St. Beatus Caves: The Legendary Dragon's Lair
Located by Lake Thun, the St. Beatus Caves are a stunning karst cave formation and a relatively lesser-known attraction. At the foot of the mountain, there's a bus stop where visitors are greeted by the Beatus Museum and a spectacular waterfall cascading down with a thunderous roar, resembling a stampede of wild horses. As you ascend, you'll first encounter a scenic viewpoint offering a panoramic view of Lake Thun's breathtaking beauty. After soaking in the scenery, it's time to head to the caves and purchase tickets for the tour.
The St. Beatus Caves extend deep into the mountain for about a kilometer and feature rushing streams and waterfalls illuminated by strategically placed lights, highlighting the unique rock formations. Legend has it that the inspiration for the dragon's lair in "The Lord of the Rings" came from these caves. The caves are named after Saint Beatus, who is said to have lived and meditated here.
One of the most surprising features of the St. Beatus Caves is the endpoint, which leads to a cave restaurant. This unique dining spot offers stunning views and an incredible atmosphere. You can choose a seat with a view of the lake, enjoy a cup of coffee, and take a relaxing break.

Switzerland is chilly on the peaks even in summer, so layer up! For eats, bring snacks (little cafes can be pricey) and try a classic rösti or cheese fondue wherever possible.
Visa: Schengen zone rules apply (check requirements). Credit cards work everywhere, but keep some CHF cash for small purchases.

Switzerland took my breath away.
From the crystal-clear lakes to the majestic Alps stretching across the sky, every moment felt like a dream.
I reconnected with an old friend who’s now creating beautiful art with kimono fabric — her work even graces Michelin-starred restaurants.
The fresh mountain air, the sound of cowbells echoing through the valleys, the peaceful train rides…
This journey reminded me how deeply beauty and simplicity can touch the soul.
Thank you Switzerland for the inspiration. I’ll be back.

Wonderful restaurant and traditional FRESH food!
Hotel counts with a stunning hotel serving breakfast and dinner. For dinner the separated menu it’s a plus!!! Crew is very well prepared to guide you trough it (menu is in German) and explain all the best options, even for cocktails/mocktails!
We wanted more light options and waiter offered us a few types of pasta, even outside of the menu.
They have so many options of the traditional fundue as well! 🥰

The must-go town at the starting point of Jungfraujoch in Switzerland is Interlaken
#globaltravel #europetravel ##switzerland
🇨🇭The small town of Interlaken is located in the Bernese Oberland, between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, so you can enjoy different blue-green dreamy lake views🚤. In addition, you can also play different extreme outdoor sports such as skydiving🪂 and enjoy the entire town from high altitude. Must-see attractions include Harder Kulm, St Beatus Caves and Panorama bridge Sigriswil. In addition, people usually stop in this town before going to Jungfraujoch (accommodation is also a little cheaper than at the foot of Jungfraujoch💰). You can take a train from here to Jungfraujoch as a one-day trip.

📍Address: Interlaken, Switzerland
🚞Transportation: All cities in Switzerland also have trains (SBB) to Interlaken Station
📯Notes:
1️⃣ There are two main train stations in Interlaken (Interlaken Ost/Interlaken West). Remember to pay attention when booking a hotel (but you can rest assured that most attractions are within walking distance)
2️⃣ Some airbnb/hotels will provide guest cards (Guest Card), and you can use public transportation for free
3️⃣ St. Beatus Cave will not be open from November to March due to weather problems. Friends who want to go, remember to pay attention.

Beautiful, cool, spectacular
We went by car!
At first, we had to climb a hill to get to the entrance.
It was hot outside and the hill was steep and tough, but the view after we climbed up was very beautiful.
It was very cool inside the cave◎
Bring a jacket is a must!
There was a river(?) flowing inside the cave, which was a spectacular sight✨
The temperature inside is the same as in winter.
It seems that it is not affected by the temperature outside!
The nearby towns on the way were also beautiful and fun.
We enjoyed the mountain and town scenery together.

Most stunningly Alpine
#naturalbeauty
Switzerland has some of the most beautiful sights of nature. So many things work for it. A superb natural setting causes this effortless appeal that Switzerland has. During my most expensive backpacking trip to switzerland, I was lucky to have spent some time in Interlaken
It's a tiny swiss town surrounded by mountains and a lake on each end, can you imagine that setting? How wonderful does that sound. On it's own there in isn't much to do. So most travellers visiting Interlaken do so to enjoy the splendour of the mountains and the pristine lakes.
Outdoors is all you do, speaking of which, the places worthy of visit would be namely the st. Beatus caves above lake thun. They even have a little museum over there. I even enjoyed renting a bike from the guesthouse and visited the Geissbach waterfalls and lake Breinz.
Since there are going to be several access to lakes in Interlaken. Should your holiday be timed with the sunny season. That would make for a fantastic day of swimming, laying around or even a picnic by the lake. The water's going to be cold though.
Amongst the most popular activities is taking the train to Jungfrau. Amongst the highest stations on the continent. You'll see some incredible sights and snow. As it goes with most things in switzerland, this return trip alone will cost you 200 dollars upwards. Given that there are lot of backpackers visiting Interlaken. The night life can be interesting and you could run into some very interesting people when you grab a beer and bite. #naturalbeauty #switzerland #interlaken #alpine #myhiddengems #summerdestinations #100waysoftravel

This is a fantastic cave. Be prepared it’s a long cave and you can spend several hours here. The trail is great. I do wish they had some markers saying how much finger to the end. However when you reach the end of the cave there is a Grand Tour award photo spot. Don’t miss the museum like display at the beginning of the cave where you learn the history of Beatus. Oh and the museum at the entrance is a must see as it gives you a better understanding of what you are about to see. Just buy your ticket there to the cave.
St. Beatus cave on Beatenberg mountain is just above Lake Thun. According to legend, in 100 AD a monk St. Beatus (baptized by Barnabas and sent by the disciple Peter) lifted his cross, and through the spirit of the Holy Trinity, cast a fire-breathing dragon out of the caves and into Lake Thun where he died. Then Beatus made it his home.
Inside the cave there are underground gorges, babbling springs and large waterfalls. It’s a beautiful cave and a relaxing hike. Way more than I expected.
Oh in your way out take the meandering trail and check out the flora, so pretty.
The views from here are great (maybe not crazy mountaintop views, but good). Easy walk up to the building and caves from the parking. The food is also pretty good, not like a tourist trap. The caves are nice (not spectacular) but even if you don’t do the caves this can be a great lunch or quick visit spot, and a good rainy day idea for sure.

There are two main reasons for being attracted by this hotel:
First, this hotel occupies a very favorable location to see Lake Thun and the mountains across the lake. When the weather is good, just look at the balcony. Can see the Jungfrau;
The second more important reason is that the owner of this hotel is the chef of this hotel, doing a good job. Imagine enjoying the sumptuous classic Swiss cuisine at any time on this snowy mountain, and eating a hot cheese fondue, life is so complete.
The snow flakes outside the window couldn't stop, so I went back to the room to finish the afternoon.
The room is large, simple and clean look is very Swiss. After living in Paris for a week, I turned to Switzerland and saw such an empty room. Because we had a large baggage in Paris before departure, the room was large and the luggage was small. Both people could dance in the room. In Switzerland, wearing a single coat that day, hurriedly found out the thickest coat in the baggage, what the bottoming shirt and leggings down jacket smashed out. But the jacket still has to be worn! So the gloomy snowy day, of course, need candy color to activate the atmosphere.
