The town is about 72 kilometers from Salamanca and is also home to El Bosque Villa, a series of 16th-century Renaissance buildings with a garden that is designated a cultural property. The town’s finest monuments include the Ducal Palace (which also dates from the 16th century) and the 11th-century Moorish walls. You can also stroll along the riverbank: Béjar has a proud textile tradition. This peaceful trail features a series of information panels detailing fascinating chapters in the town's history. The Plaza de Toros is considered to be the oldest bullring in Spain and is also well worth a visit. If you enjoy the outdoors, the Sierra de Francia Mountains are 30 km away; the villages in the area have some unusual architecture, and the views of the 1,700-metre-high Peña de Francia are not to be missed.
