Exceptional Stay at Universal Hotel Romántica
Hotel: There are five Universal hotels situated close to each other in this area. My wife and I chose the Universal Hotel Romántica for a three-week stay. Although we arrived before the official check-in time, our luggage was safely stored, allowing us to explore until check-in started at 2pm. There was a bit of a queue at that time, which was expected. The receptionists, Mercedes and Joel, were very pleasant and always made us feel welcome when we entered or left the building. The main bar had an expansive layout overlooking the sea, providing a relaxing environment. It also hosted entertainment during the evenings. The modern dining area, complete with pool and sea views, was thoughtfully arranged. The waitstaff—Andrea, Judit, Romina, Encarni, Enrique, Samuel, Iker, Xisca, and Mohamed—worked tirelessly and displayed great friendliness. Nicola, our Jet2 representative, was around most days and offered excellent support.
The rooftop bar on the 7th floor provided stunning sea and area views, and the hotel’s pool overlooked the sea as well. Sun loungers by the pool could be rented, while free loungers were available near the children’s water play area next to the hotel. A convenient book swap corner allowed guests to exchange books during their stay. The General Manager, Felicitas, and Assistant Manager, Tomeu, were always available, often seen interacting with guests or tackling hotel tasks. Felicitas made a thoughtful gesture by greeting us personally, shaking our hands, and offering assistance for any concerns upon our arrival. For my wife’s birthday, the hotel surprised her with a complimentary bottle of cava and a decorative towel heart with a heartfelt message on the bed—extremely thoughtful and memorable. Your stay here is bound to be delightful, and we can't wait to return.
Food: We opted for half-board, enjoying included breakfast and dinner. Breakfast ran from 7:45am to 10:15am, while dinner was served between 6:30pm and 9pm. Breakfast featured full cooked options, fruit, pastries, yogurts, cereals, and assorted breads. The drinks selection included flavorful juices—orange, apple, pineapple, and multi-fruit—served from machines, along with high-quality coffee and tea offerings from coffee machines and tea bags. Dinner presented a wide array of dishes, with a station preparing fresh omelets and pancakes at breakfast, and meat during dinner, usually handled by Josie or Antonio. They were not only skilled but also very cordial and industrious. A free glass of cava was a cool perk on Friday mornings during breakfast. While drinks were not provided in the room, we brought our own coffee, tea, sweetener, mugs, and cleaning cloth. A glass carafe in the room could be filled with filtered water from machines available on every floor, eliminating the need to purchase water during the day. We had requested a kettle prior to our arrival, and it was readily available when we checked in. Milk purchased from nearby supermarkets was conveniently stored in the room's small fridge.
Location: Situated in Colònia de Sant Jordi on Mallorca island, the hotel isn’t directly on a beach but is surrounded by several beaches within walking distance. On one side, you’ll find Estanys Beach connecting to the expansive Es Trenc Beach, while on the other side are various coves and beaches. A coastal path leads to the sa Puntassa lighthouse and further on to the port and marina, with Es Port Beach transitioning into Es Dolç Beach. Northward lies Ses Salines town, an 8-mile round trip from the hotel, connected by a good walkway along the main road. Near the hotel, there’s a salt works site and two supermarkets—Eroski City and Miquel—ideal for purchasing room essentials. Restrooms near the port’s tourist information office were available but had inconvenient closing times. Bars and restaurants in the area offered convenient options for drinks and restroom use. A bus stop on the main road provided routes to Campos and Santanyí for further exploration. Travelers to Palma could connect via Campos, although having visited Palma previously, we stayed local instead. We experienced mosquito bites, so bringing insect repellents and plug-ins would be advisable.
Room: Our standard double room on the 6th floor was clean, modern, and roomy, with very comfortable beds. Its private balcony overlooked the dragon pool, extending a view of the sea to the right, which we found pleasant. Guests seeking more direct sunlight might need to book a sea-view room. Amenities included a small fridge, UK television channels, and free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, including the room. Complimentary toiletries—shower gel, conditioner, hand soap—were provided along with a safe. Antonia, who cleaned our room daily, replaced towels and maintained a friendly demeanor. Sheets were changed every three days. The room featured a modern shower, built-in wardrobe, desk with chairs, and mirrors (full-length, makeup, and bathroom). Numerous plug points were available along with a hairdryer. A small suggestion for improvement would be providing door signs for cleaning requests to aid housekeeping.
Weather: The weather was fantastic for this season, raining only once during our three-week stay. Most days were sunny, averaging 18°C, but felt warmer under direct sunlight.
This was an outstanding hotel experience not to be missed!
