#easytravelpost "Cala di Luna" is the same beach as Cala Luna (851) but the angle here is the cliff-top: the abandoned shepherd huts (pinnette and masonry) 80 m above the cave beach, reachable by the Supramonte path from Cala Fuili or the Codula di Luna exit. I trekked Fuili→Luna (07:00 start), then climbed the west spur to the hut ledge at 10:00. The cliff moss is the hut ledge: Hylocomium and Sphagnum in the ruin drainage where the shepherds kept goats, Fissidens on the limestone blocks of the collapsed pinnette, and the cliff drop to the cave beach has Metzgeria on the seep—the huts sit where the moss holds soil, the only buildable ledge for 200 m. I ate lunch in the lee of a hut wall, the moss 2 m off, the sea emerald below, a raven caching cheese crust. The huts are unstable—don't lean on walls, they're 100-yr dry-stone. Mistake: I thought "cave dwellings" meant I could sleep in the beach caves—coastal caves are flood-risk and protected, the Supramonte huts are unsafe; camp at Cala Luna's back meadow (wild, technically tolerated off-season, not Jul–Aug). Another: I climbed the spur without poles and the limestone grass was slick; the 80 m is short but exposed. Would you trek to Cala di Luna's hut ledge for the dwelling-moss view and descend to the caves, or just boat the beach and skip the climb?

#easytravelpost Cala Cartoe is a granite-cove cluster 6 km north of Cala Gonone (not the limestone south gulf—different rock, different moss), driveable via the Dorgali→Cala Cartoe road, free parking, three small bays (Cartoe, Osalla, S'Abba Druche). I drove from Cala Gonone at 07:00 in June, had Cartoe alone. The cliff moss is the granite rounded outcrops: Polytrichum and Hylocomium in the joint-cracks where rainwater pools, Fissidens on the pink-grey granite seep (granite holds moss differently—acidic, slower, greyer-green than limestone), and the cliff above the north bay has Sphagnum in the heath hollow behind the scrub. I sat on a granite whale-back at 07:30, the moss cool under my palm, the sea flat, a gull on the next rock. Cartoe has a summer kiosk (cash, pricey panini), no QR cap, no boats needed—local secret versus the south-gulf circus. Mistake: I came expecting limestone cliffs like Goloritzé and was confused—Cartoe is granite, lower, gentler, better for kids; don't bring climbing dreams. Another: I drove the last 1 km of dirt in a sedan after rain and bottomed out; dry-day or 4×4. Would you drive Cala Cartoe for the granite-moss bays at 07:00 and skip the boat queues, or commit the south-gulf Zodiac instead?

#easytravelpost Cala Fuili is the last road cove north of Cala Gonone—drive to the end of Via Cala Fuili, free parking, short stair descent to a pebble beach, and the start of the 7 km coastal path to Cala Luna (2.5–3 hrs). I slept in Cala Gonone (€70 room), drove to Fuili at 06:45 in June, started walking at 07:00. The cliff moss is the path's first 2 km: Hylocomium and Sphagnum in the holm-oak shade where the Supramonte meets the sea, Fissidens on the limestone blocks the path cuts through, and the cliff above the tiny cove of Cala Fuili itself has Metzgeria on the seep—the path climbs to 100 m ledges, the moss glows in the east light. I passed one goatherd, zero tourists, reached the Cala Luna overlook at 09:00, dropped to the cave beach by 09:40. The path is rough limestone—poles help, 2 L water minimum, no source until Cala Luna's seep. Mistake: I started at 10:00 once and hit Cala Luna at 13:00 with the boat crowds—06:30 start from Fuili gives you Luna before the 09:00 boat. Another: I drove a rental Fiat to Fuili in July and the lot was full by 08:30; park in Cala Gonone and walk the extra 20 min. Would you walk Cala Fuili→Cala Luna coastal path for the cliff-moss ledges at 07:00, or drive Fuili, swim, and skip the Luna push?

#easytravelpost Cala Sisine is where the Codula di Luna canyon meets the sea—a shingle fan with a freshwater stream running across it in spring, 4 km south of Cala Luna, boat-only (€40–50 circuit) or the multi-hour Supramonte traverse (Selvaggio Blu territory). I took the Cala Gonone motorboat (€45 pp), landed 12:00 in June, waded the stream. The cliff moss is the canyon mouth: Cratoneuron and Sphagnum in the streamside reed bed (giant Arundo donax + oleander), Fissidens on the boulders the canyon vomits out, and the 200 m limestone wall has Racomitrium only on the north seep—the rest is bleached white. I sat where the stream met the sea, the moss squelching, a kingfisher off the canyon, the water shifting from fresh to salt in 2 m. No kiosk, no QR (Sisine isn't capped like Goloritzé/Mariolu), but the boat window is 40 min—pack lunch. Mistake: I came in late August and the stream was a trickle—May–June for the real river-mouth marsh, Sep for swim-only. Another: I wore trail runners in the stream and the limestone cobble rolled my ankle; sandals with grip for the wade. Would you boat Cala Sisine for the canyon-moss river mouth at noon, or trek the Codula di Luna from Gola di Gorropu (full-day, guided) and beach out at Sisine?

#easytravelpost Cala Goloritzé is the southern icon—143 m limestone pinnacle (Aguglia), a sea arch, white pebbles, UNESCO Natural Monument, 250 pax/day cap, €6–7 Heart of Sardinia QR, boats forbidden to land (swim from offshore anchor). Hike from Su Golgo plateau (Baunei side) 3.5 km / 90 min down, 2 hrs up; or boat from Cala Gonone/Santa Maria Navarrese and swim in. I did the Su Golgo hike at 06:30 in June, paid €7 QR at the trailhead kiosk, descended through holm-oak woodland. The cliff moss is the pinnacle's north base: Polytrichum and Fissidens in the limestone seep where the Aguglia weeps after rain, Sphagnum in the holm-oak leaf-litter on the upper path, and the arch's underside has Verrucaria (black crust) mixed with green Fissidens where the spray hits. I reached the cove at 08:00, the moss silver, the spire pink in the low light, maybe 12 people total. By 11:00 the cap of 250 was visibly filling—rangers count at the trailhead. Mistake: I hiked back up at 13:00 and it was 34°C on the limestone—descent by 08:00, swim, ascend by 10:30, or you'll crawl. Another: I tried to photograph the arch from a hired RIB that "landed" me—skipper got a €500 fine; boats must stay 100 m off, swim in only. Would you hike Su Golgo→Goloritzé for the spire-moss dawn at 08:00, or boat-snorkel from Cala Gonone and swim ashore (no QR queue at sea, but cap still applies)?

#easytravelpost Cala Mariolu is 3 km south of Cala Luna, a small pebble cove with white-and-pink cobbles ("mermaid's tears") and a 700-visitor/day cap enforced via Heart of Sardinia QR (€1 fee, book 72 hrs ahead in Jul–Aug). Boats from Cala Gonone circle it but you swim ashore; Santa Maria Navarrese is closer from the south (35 min by RIB). I took a Zodiac from Cala Gonone (€95 pp, 8 hrs, 12 pax max), anchored 50 m off at 11:30 in June. The cliff moss is the limestone apron above the pebbles: Racomitrium on the wind-clipped ledge, Fissidens in the spring trickle at the north end (where the "Mariolu" monk-seal name comes from), and the cave mouth at the south side has Metzgeria on the seep. I snorkeled the north reef at 12:00, surfaced, hauled onto a pebble, the moss 3 m above my head glowing in the glare. No kiosk—carry water + panino, the €1 QR is checked by roving rangers. Mistake: I showed up without the QR in July and the ranger turned me back to the boat—book the code before you leave Cala Gonone, even on a private RIB. Another: I anchored on the posidonia meadow (the green seagrass) and the skipper fined me €150 equivalent in shame—anchor only on sand, never the meadow. Would you Zodiac Cala Mariolu for the pebble-moss north spring at 11:00, or hike in from Su Golgo (90 min) and skip the boat circus?

#easytravelpost Cala Luna sits halfway down the Gulf of Orosei, a 200 m crescent of pale shingle under a row of seven limestone cave-mouths, reachable by boat from Cala Gonone (€20–25 one-way, €40–50 full circuit) or by the 7 km Cala Fuili→Cala Luna trek (2.5–3 hrs, free). I drove Nuoro→Cala Gonone (40 min), parked free at the harbour, took the 09:00 boat, landed at 10:00 in June. The cliff moss is the cave mouths: Fissidens and Cratoneuron in the limestone drip-lines where the caves stay shaded at noon, Sphagnum in the freshwater seep behind the beach (oleander + tamarisk root zone), and the cliff above the east end has Hylocomium on the holm-oak (Quercus ilex) ledge. I sat in cave #4 at 11:00, the moss silver with overnight dew, the sea emerald 10 m out, a lizard on the moss stone. The caves are the only shade for 200 m—arrive by 10:00 or the boats dump 100 people and the sand is a towel mosaic. Mistake: I came by the 13:00 return boat from Cala Gonone and Cala Luna was packed—take the 09:00 out, 15:30 back, or trek from Cala Fuili at 07:00 for a solo dawn. Another: I wore flip-flops on the Cala Fuili path and the limestone scree chewed my heels; trail shoes. Would you boat Cala Luna at 09:00 for the cave-moss shade, or trek Cala Fuili→Luna and boat back?

I drove from Nuoro over the Supramonte pass to Cala Gonone (free parking at the harbor) and caught the 9 am boat to Cala Luna. Standard ferry €35 one way, €40 with a 30-min stop at Grotta del Bue Marino (Sea Ox Cave); the cave itself also charges €12 cash on entry, so "€40 ticket" is misleading—budget €52 all-in if you go in.The 30-min crossing south hugs a wall of Jurassic limestone: abrupt 300 m cliffs, cliff-face goat trails, and sudden coves—Cala Biriola, then Cala Luna's arc of sand with its row of six freshwater grottoes at the back. I hopped off at Cala Luna, swam 40 min in 24 °C water, ate a panino from the seasonal kiosk (€7, ran out by 1 pm), and took the 3:30 return. The Bue Marino stop on the way back was worth it: stalactites over a 15 m deep blue sink, monk-seal history panels in Italian. Mistake: I booked only the €35 ticket first time, saw the cave mouth from the deck, and regretted it—next trip I paid the €40+€12. Another mistake: not bringing snorkel gear; the cliff-base snorkeling at Cala Luna beats the beach. Full-day hop-on tours (Cala Mariolu, Goloritzé, Sisine) run €40–70 depending on dinghy vs motorboat, leaving 9 am returning 5 pm.Worth it? The €35 one-way Cala Luna run is the sweet spot for independent types; the cave adds geology you can't see elsewhere. Skip the full Gulf tour if you get seasick—it's 8 hrs. Question: would you rather pay €52 for one beach + one cave, or €70 for five coves you see mostly from the deck?

Cala Luna is a place where you absolutely don't need any filters. Getting here is half the fun! We arrived at Cala Luna by sea, and when those majestic caves emerged from behind the rocks, it felt like we were pulling up to a secret island from a pirate movie. The beach is tucked away between towering cliffs, and this sense of isolation makes it truly special. The water is so crystal clear that the boats look like they're hovering in thin air! The entire day flew by in a flash: swimming in the incredibly pristine sea, exploring the grottos, and grabbing a delicious bite at a little local bar nearby. There's also a small restaurant that serves mind-blowing fried seafood. If you're ever in Sardinia, don't even think about skipping this spot. It's worth every single minute of the trip! ✨ Bookmark this if you're planning a getaway to Italy 📌

I booked an Ocean View room, which only offered a glimpse of the sea when I turned my head to the right from the balcony. This was after an upgrade (booking with my Amex card automatically upgraded me to FHR and gave me a $150 hotel credit, so the "sandwich method" didn't work 😂). (Hotel: Just tell me if you can see the sea or not 🙃) The hotel's soundproofing was terrible; I could hear the neighbors talking quite clearly. On the first night, right after dinner at 10 pm, the couple next door started arguing fiercely, using all sorts of F-words and curses. I thought it was going to go on until midnight. Turns out, I guessed wrong 🙂 The couple stopped arguing promptly at 11 pm, but at 2 am, they started running and shouting wildly upstairs (I'm on the 4th floor, 5th floor). I called the front desk twice, and they said they'd send someone up to remind them, but each time it was quiet for a while before starting again 🙂 It finally stopped at 3:30 am. The next day, we asked the front desk to change rooms, but they said the people upstairs had already checked out (so it was a last-minute party, right? 🙃). We insisted on changing rooms, and they eventually gave us a top-floor room very close to the sea (Picture 3️⃣ - still look to the right 😅). Why a minor complaint? Because the hotel restaurant was indeed very good, with delicious food and drinks 😅, and the staff were quite friendly. The hotel had many activities every day; I went to acrobatic show and a clay sculpting class (Picture 8️⃣). On a nice day, you can walk a short distance to the beach and take great photos; there are some popular Instagrammable spots. The restaurants were all great; each restaurant has its own wine list, and you can also order classic wines directly. During my two-day stay, I ate at Cala di Luna, El Suspiro, and Cilento (pictures 4-7). Cala di Luna (Mediterranean cuisine - the bread and seafood risotto were good). El Suspiro (Caribbean cuisine - the octopus and grilled fish were delicious!). Cilento (Italian cuisine - the lamb chops and beef stew were the best for dinner! The mushroom soup and steak for lunch were also delicious!).

🇮🇹 On the magnificent Italian island of Sardinia, you will find some of the most breathtakingly beautiful beaches in the entire world. This is not an exaggeration. The island is blessed with a spectacular coastline of fine white sand, rugged granite coves, and seawater in shades of turquoise, azure, and emerald so vivid they have to be seen to be believed. ✨ The legendary Costa Smeralda, or 'Emerald Coast', is the island's most glamorous corner. Here, stunning beaches like Capriccioli and Spiaggia del Principe are framed by wind-sculpted granite rocks and the fragrant scent of juniper and Mediterranean scrub. The water is incredibly clear, shallow, and calm, creating the perfect natural swimming pools in a rugged yet impossibly chic setting. ⛵️ For a wilder, more dramatic coastal experience, you must explore the Gulf of Orosei on the eastern coast. This stretch is defined by towering limestone cliffs that plunge into electric-blue water, hiding some of Europe's most beautiful coves. The only way to reach many of these jewels, like the famous Cala Luna, is by boat, making their discovery a true adventure with an unforgettable reward. ✅ Unmissable Sardinian Beaches: Hike or take a boat to the absolutely breathtaking Cala Goloritzé, a UNESCO site famous for its dazzling white pebbles, a natural limestone arch, and impossibly clear water 🏞️. Visit La Pelosa in the northwest to witness some of the shallowest, most vividly blue water on the planet, with an ancient stone watchtower creating a stunning focal point ♖. For a different landscape, explore the beaches of Chia in the south, where you can walk across soft, golden sand dunes and spot pink flamingos in the nearby lagoons 🦩. 💡 Pro Tip: To truly explore the incredible diversity of Sardinia's coastline, hiring a car is essential. It gives you the freedom to discover hidden coves and less-crowded beaches away from the main resorts. For the best experience, visit in June or September to enjoy beautiful warm weather and far fewer crowds than in the peak months of July and August. 🏨 Hotel Recommendation: For an iconic stay on the glamorous Costa Smeralda, book a room at the Hotel Cala di Volpe. This legendary 5-star hotel, designed to look like a traditional fishing village, offers unparalleled luxury, its own private beach, and stunning views over the most beautiful bay in the Mediterranean. You can book your stay via Trip.com. #Travel2GetAhead #bucketlist #trip #travelgram #instatravel #wanderlust #beautifuldestinations #eurotrip #italytrip #onceinalifetimetrip #adventuretrip #sunshinetrip #roadtrip #beachtrip #holidaytrip #daretotrip #summertrip #Sardinia #Italy #CostaSmeralda #Sardegna #CalaGoloritze #LaPelosa #ItalianBeaches #Mediterranean #VisitItaly #IslandLife

A long awaited holiday on what's rapidly becoming our second home from home. What an interesting place! A Clam fossil in the first picture. Then some graffiti, followed by moody weather shots of Cala Gonone from the jetty & on the boat heading to Grotto Bue Marino (€28 @ time of posting). Confession time the last 2 pics are not from the hotel we stayed at, but we had access to the pool of its "sister" hotel. The weather has been kind to us. Only one day, late in the afternoon, of heavy rain and we still managed to get caught in it! Although we visit after the tourist season ends (off-peek), it has been cooler. it was a cooler, cloudy day so we decided to go hiking to the Nuraghe Mannu. It is a Nuragic archeological site overlooking the Village of Cala Gonone and should provide a few good pictures. Those of you with keen eyes would have noticed the site isn't one of the pictures included. We somehow managed to miss the turn to get to the Nuraghe 😂, but managed to capture a shot looking down at Cala Gonone, the beach and a rather tame 🦋. It is possible to get to the Nuraghe from a different side and we had good intentions on doing so the following day. Unfortunately, or fortunately 😀, the sun and hot weather returned and we decided to hit the beach! We'll be back Cala Gonone... so much we want to see and do.
