Autumn in the River and Sea | A 3-Day Niche Travel Guide to Binzhou✨ In September–October, autumn deepens along the Yellow River in Binzhou, and the sea breeze along the Bohai coast is refreshing. It also happens to be the season when Zhanhua winter jujubes ripen. Avoid the usual popular tourist spots and take a slow journey along the Yellow River, the coast, and ancient towns to immerse yourself in the unique, rich, and vibrant atmosphere of the northern Shandong region. 📅 3-Day Itinerary Day 1: Binzhou City Center > Binzhou Museum > Former Residence of Du Shoutian > Sunset at Puhu Scenic Area After arriving, there's no rush to head to the outskirts. In the morning, visit the Binzhou Museum to carefully read about the development history of the Yellow River Delta; the collection of artifacts completely records the past years of northern Shandong. Afterward, head to the Former Residence of Du Shoutian. Wander through the old Ming and Qing dynasty courtyards; the quiet residence doesn't have many tourists, allowing you to slowly appreciate the architectural layout of northern Shandong homes. In the evening, walk to the shore of Puhu Lake, stroll along the lakeside trail, and wait for a gentle lakeside sunset. Day 2: Wudi Ancient City > Jieshi Mountain > Shell Dike Wetland Spend the whole day heading toward Wudi. In the morning, wander around the free-to-enter Wudi Ancient City. The Dajue Temple ancient pagoda and the Ming and Qing dynasty county government offices are scattered throughout. There are no crowded tour groups, making it perfect for a leisurely stroll through the bluestone alleys. Afterward, drive to Jieshi Mountain, a rare ancient volcano on the North China Plain. After reaching the summit, enjoy a panoramic view of the vast plains. In the afternoon, head to the Shell Dike Wetland. This coastline, formed by the accumulation of billions of shells, is very unique. Walk along the wetland boardwalk and wait for the flocks of migratory birds to return in the evening. Day 3: Madahu National Wetland Park > Xincheng Pastoral > Return trip On the third day, step into the water towns and pastoral landscapes of Boxing, Binzhou. Stroll through Madahu Wetland Park; the reed marshes slowly turn yellow in the autumn, the lake water is tranquil, and the view is full of water town pastoral scenery. Afterward, head to Xincheng Pastoral. Large stretches of farmland and orchards are spread out. By the end of September, winter jujubes and various fresh fruits are ripening one after another, allowing you to experience the pastoral scenery. After the tour, you can pack your bags and head home. The entire itinerary covers culture, volcanoes, wetlands, and pastoral life, with a relaxed and comfortable pace. 🚗 Transportation Guide Driving is the preferred way to explore Binzhou. It takes about 1 hour to drive from Jinan to Binzhou city center. The roads from the city center to various spots in Wudi and Boxing are smooth, and most scenic areas are equipped with free parking lots. Public transport: Arrive at Binzhou Station by high-speed rail. You can take a taxi in the city center. Intercity bus services to suburban attractions in Wudi and Boxing are infrequent, and waiting times are long. If traveling with a group, it is recommended to charter a car. Ride-hailing coverage in county-level rural areas is low, so plan your travel arrangements in advance. 🏡 Accommodation Options Option 1: For convenient dining and travel, stay near Bohai 7th Road in Bincheng District. There are plenty of chain hotel options in the city, and the surrounding area is full of local snack shops and old restaurants. The night market is lively, making dining very convenient. Option 2: If you prefer quiet pastoral scenery, you can choose a hotel in Boxing County, which is convenient for visiting Madahu the next day, though there are fewer dining options in the evening compared to the city center. Rooms are in high demand during holidays; it is recommended to book one week in advance. 🍜 Food List Prioritize local old restaurants in the city and county; restaurants around scenic spots generally offer average value for money. ✅ Xingjia Guozibing (Pan-fried Pancake Roll): A signature Binzhou delicacy with a chewy pancake wrapper rolled with meat and vegetable fillings, full of flavor ✅ Qiaozhuang Pan-fried Bun: Golden and crispy on the bottom with juicy fillings, a top choice for an authentic northern Shandong breakfast ✅ Huimin Donkey Meat Burger: Tender donkey meat with a crispy outer crust, a classic northern Shandong flavor ✅ Wudingfu Pickles: Salty, sweet, and crunchy, a specialty side dish with a long history ✅ Sesame Crispy Candy: Silky and crispy, a traditional handmade pastry suitable as a souvenir 👕 Autumn Outfit & Photography In September–October, there is a large temperature difference between day and night in Binzhou. Daytime temperatures are comfortable, but the wind is strong by the sea and lakes. Use layered outfits: a long-sleeved base layer plus a windbreaker. There are many mosquitoes in wetlands and by the lakes, so be prepared with mosquito repellent. Earth-toned and white clothing go very well with reeds, shell coasts, and ancient city architecture. Best time for photos: 4:00 PM–6:00 PM. The soft sunset light creates the best atmosphere for shooting at the Shell Dike Wetland and Puhu Lake. ⚠️ Tips to Avoid Pitfalls 1. The Shell Dike is an ecological reserve. Do not pick up or take away shells, and do not trample on the beach vegetation. Please consciously protect the coastal ecology. 2. For winter jujube picking, try to choose legitimate orchards. Communicate the picking fees in advance and do not pick fruit from roadside trees at will. 3. Some paths in the Jieshi Mountain volcanic area are uneven. Try to stick to the official trails and do not climb unofficial paths on your own. 4. The surface of Madahu Lake is vast. When walking by the lake, be sure to pay attention to safety and keep an eye on the elderly and children in your group. 5. Traffic at various attractions increases during the National Day holiday. The pastoral autumn scenery is best in mid-October, when the number of tourists is lowest. This entire itinerary breaks away from traditional tourist routes, connecting ancient cities, volcanoes, shell coasts, and Yellow River wetlands to deeply experience the autumn charm of this small city in the northern Shandong region of the Yellow River Delta.

The "Lotus in Silk" Buddhist Statue Art Exhibition from the Longhua Temple site at the Boxing County Museum truly lives up to its reputation! 🎨 The moment I walked into the exhibition hall, I felt an instant sense of calm. 🤫 Each Buddhist statue stands quietly under the soft lighting, with lowered eyes and flowing robes, the power of that serenity striking straight to the heart 💫. Seeing the details up close is absolutely stunning! The robes are as light and airy as silk, with lines so fluid they take your breath away 👀—it's no wonder it's called "Lotus in Silk," a name well-deserved! ❤️ Personal thoughts: After walking through, I felt as if my soul had been cleansed. This kind of deeply ingrained Oriental aesthetic is something you can only truly appreciate when you see it with your own eyes. Highly recommended for those who love history, culture, and art!

It's not overly commercialized, the pace is slow and relaxed, and it has everything from cultural sites to wetlands. It's the perfect spot for a quick weekend getaway! 🏯 Must-visit attractions ✅ Sun Tzu's Art of War City Admission is 50 yuan. It's a complex of Qin and Han dynasty-style architecture with an incredible atmosphere. There are 15 main halls, each corresponding to one of the 13 chapters of The Art of War. There are very few tourists, so it's incredibly comfortable to catch a breeze under the corridors. You can stroll around quietly and slowly, immersing yourself in military strategy culture. The experience is so much better than crowded tourist spots. ✅ Wei's Manor A rare Qing dynasty castle-style landlord manor. It has everything: watchtowers, secret passages, and defensive walls—it's like a real-life ancient castle. Walking inside, you can truly feel the architectural ingenuity of wealthy families from the past. If you love history, don't miss this. ✅ Heban Mountain | Madahu Wetland A natural summer retreat! The temperature here is about 5°C lower than in the city center during the summer. Enjoy some fresh air in the mountains or take a walk on the wooden boardwalks in the wetlands. The surface of Madahu Lake is covered in lotus leaves; you can take a boat ride through the lotus flowers. If you're lucky, you might even see egrets skimming across the water. The atmosphere is absolutely perfect. ✅ Zhonghai Park Open all day for free! The iconic aircraft carrier replica landmark is right by the lake, and it's stunning in the evening. Stroll along the lakeside trail with the evening breeze on your face—it's the perfect place to relax and unwind. You can enjoy the night view without spending a penny. 🗓️ 2-day, 1-night lazy itinerary reference ▪ Day 1: Sun Tzu's Art of War City → Wei's Manor. Stay in downtown Binzhou in the evening and explore the local night market. ▪ Day 2: Choose between hiking for fresh air at Heban Mountain or taking a boat ride at Madahu Wetland. Stroll through Zhonghai Park in the evening, then head home. 🍜 Food & expenses Prices in Northern Shandong are really reasonable! You can order Guozibing (pancake), donkey meat, and local snacks without worrying about the price—the portions are generous and the prices are friendly. Choose a chain hotel in the city center. The whole trip, including food, accommodation, and activities, can be done for CNY 500 per person. It's suitable for students, trips with friends, or short family getaways. This small city isn't fancy or glamorous, but it's incredibly relaxing. If you don't want to rush your itinerary, hate crowds, and just want a quiet place to escape the summer heat and eat good food, this is the place for you!

Everyone! Shandong actually hides a free “Lubei water town” 🌊 Reed beds sway as black-awning boats glide by, lotus flowers bloom in clusters, and you can enjoy the slow water town life without going south. Just head there this weekend! 🚤【Must-see highlights】 ✔️Ten thousand acres of reed beds: Take a boat into the reeds. When the wind blows, the reeds rustle softly, and water birds occasionally flutter out. Every photo you take is a soothing masterpiece that will have your friends asking where you are! ✔️Thousand-acre lotus garden: The lotus blooms peak in June and July. Walk along the wooden boardwalk to get close for photos. You might also find fresh lotus pods for sale—3 for 10 yuan, sweet and more refreshing than milk tea! ✔️Intangible cultural heritage fish lantern exhibition: The evening lighting is stunning. Antique-style fish lanterns hang under the eaves, reflecting on the water, creating an amazing atmosphere. Wearing Hanfu for photos makes the shots even better! ✔️Local food stalls: Be sure to try the Mada Lake duck eggs, rich and fragrant enough to make you stomp your feet, plus freshly fried lake shrimp, crispy outside and tender inside. Perfect for snacking while strolling! ⚠️【Tips to avoid trouble】 ❌Don’t wear high heels! The wooden boardwalk and lakeside paths are uneven. Walking all afternoon might make your feet hurt badly. ❌Wear a sun hat and sunglasses! There’s no shade by the lake, and the sun is dazzling. Don’t get two shades darker after a day out. ❌If you want to take a boat, ask about the price in advance. Ask a few times to avoid being overcharged. We recommend the hand-rowed black-awning boats—they’re slow and more authentic. 🎫The entire scenic area is free to enter! Parking is also free. When you’re tired, find a shady tree by the lake, feel the breeze, watch the water birds fly by, and let all your worries drift away 😌 Tag your travel buddy now and go to Mada Lake this week to be a happy “water town local” for a day!

Everyone! Who knows! There’s a hidden “Little Jiangnan of the North” in Shandong 🌳 You don’t have to go to Jiangnan to experience the same green wonderland. You can head there this weekend! 🏕️【Must-see highlights】 ✔️ Ten thousand acres of locust trees: Visit in April or May when the locust flowers are in full bloom. The breeze carries the scent of locust flowers all around. Every photo looks like a forest masterpiece, and you can even pick fallen locust flowers to take home and make cakes! ✔️ Yellow River viewing platform: Walk right to the riverbank to see the “Yellow River water coming from the sky.” At sunset, the golden light sparkles on the water, perfect for social media posts. ✔️ Camping and picnic area: There are flat clearings in the woods where you can set up your own tent and stay all afternoon. Open-fire grilling is allowed (remember to ask the management for designated areas in advance). Listening to cicadas and feeling the breeze is 100 times better than being in an air-conditioned room! ⚠️【Tips to avoid trouble】 ❌ Don’t wear light-colored shoes! There are muddy spots in the woods, and white shoes will turn gray after a walk. ❌ Bring enough mosquito repellent! Mosquitoes are really active where there are many trees. Don’t wait until you have itchy bites to regret it. ❌ It’s best to drive yourself. The park is large, and there’s free parking at the entrance. You can rest in your car anytime if you get tired. 🎫 Free admission! Free parking! If you want to avoid crowds on the weekend, just walk deeper into the woods and find a quiet spot to lie down. All your worries will be blown away by the wind 😆 What are you waiting for? Tag your travel buddy and head out this week!

Have you ever seen a bodhisattva statue with a carved cicada on its head? This is a stone bodhisattva statue with a cicada crown from the Eastern Wei dynasty, excavated from the Longhua Temple site in Boxing, Shandong. The bodhisattva’s crown features a carved cicada in the center, based on an ancient Han dynasty belief. The ancients thought cicadas could shed their shells and be reborn, symbolizing the soul’s transformation and transcendence beyond life and death. This Buddhist statue, influenced by foreign Buddhism, incorporates native Chinese culture, making it an excellent example of Buddhism’s sinicization. The soft, open facial features unique to the Eastern Wei dynasty show slightly closed eyes and a faint, reserved smile. After thousands of years, the stone statue has some damage to the nose, crown edges, and arms, but traces of the original paint remain on the halo behind it. The artifact was once lost to the Meishu Museum in Japan. After years of negotiation, it was returned to its homeland in 2007 and is now permanently housed in Shandong Museum. More than 1,500 years have passed, yet the gentle and calm expression remains unchanged. 📍 Shandong Museum

Over the weekend, I took my child and Nian Gao to Binzhou Boxing, a place famously known as the "Hometown of Dong Yong." It was a delightful surprise! 🌟 Not only is the cultural atmosphere rich, but the surrounding attractions are also captivating. The little tent and toys designed for kids were a big hit, and Nian Gao loved chasing and playing on the carpet. The room was spacious and bright, with beautiful city views right outside the window. Waking up every morning, we felt full of energy and happiness. 🌞 🍽️ Delicious and abundant buffet 🍲 The hotel’s buffet restaurant is truly a treasure. The breakfast offers a wide variety, from Chinese pastries to Western breads, all exquisitely made and tasty. Lunch and dinner were even more surprising, featuring authentic Shandong cuisine and exquisite Wagyu hot pot—each bite was a feast for the taste buds. The kids and Nian Gao ate heartily, and I was happy along with them. 😋 🏊‍♀️ Comfortable and relaxing leisure spaces 🌿 The hotel’s gym and laundry area are thoughtfully designed, so even on long trips, you can maintain your daily routine. The 24-hour convenience store and self-service drink bar are perfect spots for a quiet break late at night. So, after leaving the super busy streets of Busan, our cruise docked at this really quiet little port called Yeosu. Honestly, I didn't have huge expectations at first, but oh my god, it is such a hidden gem! Running my own bakery back in Hong Kong means I’m always on my feet and constantly stressed, so this slow-paced, peaceful town was exactly the healing therapy I needed. Our first stop was Odongdo Island. To get there, you walk along this long breakwater road—about 1km, but the sea breeze was so nice it didn't feel tiring at all. The island is basically like a natural green tunnel with all these lush trees. We walked up to the lighthouse at the top, and the view of the harbor was just stunning. It’s so different from the dramatic cliffs in Busan; this place has a much softer, gentler vibe. Super relaxing! Next, we headed to Yi Sun-sin Square. Now, if you know me, you know I’m a massive movie buff! I watched the Korean blockbuster *The Admiral: Roaring Currents* at home a while ago, so standing in the square and seeing the giant statue of General Yi and that life-sized Turtle Ship replica... honestly, I got goosebumps! It felt like stepping straight into the movie scene. We walked around the nearby streets, grabbed some local bites for lunch, and just soaked in the history. After lunch, we drove up to Heungguksa Temple on Yeongchuisan Mountain. It’s a really ancient temple, super quiet with almost no tourists around. The main hall is so rustic and beautiful. I just sat on the wooden steps for a bit, listening to the wind rustling through the trees and the sound of the mountain stream nearby. It felt so incredibly peaceful. For a moment, I completely forgot about my busy baking schedules and flour deliveries back in HK! By late afternoon, we headed back to our cruise ship (Adora Mediterranea) just in time for a nice dinner and some evening strolls on the deck. It’s so nice to travel with family like this—we just sat under the stars talking about all the little things we saw today. Next stop is Jeju Island! I’ve been there before, but I’m super excited to see what’s changed. Do you guys prefer these quiet, underrated towns over big busy cities like Seoul or Busan? Let me know in the comments! 👇

Spent a dreamy evening in Boxing, with sunset views that totally impressed me 🌄. Here’s a quick guide for making the most of a laidback stop in this charming slice of China: Top Spots to Visit in Boxing: 🌅 Sunset at Pu’er – Trust me, catch the sunset here. The vibe is mellow, views are spectacular, and it’s the perfect chill-out spot after a long journey. Go about an hour before the sun dips so you can snag a good seat (locals hang out here, so you’ll get a real slice of the everyday life). ⛩️ Stroll Around Boxing’s Old Streets – Wander through the old town area for authentic snacks and architecture. Pop into any local bakery for fresh steamed buns – they’re super fluffy and cheap. 🚴♂️ Rent a bike for a couple hours – Bikes are easy to find around main streets. The roads are mostly flat, so it’s efficient and fun to just pedal around and soak up the local atmosphere. Practical tips: Public transport is reliable but taxis are cheap – use them after dark if you’re going to/from Pu’er. Bring cash (smaller bills): Some spots are cash-only, especially little food stands. Weather’s mild but it can cool down fast after sunset, so a light jacket is smart. Food Rec: Try Boxing’s classic “chaoshou” (pork dumplings) at a local eatery before heading out for sunset. Small cafés close by 8PM, so don’t wait too late! This culinary journey in Binzhou was a feast for the senses, indulging in century-old flavors and fresh lake delicacies. Every stop was incredibly delicious! And the unique autumn scenery was breathtaking. 🍁 🌮First Stop: Zouping Pingxi Village - Century-Old Taizi Huoshao (Steamed Bun) Binzhou's intangible cultural heritage lives up to its name! Four generations have passed down the traditional dough-making process, resulting in a 27-layer thin crust that's baked until it crumbles. Paired with a bowl of piping hot mixed soup, the bun soaks in the soup, becoming soft on the outside and crispy on the inside. The meat filling is generous, a truly satisfying bite. This century-old local favorite is absolutely amazing! 🍮Second Stop: Zouping Sundanen - Sour Fermented Tofu Made with 600 years of intangible cultural heritage fermentation, the tofu is so tender it melts in your mouth! Must-try dishes at the tofu feast: tofu noodles coated in mushroom oil, juicy stuffed meatballs, and even the experience of grinding soybeans with a stone mill – a double dose of carb and intangible cultural heritage joy! ✨ 🐔Third stop: Zouping Wang Guanghe Qingyang Fried Chicken Local free-range chicken, stir-fried to order with chili peppers, Sichuan peppercorns, and golden ginger, resulting in a spicy and fragrant flavor. The meat is tender and juicy, served with freshly made fried pancakes dipped in the sauce – so delicious you can't stop eating! 🦞Fourth stop: Boxing Mada Lake Fishermen's Home The lake delicacies at this "Jiangnan of the North" are incredibly fresh! Lotus-scented crucian carp, braised loach, crispy lakeside fish, pan-fried crucian carp… a whole fish feast! Enjoy your meal while admiring the scenery from a boat – so relaxing you won't want to leave! There's also a pink muhly grass islet nearby for photos, and the lake scenery is absolutely stunning. 💡Tips: Go to Taizi Huoshao (a type of baked flatbread) in the morning for a hot meal, and it's recommended to book in advance for the Sun Da tender tofu feast!

For the second time, my friends and I ventured on a Cambodia Off Road experience. This occasion was a 6-day Enduro trip. Visal constructed a route to cater specifically to our beginner-level abilities. He encouraged us to challenge ourselves whenever possible to enhance our off-road riding skills. The accommodations he arranged for each night were wonderfully serene. Visal's mechanic, whom we nicknamed T A, demonstrated impressive riding expertise and extensive bike knowledge. Overall, the journey was immensely thrilling and memorable for us all.

Wow.. what an adventure. Amazing off-road riding with river crossings, mud, and dirt trails. Cambodia is a secure and welcoming nation, and I plan to visit again. Visal and Malik made my 5-day temple tour the most remarkable yet. Visal also answered my email inquiries promptly (I had numerous) and proved to be a sincere and knowledgeable individual. The motorcycle was excellent and well-maintained. Many thanks to both for such a fantastic experience.

Shangdong roadside attractions Sun's out, corn's out! In Shandong province, farmers seize sunny days to dry their corn, painting a rural masterpiece of abundance. #ruralvitalization

The hotel is located in Boxing County and is owned by the neighboring building's Jingbo Holdings Group, a major Chinese 500 company – a significant player in this area. The lobby isn't particularly spacious, but it's bright, not at all cramped, and has a very homey feel. The front desk service is, and I apologize if this sounds like an exaggeration, exceptionally high, even considering my nearly 10 years of travel to and from China. The room is well-equipped, with a coffee maker and microwave in addition to the usual amenities. The cleanliness is a positive point. The toilet and bathroom are also convenient, and the vanity is quite large. The downsides are the lack of nearby shops; there's a shopping mall about a 15-minute walk away, but it's so cold in Shandong at the end of November that I wasn't confident I could endure that long. There are also almost no restaurants nearby, only two high-end restaurants catering to business entertaining. There's a convenience store behind the building, but it was closed when I went at 10 PM. I was worried about dinner because I finished work late, but the front desk managed to get the hotel restaurant to accept my ramen order, even though it was past their regular closing time. I was very satisfied with the service, but I found it somewhat inconvenient for a long-term stay.
