I parked at Maroon Lake Scenic Turnout (the lower lot, not the overflow up the road) at 6:40 am on a late August weekday and still paid the $10 RFTA shuttle reservation fee because private cars are banned from 8 am–5 pm late May through early October. You either arrive before 8 or you ride the shuttle from Aspen Highlands Base Village, which is $16 round trip, card only, and books out on weekends. From the turnout the trail goes 1.5 miles around Maroon Lake (do this part fast, it is crowded and flat), then climbs steadily 3.5 miles one way to Crater Lake, 220 m gain, on a rocky tread that gets rougher the higher you go. Total 10 km return, 3–3.5 hours with photo stops. Crater Lake itself sits in a glacial cirque directly under the Bells, but it is shallow and often reflects better from the moraine on the east side than from the shoreline. I ate lunch at the outlet and watched a marmot steal a granola bar from a guy who left his pack open—classic mistake, zip everything. Altitude is the quiet problem: the trailhead is 2920 m, Crater Lake is 3140 m, and if you drove up from Denver (1600 m) same morning you will feel it. ❄️ This Thanksgiving, I came to Denver, Colorado in the western US, traveling off-season because it’s colder here. But for friends who want to see snow, this place is just perfect! There’s more than just skiing! Today, I’ll introduce a winter guide for Rocky Mountain National Park. You can hike or drive to enjoy the scenery—it's a beautiful ice and snow world. Here’s a practical guide for everyone. ❄️ Rocky Mountain National Park is located in northern Colorado, about 2 hours from Denver. Although it lacks the green of summer and the gold of autumn, winter brings white snow, snowy mountains, and frozen lakes, all beautifully dressed in silver and white, offering a completely different kind of wonder and beauty! Plus, no reservation is needed in winter; you can just go. It’s not crowded. The main park roads are open, but Ridge Trail Road is closed. Road conditions are good, and snow chains are not needed. Hurry and go see it! ❄️ You can drive directly to Bear Lake. Parking is limited but spots usually open within half an hour. From here, there are several hiking trails. The popular one is Dream Lake Trail, which is 2 miles long and relatively easy, suitable for visitors of all ages. Continuing further leads to Emerald Lake, 3.6 miles long, with fewer people and beautiful scenery. ❄️ The trail from Bear Lake to Dream Lake is relatively flat with some small hills. The entire path is covered with snow, but there’s little ice, so microspikes aren’t necessary, though I highly recommend bringing them, especially for downhill sections to protect yourself from slipping. Along the way, three lakes—Nymph Lake and Dream Lake—are frozen and you can walk on them. It’s very beautiful! ❄️ Emerald Lake is of moderate difficulty. The latter half is steeper with snow and ice, making it a bit slippery. Microspikes or crampons are recommended. The view at the end is stunning, with snow falling. Walking on the ice and seeing the snowy mountain scenery up close is amazing. ❄️ Sprague Lake is accessible by car. It’s a small, modest lake. ❄️ Many Parks Curve Overlook is a high point reachable by car, offering a great view overlooking the park and snowy mountains. Definitely worth a visit. ❄️ Sheep Lakes ❄️ Lake Estes: There’s a small town outside the park where you can stay, see the lake, and find many restaurants.

The Legendary Stage of Red Rocks Amphitheater Red Rocks Amphitheater feels like a place where the land itself decides to host a concert. Those massive sandstone walls rise on both sides, shaping the sound so naturally that every beat seems to echo straight from the rock. When the music starts, the whole amphitheater almost breathes with it—lights bouncing off the cliffs, the sky stretching endlessly above, and a calm mountain breeze carrying the energy through the crowd. It’s the kind of place where nature becomes part of the performance. Getting there is part of the experience too. From Denver, the drive is simple—following Highway 93 or C-470 until the road begins weaving into the foothills. The moment the red rocks appear, towering quietly above the hillside, it feels like approaching something ancient and alive. Parking lots wrap around the venue, and the short walk up the winding paths leads straight into that open-air bowl of stone and sky. By the time the first note hits, the journey already feels worth it.

Breckenridge: A Mountain Moment That Stays With You Breckenridge feels like a place where a cozy town and a big mountain meet perfectly. The streets have that old-Colorado charm—wooden shops, warm cafés, and a friendly buzz that makes the whole place feel alive. Just above it, the ski resort spreads across wide, snowy slopes that offer everything from easy glides to fast, thrilling runs. The lifts carry you into views that look like layers of white peaks stretching forever. Getting there is simple and scenic. From Denver, the drive follows I-70 west through the mountains, then Highway 9 straight into town. As the road climbs and the air turns crisp, Breckenridge appears tucked at the base of the Tenmile Range—a small town with big mountain energy.
