Avanos travel guide and discussion

Ever wondered if a dream trip to Turkey will break the bank? After returning from my stunning 7-day adventure through Cappadocia, Antalya, and Istanbul, I've put together this complete itinerary and exact cost breakdown to give you the real picture! ❤️ The Itinerary (7 Days, 7 Nights) · Day 1 (Transit): Fly to Istanbul, followed by a domestic flight to Cappadocia, then head to the hotel in the center of Goreme. · Day 2 (Cappadocia): Catch the sunrise at Aydın Kırağı, visit the Goreme Open Air Museum, explore Avanos pottery town, and watch the sunset at the viewpoint. · Day 3 (Cappadocia): Morning at Love Valley, visit Uchisar Castle and Pigeon Valley. Watch the sunset at Red/Rose Valley. Sleep at a cave hotel in Cavusin. · Day 4 (Cappadocia to Antalya): Morning stroll around Çavuşin Valley. Take an afternoon Flixbus to Antalya. · Day 5 (Antalya to Istanbul): Visit the ancient city of Perge (swapped from Aspendos since I couldn't book a car). Explore Antalya town and the marina. Take an evening flight to Istanbul, head to the hotel in Taksim. · Day 6 (Istanbul): Visit Galata, Taksim Square, and Istiklal street in the morning. Move to Sultanahmet area, visit the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, then take a one-way ferry ride across the Bosphorus Strait to enjoy the view (only went one way because it was too cold and time was tight). · Day 7 (Istanbul): Walk up the Besiktas slopes, shop for sweets at the Spice Bazaar. Head to the airport for the flight home. 💰Cost Breakdown (Total: ~47,750 TRY / ~$1,175) There were 3 of us traveling from Hanoi (Vietnam) on a budget, and these are the costs per person. · Flights (~28,450 TRY / ~$700): Includes international round-trip (Hanoi - Istanbul via Kuala Lumpur) and 2 domestic flights (IST - Cappadocia, Antalya - IST). · Accommodation (~6,000 TRY / ~$150): 2 nights in a standard Goreme hotel, 1 night in a cave suite in Çavuşin, 1 night in Antalya, and 2 nights in Istanbul hostels/hotels. · Food & Drinks (~4,550 TRY / ~$110): Mix of local restaurants (kebabs, fresh seafood), fast food, and budget-friendly meals from convenience stores. · Transport (~4,050 TRY / ~$100): Intercity Flixbus (Cappadocia to Antalya), local taxis, airport shuttles, and Istanbulkart top-ups for public transit. · Visa & SIM (~2,350 TRY / ~$60): Turkish E-visa and travel data SIM. · Sightseeing (~2,350 TRY / ~$55): Entrance tickets to Goreme Open Air Museum, Uchisar Castle, Perge ancient city, and various valleys. 🎈A Few Travel Tips: · Domestic flights are very cheap: Traveling between major Turkish cities by plane is highly affordable and saves a massive amount of time. · Buses offer beautiful views: While taking an intercity bus (like the route to Antalya) takes longer, the scenic landscapes along the way are stunning and definitely worth experiencing. · Attraction tickets are quite expensive: Entrance fees to major historical sites and museums take up a noticeable chunk of the budget. Plan your must-see list carefully to optimize costs. · Currency Exchange: Bring EUR or USD to exchange locally. Exchanging money at the PTT or paying directly in Euros often yields the best rates. #travel2026 #turkey #cappadocia #istanbul #wheretogo #antalya

Çavuşin Pide Fırını is a small roadside café, restaurant and market on the main Göreme–Avanos road in Cappadocia. It is the kind of practical food stop that is easy to miss during the day, but very useful when your hotel is nearby or you want hot Turkish pide to take away after a sunset tour. I noticed it during the day, then came back in the evening to order pide with me. 🥖 WHAT IS PIDE? Pide is a traditional Turkish baked flatbread, usually shaped like a long boat and topped with cheese, minced meat, vegetables, sucuk or mixed fillings. It is served hot from the oven, so it works perfectly as a simple, filling meal after walking, sightseeing or dusty Cappadocia valley routes. 🍽️ MORE THAN JUST PIDE Even though pide was my choice, the menu is wider. I saw options like gözleme, mantı, köfte, tavuk şiş, testi kebabı, breakfast dishes, pizza and künefe. For me, pide felt like the most natural order here because the place has that casual bakery-and-café feeling. 🌿 ROADSIDE CAPPADOCIA ATMOSPHERE The outdoor area gives the place its charm: tables under grape leaves, warm evening lights, Turkish-style textiles on benches, clay pots, small decorative details and a relaxed village-road mood. It is simple and casual, but the setting feels very local in the evening. 🛒 SMALL MARKET BONUS There is also a small market area beside the café, useful if you need water, snacks or non-alcoholic drinks to take back to your hotel. That makes the stop practical not only for dinner, but also for small things after a long day outside. 💸 PRICE IDEA During my visit, pide prices on the menu started around 350 TRY for cheese or minced meat options, with mixed and special toppings higher. Prices can change, but this gives a helpful idea before ordering. 📍 GOOD TO KNOW This is a practical local food stop rather than a polished dinner restaurant. I would choose it for hot pide, a casual meal, takeaway or a quick stop on the Göreme–Avanos road, especially if you are staying nearby or returning from Cappadocia viewpoints. #localfood #çavuşin #cappadocia #turkey #traveltips

When most people think of Cappadocia, they immediately picture hot air balloons floating above the fairy chimneys. I was excited for that too, but during my trip, the balloons didn’t fly because of the weather. Surprisingly, I wasn’t disappointed at all. Instead, I discovered another side of Cappadocia—one filled with peaceful towns, breathtaking scenery, delicious food, and unforgettable moments. 🤍 🏡 Starting the day in a cave hotel I stayed at Potamia Cave Suites, and it was one of the most unique accommodations I’ve ever experienced. Sleeping inside a traditional cave room is something you simply have to try at least once. The hotel perfectly combines authentic Cappadocian architecture with modern comfort, creating a cozy and relaxing atmosphere. Waking up surrounded by ancient stone walls made me feel like I had stepped into another era. ☕ Coffee with an incredible view No trip is complete without a good cup of coffee. Before exploring, I visited Espresso Lab Cappadocia, a beautiful café where I enjoyed a delicious coffee while taking in the peaceful surroundings. It was the perfect place to slow down, recharge, and appreciate the beauty of Cappadocia before continuing the adventure. 🌿 Discovering the peaceful town of Avanos One of my favorite places in Cappadocia turned out to be Avanos. Unlike the rocky landscapes that make Cappadocia famous, Avanos is incredibly green. Tall trees line the streets, colorful flowers brighten every corner, and the peaceful Kızılırmak River, the longest river in Turkey, flows gently through the town. One of the highlights was crossing the famous suspension bridge. As soon as you step onto it, you’ll notice that it gently sways beneath your feet. It may feel a little unusual at first, but after a few steps, it becomes part of the fun. Standing in the middle of the bridge, surrounded by beautiful river views, lush greenery, and the quiet atmosphere of Avanos, was one of my favorite moments of the entire trip. 🌉🌳 I also loved watching the ducks swimming in the river while local families enjoyed their afternoon walks nearby. Everything felt calm, peaceful, and authentic. 🎨 The home of Turkish pottery Avanos has been famous for pottery for centuries. As I wandered through the charming streets, I discovered countless ceramic workshops where talented local artisans continue traditions that have been passed down through generations. The handmade pottery, colorful ceramics, and small family-owned shops gave the town so much character. Even if you’re not planning to buy souvenirs, simply exploring these workshops is an experience worth having. 🍽️ An unforgettable dinner After a wonderful day exploring Avanos, I had dinner at Narin Restaurant, and it quickly became one of my favorite restaurants in Cappadocia. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the staff were incredibly kind, and every dish reflected the rich flavors of traditional Turkish cuisine. Everything tasted fresh, homemade, and beautifully prepared. It was the perfect way to end such a memorable day. ❤️ Cappadocia is much more than hot air balloons My trip reminded me that the best travel experiences often come from unexpected moments. Although I didn’t get to see the balloons in the sky, I experienced peaceful mornings in a cave hotel, enjoyed excellent coffee, walked across a gently swaying suspension bridge, explored the charming streets of Avanos, admired centuries-old pottery traditions, tasted authentic Turkish cuisine, and met wonderful people along the way. Sometimes, the places that aren’t on your original itinerary become the ones you remember the most. If you’re planning a trip to Cappadocia, don’t rush from one famous viewpoint to another. Slow down, explore the local towns, enjoy the cafés, walk along the river, cross the suspension bridge, and let yourself experience the true soul of this magical region. I promise you’ll leave with memories that are even more valuable than the photos. ✨🤍 📍Places I visited: 🏡 Potamia Cave Suites ☕ Espresso Lab Cappadocia 🌿 Avanos 🌉 Avanos Suspension Bridge 🎨 Local Pottery Workshops 🍽️ Narin Restaurant #Cappadocia #Turkey #Avanos #TravelDiary #TravelInspiration #HiddenGems #TurkishCuisine #Pottery #CaveHotel #NatureLovers #Wanderlust #TravelBlogger #ExploreTurkey #AuthenticTravel #TripMoments

If you’re visiting Cappadocia, horseback riding is an experience you shouldn’t miss! 🐎✨ Riding through the valleys at sunrise or sunset feels like stepping into a fairytale. The peaceful landscapes, unique rock formations, and fresh air make it one of the most unforgettable activities in the region. I had an amazing experience with @cappadocia.cowboy and would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a memorable adventure in Cappadocia. 🤍 📍Cappadocia, Türkiye #TripMoments #Cappadocia #Turkey #HorseRiding #Travel #Adventure #VisitTurkey #Nature #Sunset #TravelInspiration

📍 Destination: Cappadocia, Türkiye 🇹🇷 🎈 How I spent a magical few days in Cappadocia with my family. This trip was extra special because I explored Cappadocia with my mom and my younger brother. Traveling together always creates the best memories, and Cappadocia completely stole our hearts. 🌈 One of my favorite things about this region is how colorful and full of history it is. Every street, every rock formation, and every viewpoint feels like stepping into another world. 🏡 We stayed at Potamia Cave Suites, a beautiful cave-style hotel that gave us the authentic Cappadocia experience. Waking up inside a cave room was something I’ll never forget. ☕ Of course, I couldn’t leave Türkiye without trying traditional Turkish coffee—it was the perfect way to slow down and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. 🍽️ For dinner, we visited Narin Restaurant, and it was absolutely delicious. If you’re looking for a place to enjoy local food, I definitely recommend adding it to your itinerary. 🥐 Breakfast at Potamia Cave Suites was another highlight. Starting the day with a traditional Turkish breakfast while surrounded by Cappadocia’s unique landscape was unforgettable. 🌅 We also visited Sun Point, one of the best free viewpoints in Cappadocia. You don’t need an expensive ticket—just grab a cup of coffee, relax, and enjoy the breathtaking sunrise, sunset, or watch the hot air balloons fill the sky. 🎨 Another stop we loved was Avanos, a charming town with colorful streets, pottery shops, and a peaceful riverside atmosphere that’s perfect for a slow afternoon. 🎈 And of course, no trip to Cappadocia is complete without visiting Aşklar Vadisi (Love Valley) before sunrise. Watching hundreds of hot air balloons rise into the sky is one of those moments that photos can never fully capture. 💛 If you’re planning a trip to Türkiye, don’t rush through Cappadocia. Stay for a few days, explore at sunrise, enjoy the local food, and simply take in the magic of this incredible place. #cappadocia #türkiyetravel #familytravel

How many nights do you actually need in Cappadocia? The real answer depends less on the hotel-night count—and more on your flight times, airport transfer, balloon mornings and sightseeing plan. ⏳ 2 NIGHTS Two nights can work when: ✓ You arrive early enough to use Day 1 ✓ Your departure is late enough to protect Day 3 ✓ Airport transfers are confirmed ✓ You choose one main sightseeing plan With a late arrival or early departure, two nights can shrink to only one meaningful local day. 🌄 3 NIGHTS For most first-time travellers, three nights offers the strongest balance. You normally gain: ✓ Two central sightseeing days ✓ More than one potential balloon morning ✓ One organised tour ✓ One flexible exploration or recovery day ✓ Less pressure around airport transfers 🎈 BALLOON REALITY Book the first available morning when flying matters. Not because the first morning has better weather—but because a later morning may remain available if the first flight is cancelled. An extra night creates another opportunity. It does not guarantee: ✗ Daily operating approval ✗ Suitable weather ✗ A replacement seat ✗ The same launch area or flight path Always check the operator or booking platform’s current cancellation, refund and rebooking terms. 🗺️ RED, GREEN OR INDEPENDENT? Red and Green are useful market labels—not fixed official routes. Always confirm the exact stops before booking. 🔴 RED-STYLE DAY Best for a more compact central overview. Typical priorities may include: ✓ Fairy-chimney landscapes ✓ Viewpoints ✓ Museums or open-air sites ✓ Avanos or nearby village stops ✓ Less regional driving than a Green-style day 🟢 GREEN-STYLE DAY Best when an underground city, Ihlara Valley or Selime genuinely matters. Expect: ✓ More road time ✓ A longer day ✓ Stairs and enclosed spaces ✓ A selected valley walk rather than the full canyon Travellers who are claustrophobic, have difficulty with stairs or dislike long road days should check the itinerary carefully. 🚶 ONE TOUR + ONE FLEXIBLE DAY For most three-night trips, this usually creates a better balance than automatically booking both colour tours. Use the flexible day for: ✓ Göreme Open Air Museum ✓ A shorter valley walk ✓ Uçhisar ✓ Taxi-assisted exploration ✓ Rest after a pre-dawn start ✓ Weather recovery 📍 WHERE SHOULD YOU STAY? GÖREME The strongest short-stay and no-car default. Choose it for: ✓ Restaurants and tour agencies ✓ Common pickup convenience ✓ Local walking access ✓ Broad accommodation choice UÇHISAR Better for panoramic views, quieter hotel time and a more stay-led experience. ÜRGÜP Better for larger-town services, full-service accommodation and travellers using private transport or a rental car. ORTAHISAR Better for a quieter, targeted boutique stay with more dependence on arranged transport. For two or three nights, avoid changing hotels within Cappadocia. 🛏️ CAVE ROOM OR STONE ROOM? Check the exact room—not only the hotel description. Confirm: ✓ Window and natural light ✓ Ventilation and bathroom airflow ✓ Heating or air conditioning ✓ Stairs and luggage access ✓ Room-to-reception route ✓ Vehicle drop-off point A cave room may offer more atmosphere. A stone or conventional room may provide a more familiar layout, brighter windows or easier access. ✈️ NAV OR ASR? Nevşehir Airport usually offers the shorter road transfer. Kayseri Airport may still create the stronger complete journey when its flight timing, fare or connection is better. Compare: ✓ Flight arrival time ✓ Connection margin ✓ Shared-transfer waiting ✓ Hotel arrival time ✓ Final departure pickup Choose the airport that protects more usable Cappadocia time—not simply the one that looks closer on the map. 📸 WHEN DOES A 4TH NIGHT EARN IT? Add a fourth night for: ✓ Hiking ✓ Photography across several dawns ✓ Winter flexibility ✓ Poor flight timings ✓ Slower pacing ✓ Both central and distant route systems Do not add it only to “guarantee” a balloon flight. 📌 FINAL BOOKING ORDER FLIGHTS → USABLE DAYS → BALLOON MORNING → TOUR CHOICE → BASE → ROOM → TRANSFER Save this before booking Cappadocia. #Cappadocia #CappadociaTravel #Goreme #Uchisar #Urgup #HotAirBalloon #TurkeyTravel #TürkiyeTravel #CappadociaItinerary #RedTour #GreenTour #CaveHotel #TravelPlanning #JnATravelMoments

Turkey is a magical blend of surreal natural landscapes, rich ancient history, and vibrant cultures bridging Europe and Asia. If you are planning your first trip, here is a breakdown of my 7-day journey from Cappadocia to the coastal charm of Antalya, wrapping up in historic Istanbul. Day 1: Arrival & Journey to Cappadocia · Istanbul Connection to Cappadocia: Land in Istanbul, clear immigration, grab an Istanbulkart, and catch a domestic flight straight to Cappadocia. · Evening in Göreme: Head to my hotel in Göreme by airport shuttle to settle in and get a good night's rest for an early start tomorrow. Day 2: Exploring Cappadocia – Göreme & Avanos · Aydın Kırağı Sunrise Point: Wake up early to catch a breathtaking panoramic sunrise over Göreme as the town slowly bathes in golden morning light. · Göreme Open Air Museum: A UNESCO World Heritage site featuring remarkable rock-cut churches and monasteries adorned with centuries-old Byzantine frescoes. · Avanos Pottery Town & Red River: Visit Avanos, famous for its red-clay pottery tradition dating back to ancient times. Take a relaxed walk across the suspension bridge over the Kızılırmak River. · Sunset at Göreme Sunset Viewpoint: End my day watching the valley glow as the sun sets over the fairy chimneys. Day 3: Valley Hopping · Hot Air Balloons at Love Valley: Experience the unforgettable spectacle of hundreds of colorful hot air balloons rising over Love Valley at dawn. · Uçhisar Castle: The highest natural rock citadel in Cappadocia. · Pigeon Valley: A scenic valley named after the thousands of small pigeon houses carved into the soft volcanic tuff cliffs over centuries. · Cavusin: Spend the afternoon hiking through valleys painted in distinctive pinkish rock hues and catching sunset near the historic village of Cavusin. Day 4: Cappadocia to Antalya · Morning Stroll & Scenic Drive: Enjoy a peaceful final morning taking photos around Cavusin before hopping on an intercity bus bound for the Mediterranean coast. · Arrive in Antalya: Settle into your hotel in Antalya. Day 5: Ancient Marvels & Flight to Istanbul · Perge Ancient: Explore the impressive ancient ruins of Perge. · Kaleiçi Old Town & Harbor: Walk through picturesque cobblestone streets lined with Ottoman-era houses leading down to the lively ancient harbor. · Fly to Istanbul: Catch an evening flight to Istanbul and check in hotel. Day 6: Istanbul – Crossing Continents · Historic Sultanahmet: Marvel at Istanbul’s world-famous architectural masterpieces, including the majestic Blue Mosque, the historic Hagia Sophia and Galata Tower · Bosphorus Ferry Sunset Ride: Take a scenic ferry ride across the Bosphorus Strait, watching seagulls soar past as you cruise between Europe and Asia under the setting sun. Day 7: Grand Bazaar & Farewell · Grand Bazaar & Balat Neighborhood: Wander through the vibrant aisles of the Grand Bazaar for spices and Turkish delights, then stroll through Balat’s colorful historic streets for lovely photos. · Heading Home at afternoon. Traveler Tips & Helpful Advice 1. E-Visa Caution: Getting a Turkish visa is pretty straightforward nowadays since you can apply online yourself. Just make sure you are using the official government portal, as there are many third-party website copies that look similar to the real one. 2. Currency Exchange: · If you have time in Istanbul, head to the Grand Bazaar - the exchange booths inside offer some of the best rates in the country. Keep in mind that the Grand Bazaar is closed on Sundays. · If you are flying straight to Cappadocia without visiting central Istanbul first, look for a PTT (the official post office). They cap exchanges at $300 USD per transaction and the rate isn't quite as competitive as the Grand Bazaar, but it is still significantly better than airport exchange counters. 3. Accommodation Choice: · In Cappadocia, I personally prefer staying in a standard room over a traditional cave hotel, as cave rooms can feel a bit damp and carry a faint smell of mortar or stone dust. · In Istanbul, I recommend booking a stay in the Sultanahmet area - it’s clean, charming, and super convenient for walking to major sights. 4. Catching the Balloons: If your schedule allows, try to stay in Cappadocia for at least 3 full days. Hot air balloon flights are weather-dependent and get canceled easily due to wind, so extra buffer days give you the best shot at flying or getting those iconic sunrise photos. 5. Getting Around: Grab an Istanbulkart as soon as you land in Istanbul - it makes hopping on metros, trams, and ferries effortless and budget-friendly. #hotairballoon #istanbul #antalya #cappadocia #travel2026 #turkey #turkiye

Save this route for an independent Cappadocia trip. Staying one night in Çavuşin made Cinnes Vadisi, Paşabağı and Zelve easier to combine, while two nights in Göreme worked well for the balloon flight, open-air museum, ATV tour and underground cities. 📍 DAY 1: ÇAVUŞIN, AVANOS & ROSE VALLEY After the night bus, I left my luggage at Artonin Cappadocia and walked through Cinnes Vadisi. Then I visited Avanos for its riverside promenade, old streets and a pottery-wheel workshop. After checking in, I explored Old Çavuşin and Çavuşin Castle, walked through part of Rose Valley and climbed to a viewpoint for sunset. 🎈 DAY 2: BALLOONS, PAŞABAĞ, ZELVE & ATV I watched the balloons at sunrise from Çavuşin. After breakfast, I visited Paşabağı and Zelve Open Air Museum, then moved to Göreme and checked into Premium Cappadocia. In the evening, I joined a two-hour ATV tour through Love Valley to a sunset viewpoint. The bathtub in my room was especially welcome after the dusty ride. 🌄 DAY 3: BALLOON FLIGHT, MUSEUM & TERRACES My birthday began with a hot-air-balloon flight. I rested at the hotel afterwards and visited Göreme Open Air Museum later in the day. Göreme has many cafés and restaurants with terraces overlooking the rock houses. I chose Termessos Terrace Cafe for a relaxed evening. 🕳️ DAY 4: UNDERGROUND CITIES & UÇHİSAR I travelled through Nevşehir to Derinkuyu and Kaymaklı and visited both underground cities in one day. Then I continued to Uçhisar for Pigeon Valley, the old streets and Uçhisar Castle at sunset. Several foxes appeared on the rocky slope after dark. Before returning to Göreme, I stopped at Cafe Yıldız, then left Cappadocia by night bus. 🚌 PRACTICAL TIP Group places by area and keep one slower day after the balloon flight. Derinkuyu and Kaymaklı can be combined in one day using public transport. #myitinerary #traveltips #solotravel #thingstodo #cappadocia #turkey

If you are planning a trip to Cappadocia, I highly recommend staying for at least two nights because every morning can be completely different, especially when it comes to the hot air balloons. For our first night, we stayed in Göreme at Aydınlı Cave Hotel because we had booked a hot air balloon flight for the following morning. The hotel had a more rustic and authentic cave-style atmosphere, with stone walls and a slightly raw, traditional feeling. The room was comfortable and full of character, making it a memorable place to stay in Göreme. Unfortunately, our balloon flight was cancelled because of bad weather. We were very disappointed at first because riding a hot air balloon in Cappadocia had always been one of our dreams. However, balloon flights depend heavily on wind and weather conditions, so cancellations can happen even when the sky does not look too bad. The next day, we moved to Azure Cave Suites in Çavuşin Village. We tried to book another balloon flight, but unfortunately all the seats for the following morning were already full, so we could only watch the balloons from the hotel. Azure Cave Suites had a completely different atmosphere from our first hotel. It felt brighter, cuter, and more colorful. The hotel is located high on the hillside, so the view was absolutely beautiful. The breakfast room was on the upper level, where we could enjoy the scenery while eating. The breakfast itself was presented in such a lovely and colorful way, which made the morning feel even more special. We also met a very cute cat at the hotel, which made the stay even more memorable for us. Early the next morning, we walked outside and suddenly saw so many colorful balloons rising into the sky. Even though we could not ride in one, the view was still breathtaking. The balloons floated slowly above the valleys, with the ancient village of Çavuşin standing beautifully in the background. Because Azure Cave Suites is located quite high up, we did not have to travel anywhere to enjoy the view. We simply stepped outside the hotel and watched the balloons fill the sky. It was peaceful, beautiful, and one of those moments that photographs can never fully capture. During the daytime, we also explored Çavuşin Village itself. The village is known for its ancient cave houses, rock formations, and old churches carved into the cliffs. It felt quieter and less crowded than Göreme, which made walking around very enjoyable. We visited Cappadocia in April, when the weather was cool and comfortable for sightseeing. However, spring weather can be unpredictable, so I recommend staying for at least two or three mornings if riding a hot air balloon is very important to you. In the end, even though our balloon flight was cancelled and we could not book another one, watching the balloons rise above Çavuşin from Azure Cave Suites became one of the most beautiful memories of our trip. Sometimes, even when your original plan does not work out, Cappadocia still finds another way to surprise you. #turkiye #cappadocia #cappadociavibes #çavuşin #itinerarycheck

Çavuşin Kalesi is one of the most dramatic places to understand old Cappadocia. It is called a “castle,” but it is not a classic fortress with towers. It is the upper part of old Çavuşin village — a huge volcanic rock settlement carved directly into the cliff. 🏰 WHAT THIS PLACE WAS For centuries, people lived inside this soft Cappadocian rock. The cliff had cave homes, storage rooms, passages, churches and small carved spaces on different levels. From below, it looks like a honeycomb wall; from inside, you can see how village life was built into the stone. ⛪ HISTORICAL FACTS Çavuşin had a mixed population until the early 20th century, including Orthodox Christian families. One of the most important sites here is the Church of St. John the Baptist, often described as one of the oldest and largest rock-cut churches in Cappadocia, dating to around the 5th–early 6th century. 🪨 WHY IT WAS ABANDONED The old cliff-side settlement became unsafe because of erosion, rockfalls and collapses. People were eventually moved from the old cave houses to safer modern homes, and the upper village became the abandoned rock settlement you see today. 👀 WHAT YOU SEE NOW The climb takes you past cave openings, old rooms, broken stone walls, arches and natural “windows” overlooking Çavuşin village. From the top, you get wide views of the valleys, fairy chimneys, the village below and the Cappadocia landscape. 🥾 GOOD TO KNOW The route is not long, but it is uneven, dusty and rocky in places. Wear proper shoes, avoid unstable openings and do not climb where the rock looks fragile. Plan around 45–60 minutes for the climb, photos and views. ✨ MY IMPRESSION Çavuşin Kalesi felt raw, historic and more atmospheric than many polished Cappadocia stops. It shows Cappadocia not only as a landscape of balloons and valleys, but as a place where people actually lived inside the rock. #traveltips #çavuşin #naturalwonders #thingstodo #cappadocia #turkey

Hidden on the slopes of Göreme, this cave guesthouse is truly legendary✨ Just an hour's drive from Kayseri Airport, with airport pickup available by advance reservation, so you don't have to worry about a thing upon arrival. The town is small, within walking distance to the Open Air Museum, and close to the starting points for hiking in Rose Valley and Red Valley—super convenient for exploring on foot. The entire house is an authentic natural cave, with rock walls featuring gentle natural curves. The rooms maintain a natural constant temperature, warm in winter and cool in summer, making your stay especially comfortable. In the early morning, lean against the arched stone window and watch hundreds of hot air balloons slowly rise and fill the sky—far more breathtaking in real life than any filter! The rooftop terrace faces the whole of Göreme, where at dusk warm light spreads over the ochre rooftops, and the evening breeze is soft and pleasant. The courtyard is planted with fig trees and various flowers and plants; just sitting quietly here is a romance unique to Cappadocia.

Who can resist waking up in a cave hotel in Cappadocia, opening the terrace door to a sky full of hot air balloons? Turkey truly has romance engraved in its DNA, from the Eurasian blend of Istanbul to the lunar landscapes of Cappadocia, and the jelly-like Mediterranean Sea—every place is intoxicating. After visa-free access, the joy of spontaneous travel is something only a few understand. · -- 🎈 Hot Air Balloon Flight The hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, costing about 800-1500 CNY per person. We recommend the big companies Royal and Butterfly for safety and reliability. Wake up around 4 a.m., depart before dawn, watch the balloons inflate and take off one by one. When the sun peeks over the ridge, hundreds of balloons bathe in golden light simultaneously. The awe of this moment makes the early wake-up completely worth it. After landing, there’s a champagne celebration and a certificate is awarded. Remember to wear bright colors for photos—red, yellow, and white all look great. If your first day is canceled due to weather, don’t be discouraged; it’s best to reserve two nights so you have another chance to fly. · -- 🪂 Paragliding Flight Paragliding in Fethiye is definitely a game for the brave, costing about 874 CNY per person. We recommend Reaction company. You leap from Baba Mountain at 2000 meters, and the instructor will guide you soaring over the Dead Sea. The water is so clear you can see coral 30 meters deep, and the wind whistles past your ears. This feeling of freedom is exhilarating. Be sure to buy the video; the instructor will film you from various angles and take 360-degree panoramic photos. Watching them later will bring back wonderful memories. You land right on the Dead Sea beach, where you can immediately play in the water. The jelly-like sea colors are breathtakingly beautiful. · -- 🌉 Istanbul: The City of Two Continents Istanbul is the only city in the world that spans both Europe and Asia. The Hagia Sophia has nearly 1,500 years of history, with a dome that is truly awe-inspiring. The Blue Mosque has over 20,000 blue glazed tiles and 260 windows; when sunlight streams in, the entire hall is bathed in blue light and shadow. The Basilica Cistern, a filming location for "The Da Vinci Code," has 336 stone columns and two Medusa head bases, creating a mysterious atmosphere. Topkapi Palace was the Ottoman imperial palace; the harem area is worth a visit to understand the Sultan’s life. The Grand Bazaar has over 4,000 shops selling carpets, spices, and lamps—bargaining to half the price is the norm. A Bosphorus Strait cruise is a must. Experience standing with one foot in Europe and the other in Asia. The European side features red-roofed old town, while the Asian side is a fishing village. When the ferry crosses the midline of the strait, your phone signal switches from European roaming to Asian roaming—this unique feeling only happens here. · -- 🚗 D400 Coastal Highway The D400 highway is rated by National Geographic as one of the world’s top ten most beautiful coastal roads. Group Tour Hot Air Balloon Beautiful Scenery 1️⃣ Hot Air Balloons ❤️ The peak season for hot air ballooning runs from early April to late November. There are two best places on Earth for hot air balloon rides: one is Kenya, and the other is Cappadocia, Turkey. Named one of the Top 10 Beautiful Landscapes by National Geographic, it's a must-do, once-in-a-lifetime experience that is truly unforgettable! Hot air balloons are very safe; though the initial ascent is a bit thrilling and scary, you quickly get used to it once you're in the air~ 2️⃣ Cappadocia 🧡 Pasabag, Camel Rock... Cappadocia boasts some of the world's most spectacular weathered landscapes. With towering, steep rock formations shaped like camels, pillars, and cones, it is famous for its "Fairy Chimneys." The perk of joining a group tour is being able to comfortably reach all these must-see spots by tour bus. Since the climate is quite dry and hot, riding a tour bus is a very comfortable choice~ 3️⃣ Taksim Square 💛 Known as the Champs-Élysées of Istanbul ~ Taksim Square, which is also Turkey's Istiklal Avenue, allows you to admire the eclectic mix of Rococo and Baroque architecture on both sides. Weaving through the iconic red vintage trams really gives you a European vibe. Along the street, there are at least hundreds of various Turkish shops, offering everything from trendy European brands to affordable Turkish goods. The famous Turkish bath towels are also souvenirs definitely worth buying~ 4️⃣ Kızılkayalar Taksim 💚 Authentic Turkish shawarma, Islak (wet) burgers, and wraps! Personally, I think the wet burger is quite tasty. The sauce is absolutely delicious, and the price is very affordable, making it totally worth a try. The portions are small, making them perfect as a light snack between meals. 5️⃣ Ancient Roman Underground Cistern 🩵 The Basilica Cistern features huge vaults supported by beautiful, uniquely shaped giant stone pillars. Its magnificent scale makes it look just like an underground palace. It was one of the attractions I wanted to visit the most in Turkey. Purely based on personal preference, I found the lighting down there to be incredibly spectacular and gorgeous. The white lights are especially stunning, while the other colored lights can look a bit spooky~ 6️⃣ Afternoon Tea at The Peninsula Istanbul (5-Star) 💙 A complimentary Peninsula Hotel afternoon tea was included by our travel agency. While enjoying our treats, I noticed that mostly formally dressed locals visit for the hotel's afternoon tea. Although the itinerary was a bit rushed, it was still a lovely experience. Afterward, we hopped directly onto a cruise ship at the hotel's private pier to take in the beautiful coastal scenery of Istanbul. Feeding bread to the seagulls flying alongside the boat made for a perfectly relaxing afternoon. 7️⃣ Migros 💜 Migros (Migros Türk) is one of the largest and most ubiquitous supermarket chains in Turkey. Here, you can stock up on famous Turkish chocolates as souvenirs, and grabbing some ice cream or personal items is also a great idea. However, prices at some highway rest stops are quite cheap too, so it's always good to compare prices before making a purchase.

Love Valley is known for its tall, unusual rock formations. It’s one of the most photographed landscapes in Cappadocia. 3️⃣ Why Visit? 🪨 Unique tall fairy chimneys 📸 Iconic photo spot 🚶 Easy walking trail 🌅 Great sunrise location 4️⃣ What to Expect 🌄 Wide valley views 🥾 Gentle hiking terrain 🎈 Balloon backdrop 5️⃣ Best Time 🌅 Sunrise 🌸 Mild seasons 6️⃣ Tips 👟 Dusty paths 💧 Limited shade 📷 Drone shots popular (check rules) 7️⃣ Quick Info 📍 Near Göreme & Uçhisar 🎟️ Free access 8️⃣ Why Travelers Love It It’s playful, dramatic, and uniquely Cappadocian.

Avanos, famous for its pottery, is easily accessible from Göreme using public transportation during your trip to Cappadocia. While taxis are available, they tend to be quite expensive. The most popular option among travelers is the Dolmuş (minibus). Dolmuş is surprisingly easy to find and offers affordable fares, making it a cost-effective way to travel. 📍 Location & Directions · Departure: Göreme Bus Stop · Location: Near the area with many ATMs behind the Göreme Bus Terminal · Destination: Avanos At the bus stop, you’ll find a timetable labeled AVANOS / ÇAVUŞİN. Simply board the minibus with AVANOS written on the front. ⏰ Operating Hours Dolmuş runs approximately every hour. Example: 08. 15 09. 15 10. 15 11. 15 12. 15 13. 15 14. 15 15. 15 16. 15 17. 15 18. 15 19. 15 (last bus) ※ Actual times may vary depending on local conditions, so it’s best to confirm on-site. 💰 Cost · One-way fare: 70 lira (as of 2026 per person) · Much cheaper than taking a taxi. 🔄 Returning to Göreme From the bus stop opposite where you alight in Avanos, take the Dolmuş heading back to Göreme. ⚠️ The last bus usually departs around 7 PM, so staying too late may make it difficult to return. 💡 Travel Tips · The bus stop is easy to find near the ATMs in Göreme’s center. · If the seats fill up, the bus may depart immediately, so it’s better to arrive a bit early. · Prepare cash (lira) in advance for convenience.

#JanuaryDestinations2026 In the dreamlike landscape of Cappadocia, Turkey, Camel Rock is undoubtedly the most iconic and playful landmark. Located in the famous Devrent Valley, also known as the "Valley of Imagination." Here, there are no churches or Roman castles, only masterpieces sculpted by nature's artistry. 🏜️ Nature's Playful Mischief: The Origin of Camel Rock Like other parts of Cappadocia, Camel Rock's formation is a geological spectacle spanning millions of years. Composition: Primarily composed of soft tuff, overlaid with harder basalt or limestone. Craftsmanship: Through years of wind, rain, and intense temperature erosion, the rock has been sculpted into its unique shape. Miracle: Most astonishingly, the rock's shape almost perfectly replicates the silhouette of a camel, from its prominent humps and slender neck to its slightly raised head—a remarkably lifelike depiction. Why is it called "Valley of Imagination"? Devrit Canyon, where Camel Rock is located, is quite different from other attractions (such as the Göreme Open Air Museum). It bears almost no trace of human intervention and is purely famous for its bizarre rock formations. Beyond the famous Camel Rock itself, if you use your imagination, you can see shapes resembling the Virgin Mary, Napoleon's hat, or various kissing birds, dolphins, and rabbits. Changing Colors: Depending on the angle of the sunlight, the rocks display a range of colors from pale pink to deep ochre, with the most captivating view at sunset. Best Viewpoint: The attraction is located right next to the road, with a designated viewing platform. To protect the rocks, a fence has been erected around Camel Rock; please avoid climbing as climbing is the best way to appreciate its beauty. Stop Time: A 15-30 minute stop is recommended for taking photos. This is a classic stop on the "Red Tour." Equipment: Although the walking distance is short, the surface is gravelly and dry. It is recommended to wear non-slip hiking shoes and apply sunscreen.

Nestled along the banks of the Red River in Cappadocia, Turkey, lies a romantic and melancholic corner known as Avanos Poets Street (Şairler Sokağı). This is not just a street; it is a reflection of the soul of Turkish literature and the most captivating symbol of the artistic town of Avanos. 🏛️ The Fusion of Literature and Pottery Avanos is renowned worldwide for its red pottery craftsmanship, but Poets Street reveals another side of this town: its profound inner beauty. Open-Air Museum: The street is lined with busts of famous Turkish poets, engraved with their biographies and representative works. Walking Experience: Away from the hustle and bustle of tourist groups, this cobblestone path offers a quiet retreat where you can feel as if you're engaging in a timeless dialogue with these great souls as you pass their statues. 🖋️ A Journey into the Soul of Turkey This street commemorates several figures who have profoundly influenced Turkish culture, such as: Nâzım Hikmet: Turkey's greatest modern poet, whose verses are filled with love for freedom and his homeland. Aşık Veysel: A renowned blind folk poet whose works deeply explore the connection between people and the land. "I am walking on a long and narrow road, traveling day and night." -- Aşık Veysel 🛶 Unique Geographic Location Poets Street is located right next to the Red River (Kızılırmak). After admiring the poets' statues, you can head to the riverside: Black Swans and Ducks: Elegant swans often glide across the river. Swinging Bridge (Sallanan Köprü): Nearby is a famous wooden suspension bridge that adds a touch of fun with its gentle sway. Sunset Views: At dusk, the setting sun bathes the Red River and Poets Street in golden-red hues, making it a paradise for photography enthusiasts. Complementary Activities: After exploring Poets Street, visit the nearby pottery workshops to try your hand at crafting a red clay piece, experiencing the transition from literary art to tactile art. This street reminds every visitor that Cappadocia is not just about surreal rock formations and hot air balloons; it also carries a rich literary heritage and humanistic spirit.

Come to Turkey to experience the freedom of hot air ballooning! Cappadocia is absolutely stunning 🎈 The night before, I was worried the weather wouldn’t be good enough to fly, but at dawn the next day, seeing the sky filled with hot air balloons slowly rising made me feel like my life was complete ✨ 📍Goreme Town This is the main base for hot air balloon experiences. It’s recommended to stay at least two nights to increase your chances of flying. We chose Butterfly Balloons company, and their 5 AM pick-up service was very punctual. Once airborne, you can see the entire surreal landscape of Cappadocia. The pilot thoughtfully rotates the basket to ensure everyone can capture the beautiful scenery. 📍Uchisar Castle After landing the hot air balloon, you can visit this high vantage point. Not only can you overlook all of Goreme, but you can also see the full view of Rose Valley. The castle itself is a cave fortress carved into the rock, perfect for taking Instagram-worthy photos. 📍Devrent Valley Also known as Camel Valley, the rock formations here are incredibly unique! At sunset, the light is very gentle, and the rock pillars turn pink. Many couples choose this spot for proposals. 💡Useful Tips: 1. Book the hot air balloon at least 3 days in advance! We almost missed out. 2. It’s very cold at dawn, so bring a thick jacket but don’t dress too bulky. 3. The first flight at sunrise is the most beautiful, but the second flight is about 1/3 cheaper. 4. There is a champagne celebration after landing, so remember to keep some cash for tips. 🏨 Accommodation Recommendation: The Museum Hotel is absolutely amazing! The cave pool faces the hot air balloon launch site. While having breakfast on the terrace, hundreds of hot air balloons floated right overhead—this experience is truly unforgettable. 🍴 Must-Try Food: You must try the pot-cooked beef! The stew at Topdeck Cave Restaurant is incredible. Remember to reserve a window seat in advance.
