China is an underrated heaven for great food. But I’m not gonna rank Chinese food by how delicious they are. Coz there are way too many different types of food, and each of them has an entirely different theme of flavour. There are simply no way to compare it as a whole. But what I can do is recommend my Top 5 LESS KNOWN but absolutely DELICIOUS plus AFFORDABLE food. One of the most memorable experiences in Yunnan was going mushroom picking in the forests around Dali. If you're looking for a destination where time seems to move a little slower, Dali is hard to beat. Mornings begin with fresh mountain air and quiet walks along Erhai Lake, where the water reflects the sky like a mirror. The atmosphere is calm, relaxed, and far less hectic than many other tourist hotspots in China. One of Dali's biggest advantages is its climate. Thanks to its elevation, temperatures stay comfortable throughout most of the year—rarely too hot in summer and rarely too cold in winter. It's ideal for long afternoons in lakeside cafés, cycling along the shore, or simply enjoying the view. ☕ Dali also offers a wide range of beautiful boutique hotels and lakeside resorts. Dali has a unique infrastructure, lots of cool cafes with delicious food! There are multiple points of interests such as erhai lake, hot springs and hiking trails, and of course the ancient city. It’s easy to navigate here cos you can choose what do you like and then use e scooter, e bike or walk thanks to Alipay app.

Avoid the crowds and enjoy this rustic and profound atmosphere all to yourself—totally worth it~ The location is right at the Dali Daici Cen Tower and Jinlong Temple Pagoda. Besides these two, the surrounding area also includes the Chaoyi Ruins (remnants of the Ming Dynasty ancient city walls), the Changchun Palace Ruins (imperial palace ruins from the Sui and Tang Dynasties), and the most famous Fengtuyi Granary (a Qing Dynasty grain storage building). · 💫【Highlights】 Originally came for the Fengtuyi Granary, but was unexpectedly amazed by the ancient building cluster just across the street at Cen Tower and the ancient pagoda. This kind of combination is very rare throughout Shaanxi (Photo 2 shows the entire group of ancient buildings: Fengtuyi Granary in the front, Cen Tower behind, and Jinlong Temple Pagoda on the far right). The terrain is clear at a glance; this cluster sits at the highest point, which in ancient times was definitely a key spot controlling east-west traffic. No wonder relics from various dynasties are so concentrated here. It is said this highland was once a terrace formed by the Yellow River’s erosion, but later the river shifted further east. Standing here, you can almost feel the vicissitudes of history. · 📝【Ancient Architecture Facts】 The Daici Cen Tower is a Ming Dynasty Yue Temple opera stage. According to the Qing Qianlong edition of the Tongzhou Prefecture Gazetteer: “Repaired in the first year of Tang’s Zhenguan era (627), and in the eighth year of Song’s Zhenghe era (1118) was bestowed the Chongyou Temple.” In the sixth year of Ming’s Longqing era (1572), a temple was added, and a stone stele from the fourth year of Ming’s Chongzhen era (1631) records the repair of the opera stage. Only the Cen Tower remains of Daici, facing south with two stories, double eaves, and a three-drop water xieshan roof covered with green glazed tiles, standing 17.5 meters tall with exquisitely detailed architecture.
