#2月好地方2025 The United States has MOMA and Tasmania has MONA. The Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) is located near the Moorilla Winery in the suburbs of Hobart. It houses more than 400 fine works of art from the museum's founder, David Walsh. It is also the location of the controversial equal rights art exhibition and installation "Ladies' Lounge". I am continuously impacted by works of art and innovative thinking, and absorb a lot of new artistic nutrients. I feel so satisfied! MONA is excellent, with exhibits both indoors and outdoors. It was beyond expectation. Love the out of frame setting and special presentation of it...like choosing an adventure trip. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. If you are interested in art, you should definitely take some time to visit the Museum of Old and New Art!

Many people traveling to Australia keep their eyes locked on Sydney and Melbourne, quietly overlooking Hobart in Tasmania 🏛️. As Australia's southernmost capital, it blends colonial history, wild forests, and harbor-side dining, making it a dream destination for travelers who love discovering hidden gems! 💫 🏔️ Outdoor hiking and photography spots Mount Wellington is the soul of Hobart. We recommend a light hike along the Organ Pipes Track, where you can see neatly arranged basalt columns and wild bushland along the way 🌿. Once you reach the summit, the entire city, the Derwent River, and the distant bay are all beneath your feet! The "blue hour" is the golden time for photography; as the sea of clouds rolls over the mountain and city lights begin to twinkle, every shot looks like a scene from a movie 🎬. If you have extra time, you can take a boat to Bruny Island, hike along the coastal boardwalk, and face the surging waves of the Southern Ocean 🌊. If you're lucky, you might even encounter dolphins and seabirds! 🦞 Foodie finds and city strolls Don't miss the Salamanca Market on Saturdays! Over 300 stalls are filled with local fresh produce, handmade jewelry, and baked goods 🥐. Fresh Tasmanian oysters, smoked cheese, and berry desserts are all must-try specialties! Pick up some freshly shucked oysters at the market, squeeze on some lemon juice, and slurp them down—the freshness will make your taste buds sing ✨. The harbor-side restaurants specialize in fresh-caught seafood; buttered lobster paired with lemon-drizzled oysters makes every bite dance on your palate 💃. After exploring the market, take a stroll along the Battery Point Sculpture Trail. You'll see well-preserved Georgian-style stone houses and sculptures lined up along the coastline, allowing you to learn about Hobart's colonial past as you walk 📜. For those who love the unconventional, head to the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA); the exhibits there will definitely challenge your conventional perceptions 🤯! ✨ Travel tips Best time to visit: Summer in the Southern Hemisphere (December to February). The climate is mild, making it perfect for outdoor hiking ☀️. Transportation: The city center is small, but renting a car is more convenient for trips to Mount Wellington and Bruny Island. You'll need a vehicle ferry for Bruny Island 🚗. What to wear: The mountain sea breeze is very strong! Even in summer, be sure to pack a windbreaker 🧥. Hobart lacks the hustle and bustle of big cities; the harbor, historic streets, and wilderness coexist in harmony here 🌿. Spend your morning exploring the market and eating seafood, your afternoon hiking in the mountains, and your evening waiting for the sunset at the summit. This relaxed yet wild travel experience is truly unique to Australia! If you are tired of the crowds in popular cities, this small southern town will offer you an unexpectedly healing journey 💙.

During my few days in Hobart, I slept in every morning. If I had to pick out the highlights of this relaxed and cozy trip, MONA and the Cascade Brewery at the foot of the mountain are definitely two places that perfectly capture both the visual and sensory experience. 🏛️ Stop 1: MONA (Museum of Old and New Art) — a "visual spectacle" in the Southern Hemisphere MONA is one of the premier private avant-garde art museums in the Southern Hemisphere and even the world. The founder behind it is a legendary mathematical genius who poured his extreme passion for art into this underground building, using subversive creativity to completely refresh the public's perception of contemporary art and dispel the bias that "Australia has no good art museums." · Anti-traditional underground cave: The entire museum is dug deep underground. It's massive, with multi-level structures embedded directly into the ancient sandstone. The unique staircase design connects the spaces, and as you walk through, every step reveals a new view, filled with the visual impact of avant-garde aesthetics—a true journey to the center of the earth. 🕵️‍♂️ · Curiosities: The exhibits are highly topical and avant-garde, ranging from ancient treasures that span time and space to contemporary avant-garde art. That deconstructed, futuristic red sports car has a unique industrial coolness, while the intricate images and installations—stunning from afar and complex up close—take avant-garde aesthetics to the extreme. The entire museum is packed with humor and artistic tension, making it an incredibly satisfying experience. 🚗 · High-tech interactive experience: Connect to the Wi-Fi upon entry and download the exclusive guide app. No boring paper brochures here; it automatically senses your location and provides in-depth commentary as you walk around. You can even mark your favorites as you go. 📱 Practical tips: · Admission: Tickets are A$39 when purchased on-site (credit card or mobile payment accepted; free for locals). 💳 · Transportation and parking: Driving is recommended. It's only a 20-minute drive from the city center, and there's a huge free parking lot at the museum entrance, saving you time and hassle. 🚗 · Ferry comparison: If you're willing to spend A$69 on a ferry package that includes the "ferry ticket + admission," that's an option. Arriving by water is certainly ceremonial, but you'll likely face long lines on the return trip. By comparison, driving offers maximum freedom and saves on transportation costs. ⛴️ · Attire and mindset: The underground space is cool, so be sure to bring a windbreaker. Before viewing the various avant-garde art installations, just set your visual and inspiration receptors to their most relaxed state. 🧥 🍻 Stop 2: Cascade Brewery — a tipsy utopia at the foot of the mountain · History and stunning scenery: This is the oldest operating brewery in Tasmania. The main building is a historic Gothic Revival sandstone structure that has weathered the years, set against the backdrop of the majestic Mount Wellington. The massive private garden is lush with trees and has a distinct British feel. Sitting there in the summer, drinking freshly brewed draft beer, is incredibly refreshing. 🌲 · Limited-time joy and hearty food: I specifically chose to go on a Thursday and happened to catch a special beer promotion, which doubled the fun. I ordered a plate of their signature loaded fries—thick-cut fries topped with plenty of cheese and covered in beef slow-cooked in beer until tender, carrying the unique aroma and sweetness of the beer. Paired with an ice-cold draft beer, it's a perfect match. 🍟 · A local obsession: The friend who took us is a local and said that to support the local economy, locals insist on drinking only locally produced beer. Besides, the draft beer is so delicious that I wouldn't want to drink anything else either. I'm Xiang de Lingguang. Follow me to unlock those unknown hidden gems and authentic local experiences. No tourist traps, no following the crowd—I only share travel answers truly worth cherishing. The journey doesn't end here. See you next time!

MONA — the Museum of Old and New Art. 🎨 One of the places I was most excited to visit in Tasmania, and honestly, it was unlike any museum I had ever experienced before. We joined the Beginner’s Tour Guide package, which made the experience even more meaningful. Having someone guide us through the artworks, explain the stories behind them, and help us understand the ideas and emotions behind each piece gave me a completely different perspective. MONA isn’t just about looking at art. It makes you think. Sometimes you understand it immediately; sometimes you stand there wondering, “What am I actually looking at?” 😂 And I think that’s the beauty of it. Every corner felt unexpected — sometimes fascinating, sometimes confronting, sometimes funny, and sometimes simply beautiful. I loved how MONA challenged the way I see art and reminded me that art doesn't always have to be understood. Sometimes, it just has to make you feel something. Another beautiful memory added to my Tasmania journey. 🖤 Thank you, MONA, for the experience — and Tasmania, you continue to amaze me. ✨ #MONA #MuseumOfOldAndNewArt #MONATasmania #Tasmania #Hobart #TasmaniaTravel #VisitTasmania #TasmaniaTrip #ArtAndTravel #TravelMemories #TravelDiary #BeginnerTour #MuseumExperience #ExploreTasmania #Wanderlust #TravelAustralia

The ideal duration is 6 to 8 days to truly experience Tasmania's authentic charm. Why? Because the island is 1.7 times the size of Taiwan and public transportation is quite limited, making it difficult to cover the highlights without your own wheels. For the best itinerary, use Hobart in the South and Launceston in the North as your "dual hubs." This allows for an "Open-Jaw" (in through A, out through B) route, so you can loop the island without backtracking and keep things chill! 🗺️ 4 Core Must-Visit Regions for Newcomers and Veterans: 1⃣ World Heritage & Alpine Hiking (North/Central) Cradle Mountain: An iconic Tasmanian mountain landscape featuring the flat and easy Dove Lake Circuit. It's incredibly relaxing for post-hike photos. Ronny Creek: Located right next to Cradle Mountain. There is a high chance of encountering wild wombats at dusk—their cuteness factor is 100%! 2⃣ Majestic Coasts & Pristine Beaches (East) Wineglass Bay: A perfectly curved turquoise bay inside Freycinet National Park. A top-tier spot for photography! Bay of Fires: White sands paired with orange-hued boulders. A must-visit for photos; the atmosphere under the sun is amazing. 3⃣ History, Culture & Avant-Garde Art (South) Port Arthur: A World Heritage-listed historic convict site that is both mysterious and captivating. MONA (Museum of Old and New Art): Located in Hobart, this underground modern art venue is mind-blowing and absolutely unbeatable! 4⃣ Island Ecology & Gourmet Delights (Southern Suburbs) Bruny Island: A foodie’s paradise! You must try the fresh oysters and artisanal cheeses, and there are boutique wineries waiting to be explored. Mount Wellington: Drive to the summit for a panoramic view of Hobart and a spectacular look toward Antarctica. 🗓️ Best Time to Visit From November to March (Southern Hemisphere Summer), the weather is warm and perfect for outdoor activities. December to January also features blooming lavender fields that are breathtakingly beautiful. 📍 Transport Tips Self-driving around the island is highly recommended! If you don't drive, stay in the city centers and join local day tours every day to ensure you see all the sights. Don't hesitate—eat well, stay well, and play to the fullest. If you ever visit Tasmania, Australia, the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in the capital city of Hobart is absolutely worth fitting into your itinerary. It was hands down one of the most surprising highlights of my Tasmanian trip. MONA opened its doors in 2011, boasting a collection that spans ancient artifacts and contemporary art. However, beyond the exhibits themselves, what left the deepest impression on me was the spatial experience created by the architecture. ▎Wandering Slowly from the Riverbank into the Underground From the outside, MONA isn't a particularly flashy landmark. Built primarily with concrete and rusted steel, it blends unobtrusively into the surrounding riverbank and natural environment. But once you step inside, the vibe shifts completely. The exhibition spaces plunge deep underground, making you feel like you've entered a secluded alternate universe. The interior is a labyrinth of long corridors, towering walls, staircases, suspended walkways, and exhibition halls of varying scales. Some spaces are claustrophobically narrow, while others suddenly open up dramatically. One moment you might be walking past a rugged bedrock wall, and the next, you're stepping into a stark white gallery or a corridor of light and shadow. There’s no strict designated path for the tour; it feels more like slowly exploring an underground maze. The spatial design is incredibly diverse. ▎Architecture as Bold as the Exhibits MONA’s exhibits are notoriously subversive, and the architecture perfectly echoes that vibe. It doesn't just let you stand quietly and observe the art. Instead, it plays with darkness, sound, textures, and spatial dimensions to directly manipulate your emotions. For me, the most fascinating aspect is how hard it is to separate the building from the art. I might not remember the name of every piece, but I’ll never forget the feeling of walking down a dimly lit hallway, standing beside a three-story-high wall, or suddenly catching a beam of light underground. MONA proves that a cultural landmark doesn't have to dominate a city's skyline to make an impact. By choosing to hide beneath the earth, it forces visitors to physically descend into its depths to truly experience its profundity. Since its opening, MONA has drawn over 1.5 million domestic and international visitors, effectively reviving Tasmania's economy and tourism industry. If you ever find yourself in Tasmania and Hobart, you definitely have to check it out. 📍Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) Address: 655 Main Road, Berriedale, Hobart, Tasmania 7011, Australia Hours: Typically 10:00 AM–6:00 PM (Hours may vary by season or on holidays. It's recommended to check their official website for the latest updates before you go.)

If it's your first day in Hobart, I highly recommend taking a stroll along the Waterfront. Sailboats moored at the docks, historic sandstone buildings along the shore, and the laid-back rhythm unique to a harbor city. Whether it's the Saturday-exclusive Salamanca Market, the free-entry museums, or freshly shucked oysters and fish & chips right by the pier—this area encapsulates the most classic side of Hobart. It's perfect to spend half a day to a full day here, slowly soaking in the city's vibe. 🚗 Transport: Driving is best, buses also work well The Hobart Waterfront is located right in the city center, making it highly accessible: · Driving (Highly Recommended): Starting from downtown Hobart, drive along Davey Street or Macquarie Street, and you'll reach the waterfront in just a few minutes. Driving is also the easiest way to visit Mount Wellington. · Bus: Multiple city bus routes pass by the waterfront and Salamanca Place, offering direct access from your accommodation. · Walking: If you're staying in the CBD, most attractions are within walking distance, making it perfect for a Citywalk. 🗺️ Recommended Itinerary (One-Day Highlights) If you happen to arrive on a Saturday, this route flows perfectly: 🛍️ Stop 1: Salamanca Market — Saturday Exclusive Salamanca Market is Tasmania's most popular tourist attraction and one of the largest outdoor markets in the Southern Hemisphere. The market stretches along the historic Salamanca Place; walking from one end to the other takes about half an hour. · Hours: Every Saturday from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM · Stalls: Over 300 stalls · What to buy: Fresh fruits, bread, cheese, sweets, pastries, vegetables; handmade soaps, cosmetics, aromatherapy products; artwork, handcrafted jewelry, secondhand goods; plus freshly shucked oysters and seafood stalls The market is more than just a place to shop, it feels like a carnival—with street performers, the mouthwatering aromas of food trucks, and locals leisurely strolling with their dogs. ⛵ Stop 2: Waterfront Harbour — A Quiet Escape in the Bustling City After exploring the market, take a slow walk along the waterfront. You'll see docks lined with sailboats and yachts. There are no massive crowds here—just blue skies, fluffy clouds, and the gentle sound of water lapping against the shore. Right next to it is Constitution Dock, where many restaurants and cafes are clustered. 🏛️ Stop 3: Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) — A Free Cultural Treasure Trove TMAG is located on the waterfront and is Australia's second-oldest museum, housed within a historic building dating back to 1808. · Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM · Admission: Completely free · Highlights: Exhibits detailing the Tasmanian Aboriginal culture lost to British colonization; specimens of the extinct Tasmanian tiger; early colonial historical artifacts and artwork 🌉 Stop 4: Brooke Street Pier — A Floating Glass Building This is a floating pontoon, 80 meters long and 20 meters wide, serving as both a building and a boat. It's the departure point for ferries to MONA (Museum of Old and New Art) and a great spot to shop for Tasmanian agricultural produce, specialty foods, craft alcohol, design items, and cosmetics. The pier features cafes, retail shops, and souvenir boutiques, making it an ideal place to grab a coffee and take a break. 🍽️ Dinner Recommendations: A Seafood Feast by the Pier The waterfront area is packed with dining options. The following two are highly popular local seafood choices: · Mures Lower Deck: Located at Victoria Dock, they have their own fishing vessel. The Lower Deck offers casual, fast-food style dining focusing on fish & chips, burgers, and light meals; the Upper Deck is an à la carte restaurant with a nicer ambiance and great harbor views. Signature dishes include seafood chowder, freshly shucked oysters, and fisherman's baskets. Both indoor and outdoor seating are available. Operating since 1973, it's a classic choice for seafood lovers. · Mako Seafood: Also situated at Constitution Dock, this is a casual floating seafood eatery. Famous for the quality and value of its fish & chips, it also serves seafood platters, squid, prawns, and fresh oysters. Dine-in or take-away available. If you're looking for reasonably priced, fresh seafood, this is a fantastic option. · Other Options: You'll also find several other seafood restaurants nearby, like Fish Frenzy and Pearl + Co. If time and energy permit, you can drive up to Mount Wellington before sunset. It's about a 25 to 30-minute drive from the city center along Pinnacle Road. Standing at an elevation of 1,271 meters, the summit offers a 360-degree panoramic view of Hobart, the Derwent River, and the distant direction of Antarctica. On a clear day, the scenery is absolutely spectacular. 💡 Tips 1. Tasmania has a large temperature difference between day and night, so bring extra layers: Even in summer, mornings and evenings can be chilly, especially at the summit where the wind is much stronger. 2. Highly recommend staying in the city center: It's much more convenient, allowing you to walk to the waterfront and major attractions. 3. Remember to reserve your Saturday morning for Salamanca Market: This is Tasmania's most quintessential weekend experience. 4. TMAG is closed on Mondays: Be sure to check their operating hours before you go. 5. Allocate half a day to a full day: The attractions around the waterfront are close together. Strolling and eating at a leisurely pace makes for a perfect day out. 📌 Conclusion Hobart's Waterfront is Tasmania's first gift to travelers. The Saturday Salamanca Market awaits with over 300 stalls for you to explore; TMAG's free exhibits take you on a journey through Tasmania's history and culture; Mures and Mako by the pier will satisfy your taste buds with the freshest oysters and fish & chips. If you still have time, drive up to the mountain peak to overlook the entire city from 1,271 meters high—from the harbor to the summit, this is the ultimate way to experience Hobart. "Hobart Waterfront: Under the watchful eye of Mount Wellington, step into the everyday harbor life of Tasmania." 🩵⛵🌄

Sawasdee ka everyone! 🙏 As a Bangkok girl who spends 90% of my life melting in the heat or staring at screens drawing illustrations, escaping to Tasmania in August was a literal dream. Honestly, I’ve been craving some cinematic winter vibes for ages, and Tassie did not disappoint! It felt like stepping straight into a movie set. We did an 8-day road trip. Since I don't drive (and honestly, who wants to navigate winding roads in the freezing cold when you can look out the window and sketch?), we booked a private charter car with a local driver. Best decision ever! We could just relax, and stop whenever I saw a view that looked like a film scene. Here’s how our cozy, slightly chaotic trip went: ✨ My Movie-Like Highlights: · Port Arthur: This historical site is so hauntingly beautiful. We did the ghost tour and, oh my gosh, it was so spooky but incredibly atmospheric! Felt like being in a gothic mystery film. · Bruny Island: Standing on those 200-meter cliffs with the freezing wind blowing in my face... honestly, I felt like a main character in a dramatic romance movie. The scale of nature there is just insane. · Cradle Mountain & Dove Lake: Walking around the lake in the winter chill felt like stepping into Narnia. My hands were freezing, but I couldn't stop snapping photos for my illustration reference folder. · Sheffield Mural Town: Okay, as an artist, I was in heaven! A whole town covered in murals? I spent so much time just wandering around looking at the details and chatting with locals. · Mount Wellington: We went up for the view of Hobart, and let me tell you, it was FREEZING! Coming from Thailand, I thought I brought enough layers, but up there, you really need to wrap yourself up like a burrito. 📝 A few 'rambly' tips from my experience: 1. Apply for that Aussie visa early! Don't leave it to the last minute, seriously, the stress is not worth it. 2. Pack a universal adapter! Australia has those three-flat-pin plugs. I almost forgot mine and panicked because my laptop and iPad are my life. 3. August is peak winter there. Coming from Thailand, the temperature shock is real. Pack heavy windbreakers, thermal wear, and beanies. 4. Don't skip the sunscreen. Even though it's cold, the Aussie sun is super strong. My face actually got a bit red on the coastal walks! It was such a healing trip. I came back to Bangkok with a camera roll full of memories and a brain full of new drawing ideas. Have any of you been to Tassie in the winter? Let's chat in the comments! 👇

Patience at the End of the World | Domaine A Winery Tasting Tour Hello, this is the 20th stop on our global winery exploration journey—I've arrived at the end of the world, Tasmania 🇦🇺 About a 30-minute drive from Hobart, through valleys, apple orchards, fishing harbors, and the charming historic town of Richmond, you'll reach the artfully designed white houses of Domaine A (Pangu Winery). It's like an art gallery, a high-end private club, and even has adorable little goats in the vineyards 🐐. The winery is not only ranked five stars in the Australian Wine Bible (double red), but is also hailed as the pinnacle of Cabernet Sauvignon from Australia's cool-climate regions. It's important to know that Cabernet Sauvignon is an extremely challenging variety to grow in Tasmania's cool climate. The flagship "Domaine A" is aged at the winery for 12 years before being released. The winemaker wants to use the patience of the Old World to create a fine wine in the New World 🍷. In an era that values speed, this kind of dedication is particularly moving. 🕐An Experiment with Time as the Variable In 1973, George and Priscilla Park planted their first vines in the Coal River Valley. This vineyard, later known as Stoney Vineyard, is now one of the oldest single vineyards in the region. Back then, few believed Tasmania could produce good red wine. The cold, windy conditions and slow ripening meant the government encouraged apple cultivation; planting Cabernet Sauvignon seemed like a pipe dream. In 1989, Peter and Ruth Althaus from Switzerland arrived. They discovered that the north-facing slopes ensured ample sunlight, the Jurassic shale provided depth and barrenness, and the sea breezes, while lowering temperatures, preserved the potential for ripening. Perhaps they could realize the ideals of the Old World in the New World. 🍃A Unique Terroir Stoney Vineyard is small, only 11 hectares, but every row of vines and every slope is etched in its memory. High-density planting forces roots to delve deep, while less than 500 mm of annual rainfall and a long ripening season allow flavors to accumulate slowly. All grapes are harvested and sorted by hand, minimizing intervention and maximizing trust. In 2018, Peter retired, and the winery entered David Walsh's system, sharing the same lineage as Moorilla Estate, but the pace of time remained unchanged. 🥂A winery tasting is the most pleasant afternoon in Tasmania. The renovated tasting room has a touch of European hotel drama; enjoying a glass of rosé on the terrace under the sun and white clouds is truly therapeutic! When the sommelier handed me the first glass, he said, "We don't strive for perfection, we strive for authenticity." I love this expression. 🍷Three wines that left a deep impression: ✨Lady A Sauvignon Blanc: Absolutely stunning! Lemon peel, white peach, and subtle flint notes; a rich and textured palate. You can sense the inspiration from Bordeaux, yet it ultimately expresses the terroir of Tasmania. No wonder JH rated it as the best Sauvignon Blanc in Australia! 👍 ✨ Domaine A Cabernet Sauvignon 2013: Time is visible in this wine; blackcurrant, tomato leaf, cedar, and cocoa powder blend together. Even after 12 years of cellar aging, the tannins remain firm, indicating excellent aging potential. It's also delicious now! ✨Stoney Vineyard Rosé It evokes a joy of living in the moment 🌸 Crisp, clean, and with a valley breeze, it's perfect for a Tasmanian summer ☀️ If patience has its own charm, then Domaine A is probably the answer 🫶 📖Tips: 📍 105 Tea Tree Road, Campania 🕰 Thu–Sun 11:00–17:00 💰 Tasting: AUD 20 📅 Advance booking required for wine tasting

📍 MONA Museum (Tasmania) There's a large trampoline outside the museum entrance, and it's very lively with children playing on it. I'm excited even before I enter! 😀❗️ The playful atmosphere within the artsy space makes this a popular area with families. The staff who guide you at the entrance are dressed in modern and stylish clothing. ❣️ The uniforms seem to match the overall design of the museum, and you can feel the "MONA" vibe from the moment you arrive. After a short break in the basement cafe, we headed off to enjoy the art. The relaxing atmosphere of the cafe makes it the perfect place to prepare yourself for the upcoming exhibitions. ⚠️Note 1⚠️ Parking is limited, so it's recommended to arrive by car with plenty of time! When we visited, there were only a few parking spaces left. ⭐️Recommended⭐️ Pausiris Mummy Particularly memorable was the exhibition room where a mummy, encased in a coffin, was quietly placed in the center of a space surrounded by pitch-black water. Entry is limited to groups, allowing for small group viewing. The near-silence of the exhibits made for a truly mystical and unforgettable experience. #Tasmania #MONA #MuseumOfOldAndNewArt #TasmaniaTrip #MonaMuseum #ArtTour #HobartTour #AustraliaTrip #ContemporaryArt #ArtExperience #SilentTime #MummyExhibition #TravelLog

In Tasmania, every aroma of wine carries the essence of terroir and time. The cool climate nurtures not only wines, but also the innovative legends and family memories flowing in oak barrels. Today, let's embark on a delightful journey through the flavors and terroirs of four major wine regions. Would you also like to meet those humble yet passionate winemakers? 【Southern Wine Trail】 From Hobart northwards, the fertile Coal River Valley and Derwent Valley are dotted with unique wineries, forming part of the Southern Wine Trail. You can stroll into Pooley Wines and enjoy weekend wood-fired pizzas while tasting wines; or head to Frogmore Creek for lunch while admiring the stunning views of the valley and vineyards. In the Twente Valley, Stefano Lubiana welcomes visitors with Tuscan flair, offering not only wine tastings but also Italian cuisine; while Derwent Estate provides tasting tours and lunch experiences, its vines, grown in ancient limestone quarries, imparting unique flavors to its wines. The emerging winery Mewstone Wines, nestled in a former cherry orchard, boasts a tasting room overlooking the D'Entrecasteaux Channel and offers private tastings. Winemaker Jonathan Hughes, who spent seven years at the historic Moorilla winery within the Museum of Old and New Arts (MONA), now runs Mewstone with his brother Matthew, focusing on small-batch production of Chardonnay, Syrah, and Riesling. For a more experimental experience, try Mewstone's natural wines or the 2021 collaborative laboratory cider made from apples from a twelve-year-old orchard. In the Turrakana/Tasman Peninsula region, you can visit Bream Creek Vineyard, sip a glass of Pinot Noir, and gaze at the picturesque Marion Bay. Bangor Vineyard Shed carries an even deeper history—it's situated on a historic, generationally owned farm, the very spot where Dutch explorer Abel Tasman landed in Tasmania in 1642. If you visit in November, don't miss Spring in the Vines in Southern Tasmania. Local wineries will open their doors for a week of unique tastings, guided tours, and wine-themed events, allowing you to fully experience the charm of Southern wines! 【Tamar Valley Wine Trail】 The Tamar Valley is Tasmania's oldest and most prestigious wine region, adjacent to Launceston in northern Tasmania. Robert Heywood, chief winemaker at Clover Hill Wines, firmly believes this is "the best place in the New World for developing sparkling wines." Clover Hill is renowned for its award-winning sparkling wines made using the traditional method, and Heywood states, "You won't find a more ideal climate in the Southern Hemisphere." At Pipers River Winery, the expansive views and vineyard vistas are breathtaking, making it an excellent spot for wine tasting. Meanwhile, the family-owned Delamere Vineyards, specializing in Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, benefits from a stable climate and abundant sunshine, creating ideal growing conditions. Owner and winemaker Fran Austin explains, "After winter frosts and occasional bad weather, the fruit ripens slowly and evenly, ensuring that wines made in the cooler climate retain a persistent acidity." In November, you can also attend the Effervescence Tasmania Sparkling Wine Festival and enjoy top-notch sparkling wines with over 1200 wine enthusiasts. At Josef Chromy Wine, a top-tier modern winery in Relbia, you can also experience special sparkling wine-themed activities such as "Yoga in the Vines" and "Bubbles & Beats." 【East Coast Wine Trail】 As one of Australia's oldest family businesses, Gala Estate has a long and rich history. Its original family farm, located in Cranbrook, was established in 1821 and is still in operation today. Co-owner Grainne Greenhil says, "Our family has lived on this land for 200 years; we know it like the back of our hand." From managing convicts to successfully operating sheep farms and grain growers, the family business has evolved. "From 4,000 hectares, we've selected 11 hectares of the highest quality, steep, north-facing iron ore slopes. We have four natural rivers and five private forest reserves, and we understand the local soil, vines, climate, and nature. We listen to the land and give back to it," Greenhil says. Gala Estate is one of six vineyards around Cranbrook. The family-run Spring Vale Vineyards has its story etched in stone, with its tasting room housed in a stable built in 1842 by exiled convicts. Nearby Craigie Knowe Winery is the oldest vineyard on the East Coast—its vines were first planted in 1979. Devil’s Corner’s cellars not only tell a story but also offer breathtaking views—climb the wooden observation tower for panoramic vistas of the Freycinet Peninsula. In September, you can delve into the talents of the region’s winemakers during Great Eastern Wine Week. The event features a variety of masterclasses, tasting dinners, and other unique vineyard activities throughout the East Coast. In November, there’s another unmissable festival: the Bicheno Food and Wine Festival, where you can enjoy exquisite cuisine and fine wines on the stunning waterfront. 【Northwest Wine Trail】 With Cradle Mountain as a backdrop, Northwest Tasmania is a stunning wine region. A 15-minute drive from the Spirit of Tasmania wharf in Devonport will take you to the renowned Ghost Rock Wines. Its tasting room and restaurant offer panoramic views of vineyards, rolling countryside, and the Bass Strait. This 27-hectare family-owned winery is now run by the second generation, maintaining traditional hand-growing and nurturing practices. Inspired by their youth in the Emilia-Romagna region of north-central Italy, Marcus and Gail Burns have created La Villa Wines, an Italian-style winery in the Spreyton area. In Tasmania's four major wine regions, every bottle tells a story, and every winemaker is a storyteller. Coming here is not just about tasting wine, but also about experiencing the love and dedication that these skilled winemakers have for this land. 📷 Photos / © Samuel Shelley, Tourism Australia, Tourism Tasmania, Supplied Courtesy of Clover Hill Wines, Adam Gibson, Andrew Wilson, Samuel Shelley, Osborne Images, Rob Burnett, Puddlehub, Big Shed Studios
