refreshing on a warm Baltic summer day). I did exactly this after a slow wander through the peony beds: bought a tall plastic cup of cold kvass (€1.20), leaned against the wooden rail, and caught the second half of a group‑stage replay and live score ticker for the evening's upcoming Portugal match. It's not a full‑match big‑screen experience—more a pause‑and‑peek spot—but if you time it right and ask the attendant ("Ar rodo futbolą?"— Do you show football?), they'll often flip to live coverage for key fixtures. The garden is a 20‑minute walk or 8‑minute bus (#23 or #35) from Kaunas Railway Station; entry is ~€3–€4, free after 18:00 on some days in summer. I recommend this micro‑experience because it layers Baltic everyday life—students on benches revising, pensioners inspecting tulips—over your World Cup day. You're not in a neon sports bar; you're sipping ancestral kvass beside a rose‑garden gate while a World Cup match hums in the background. Quiet, cheap, oddly memorable. The thousand year old Marvāo Castle is perched high on the top of a small mountain in the east of Portugal. It is just over a hundred kilometers north from Evora town and makes for a great day trip. Driving the roads through the small villages in the morning is pleasant and peaceful but the castle is visible from far away up high on the top of the hill. There is huge area parking before entering the mainly pedestrian town of Marvāo.This old stone building built village has ancient cobbled streets and is filled with small shops, cafes and a fantastic tourist bureau with helpful people. It is a pleasant walk through the town before arriving at the castle proper. The castles secondary walls and lookouts cascade down along the hillside and are tightly integrated and connected to form an impenetrable barrier! Once you arrive at the top of the hill there is a small ticket concession and the entrance fee is two euros per person. Inside the castle are various courtyards, lookouts, old cannons, small replica living quarters, large towers, many gates, various fortified rooms and a small chapel. The views out over the lands below are breathtaking and to the east, less than ten kilometers away is Spain! There is also a series of underground cisterns to sustain the people in the event of a long siege. This castle has a medieval vibe and its stone work is gorgeous and marvelous. The actual situation on top of a mountain is impressive and yet mind boggling at the amount of work needed to construct it. Also the details that the architects were able to integrate in the construction is amazing! When we visited midweek there were only about twenty other people around, which was a nice change for a few hours from Evora but we happily drove back to the Hilton Garden Inn Evora. Our conversation was dominated by fantasies of what went on during the castle's busy medieval times. #Church ⛪️The bone church is the highlight of this trip to Evora. It is located in the off-white St. Francis Catholic Church. The church was built in the 17th century. Later, a half-blind monk turned 5,000 corpses buried in the church cemetery due to the Black Death or war into decorative artworks, which became the bone church we see today. The scale of this bone church is obviously smaller than the one I saw in the Czech Republic before. It is more simple and you will be scared if you approach it suddenly. However, foreigners do not think these bones are scary, but rather have a sense of nostalgia. The entrance to the Church of Bones has a big sign "Nós ossos que aqui estamos pelos vossos esperamos", which means our bones are waiting for your bones here, so cool👍 Evora is a very small ancient city, and a large section of the ancient city wall is still preserved. If you have enough time, it is recommended to walk slowly to the church and visit the street shops. This is an amazing hotel, so beautiful and luxurious, located in such a small town! We could easily walk from the hotel to all the historical sites and the central square. It was a great trip! We really enjoyed it. Our room was spacious with a quiet balcony and a very comfortable bed and pillows. The bathroom was fully decorated in marble, featuring a walk-in shower and very nice toiletries. Everything was very gorgeous and comfortable. The breakfast was truly delicious, offering a variety of hot and cold foods, and the fruit was fresh. They have a heated swimming pool and an outdoor area with a regular pool. Honestly, I didn't want to leave. If there were more things to do in Évora, I would stay longer just for this hotel. I highly recommend Évora Olive to everyone. Highly recommend Évora Olive.

After the fall of the Roman Empire, it was successively occupied by the Visigoths and the Moors. Therefore, the buildings are mostly a mix of Romanesque, Gothic and Arabic styles. As an important religious and cultural city, Évora was also listed as a World Cultural Heritage in 1986. Famous attractions include the Capela dos Ossos Chapel, located in the square in front of St. Francis Catholic Church? Next to it is the Church of Our Lady of Grace, Igreja da Graça. It is really comfortable to stroll on the cobblestone streets in the city of Évora. In the center of Placa do Giraldo Square, the surrounding shopping streets are crowded and quite lively. The Roman Temple Templo romano de Évora is an ancient Roman site listed as a World Cultural Heritage Site. It was built around the 1st century AD and is dedicated to Diana, the ancient Roman goddess of the moon and hunting. It is also the best-preserved Roman temple on the Iberian Peninsula. If you have more time, you can go to the Almendres Cromlech Stonehenge, which is located 15 kilometers west of Evora. It is similar to Stonehenge in the UK. It is the largest existing circular stone circle on the Iberian Peninsula and is very suitable for taking pictures.

Evora is one of my favorite old towns in Portugal. This white city still breathes the warm atmosphere of the mixed cultures it encountered in its vibrant history. You can see typical narrow Moorish streets, white meticulously designed buildings combined with its agricultural and spiritual heritage. It's small and flat, perfect for walking, but large and interesting enough to make visitors feel comfortable as they slowly stroll along the cobblestone streets and beautiful squares. #2024wish We were really lucky that the weather permitted us to skydive during our visit to Portugal. Initially we booked skydiving in Faro, the southern part of Portugal with nice beaches. However the weather was not good there. So we chose to skydive in Evora instead. Evora is about 1.5 h from Lisbon by train. Skydiving has been in my dad's bucket list for a long time. We tried to do it in New Zealand in 2019 but the weather was not good when we were there. Then we stopped traveling for almost 3 years due to the pandemic. Finally my dad got to tick skydiving off his bucket list at an age of 71! I'm so proud of him. Tandem skydiving is really easy. Just follow the instructions given and trust your instructor. The whole process, excluding briefing, can be completed in 30 minutes. 15-20 minutes airplane ride, jump off the plane and free fall for about 1 min, open the parachute and glide for about 5 min and you will have an experience of a lifetime. Made a stop at Evora and there I was..enjoying the bird's eye view from 16,404.2ft for a 75secs of 200km/h free fall. thanks to my tandem master, Fraustino for letting me to steer the parachute as well. So if you feel like getting that adrenaline pumping, just strap urself to a jumper n jump!! this one took me around €240 including videos and pictures. hoping one day i would be able to take up the skydiving course & with that i can burn more calories but in a fun way. I Love Évora. It’s an old city, capital from Alentejo’s state in Portugal. It is so charming. This was my first time there and I couldn’t believe how beautiful it is. There are many restaurants, bars and shops in the downtown. You can find really good Portuguese food in the main square in front of the church. 👏🏻 There is also a very famous church builded by bones. We booked a day in Evora with Fernando, and it truly exceeded our expectations. Fernando is more than just a chauffeur—he’s part historian, part sociologist, offering deep insights into Portugal’s past and present. He has an amazing ability to tune into his guests’ interests and adjust the itinerary, either on the spot or in advance, to suit them perfectly. Our day included an unplanned stop at Setubal, where we visited the ancient hilltop fort of Sao Filipe. The fort provided breathtaking views of the Comporta beaches and the ocean—a hidden gem we wouldn’t have discovered without Fernando. We highly recommend spending at least a day or more with him!
