Cuopu Valley Scenic Area
Cuopu Gully | Cuopu Lake
| Cuopu Lake.◾️Cuopu Lake is the most famous and core attraction of Cuopu Gully scenic area, with a water area of about 0.4 square kilometers. It is the first holy lake in Kamba, known as the 'Soul of Shangri-La'.
◾️We took a sightseeing car to Cuopu Lake, which is backed by Zajin Jabbo Mountain and faces the vast Zhangde Prairie. At the foot of the sacred mountain, there is a large group of Tibetans picnicking and sunbathing. The Zajin Jabbo Mountain behind Cuopu Lake is quite shocking when viewed up close.
◾️Cuopu Lake is surrounded by mountains on all sides. The front is Nite Gangri Peak, three sides are the original cedar forest, and one side is the lake plank road. If you don't have altitude sickness, you can try a lake tour. If you feel unwell, take it easy. Standing on the half slope on the opposite side of the lake, you can see part of the whole view of the lake. The pines and cypresses by the lake absorb the blue lake water and guard this blue lake color, which is a kind of beauty. The sacred lake quietly lies in the green embrace of the high mountain pines and fir forest. When the sun shines on the lake water of Cuopu Lake, the color of the lake water is very beautiful, deep blue.
◾️Many plateau naked carp and fine scale flowers grow in the lake. When they hear the lamas and Jumu feeding by the lake, they will swarm in groups. The scenic area also launched the 'shouting fish' project, which can be experienced on the plank road. The lama next to it will sell fish feed, one yuan per group, cash only. There are many rare birds and animals in the forest by the lake, and there are beautiful swans and black-necked cranes resting on the lake. It is said that there are ground squirrels on the grassland.
◾️We walked on the leftmost plank road of Cuopu Lake, not only the color of the lake changes, but also the shape of the lake. Different directions and angles are different. The lake color from near to far presents a magical spectrum of silver white, deep blue, deep green, and dark green. The east of the lake is dyed gold, the heart of the lake is emerald green, and the west of the lake is stone green. The breeze blows, sparkling, very spiritual.

Glaciers and flower seas, this is the place where the summer in western Sichuan becomes divine
Glaciers and flower seas, this is the place where the summer in western Sichuan becomes divine.
On the way to Batang, I accidentally fell in love with this mountain valley pastoral village.
Here, surrounded by high mountains on all sides, the Dingqu River winds through the valley.
The forest grassland spreads out like a green carpet, and small wildflowers adorn the entire valley.
Horses and yaks are quietly foraging, and village children are playing freely.
This scene is like the Dolomites in Italy, it's really beautiful.
On this trip, I can see such a secret place, a big surprise.
📍Location: Gemu Village, Bomi Township, Batang, Ganzi
🚗Transportation: Self-driving
💚Road conditions:

Reti Valley
1. Reti Valley is a grassland wetland landscape, full of wildflowers, and the river winds through the forest grassland, very suitable for aerial photography
② Laborer Longba Pass
The Zeba-Gemu journey passes through the pass at an altitude of 4700, where you can face the Gelie Mountains, the telephoto shot of the snow mountain is very spectacular, and you can also overlook the Reti Valley
3. Gemu Village S Bay
I personally think there are 2 S bays, one is about 5KM before entering the village (here is a valley on one side, full of wildflowers on the other side, and high mountains in the distance), and the other is at the position of leaving the village and going up the mountain, both are very suitable for framing
4. Flower Sea of Gemu Village
Gemu Village is located in a narrow grassland, the houses are small wooden houses and tents, and there are large areas of small wildflowers near the village, dense and spectacular

⛰️ Attractions
✅ Ten Thousand Mu Poplar Forest: One of the "Three Most" of Daocheng Yading, the world's highest (3,740 meters) man-made poplar forest, covering an area of about 15,000 mu. The scenery varies with the seasons, and in autumn, the poplar forest is as beautiful as a colorful palette, with every photo looking like a masterpiece.
✅ Zimai Sutra Hall: With a history of over 400 years, it has produced 13 reincarnated living Buddhas. It is a typical traditional Tibetan building made of stone, mud, and grass, with sutra halls of both the Gelug and Sakya sects, featuring exquisite murals and dusty scriptures.
✅ Pilo Paleolithic Site: With a history of 230,000 years, it carries the wisdom and civilization of ancient humans. Every stone seems to tell the story of that ancient and mysterious history.
✅ Rubuchaka Hot Spring: After climbing Daocheng Yading, stay in this hot spring village and soak in the hot springs to relax. Soaking in natural hot springs at an altitude of 3,700 meters is incredibly comfortable! The average cost is only 15-20 per person, and many locals from Daocheng and surrounding areas come here specifically to soak in the hot springs.
✅ Other attractions: The High Altitude Cosmic Ray Observatory and Ancient Tree Tibetan House are also great, each with its own charm.

🌼Hiking time: We parked our car at the parking lot of No. 1 Viewing Platform, walked around Cuopu Lake, and took photos. The round trip took nearly three hours. If we were lucky, we could meet the sightseeing bus at the Cuopu Temple stop on the way back. The kind driver would also take us to the parking lot for free, which could save us half an hour.
🌼Self-driving road conditions: There are a few sections of road between the visitor center and the entrance of the scenic spot that are in poor condition, with a few shell craters. Cars should drive carefully. The road conditions inside the scenic spot are very good. The advantage of self-driving is that you can stop and go as you please, and you can stop and take photos when you see beautiful scenery. Several of my photos are from the scenery along the road.
🌟🌟Travel guide
1️⃣After changing at Haimen Stone, the sightseeing bus will take everyone to the "Cuopu Temple Stop" (touring from the innermost part of the scenic spot outwards). First visit Cuopu Temple, then walk 2.5KM along the lakeside boardwalk, and return to the "Cuopu Lake Parking Point" to take the bus back.
2️⃣Recommended way of touring👇
✨Tell the staff that you want to get off at the "Cuopu Lake Parking Point", then walk towards the lake, don't go to Cuopu Temple.

Mao Ya Prairie | A free pasture for the soul.
🎋Mao Ya Prairie is surrounded by mountains 🏔️, with green grass and sky, there are many yaks 🐃 and wild flowers 🌸 here, like a Monet garden 💐, colorful 🌈, it is a very low-key prairie in western Sichuan
📍Detailed address: West of Litang County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture
🚗Traffic strategy: Navigation [Heni Township Anwa Village]
🕙Opening hours: all day
💰Ticket price: free
📸Photo tips:
[One] The morning light and flowers of the prairie, dozens of kilometers of green grassland, looking south at the 5838-meter-high Yimu Gongxia Snow Mountain on the prairie, all are excellent photography materials;
[Two] There is a method that is very suitable for recording the beautiful prairie at sunset, which is panoramic photos. This method must be learned;
[Three] Before shooting, pay attention to metering and focusing at one end by half-pressing the shutter, and then press the shutter for panoramic shooting after satisfaction;
[Four] When turning the camera, keep it level, otherwise it is easy to fail to shoot; when shooting backlit sunset, it is not recommended to directly HDR the sun. Because when looking directly at the sun, the light ratio is very large, even if you use RAW format to shoot multiple photos and synthesize, it is very likely that the highlight part of the picture will be overexposed seriously;
[Five] Using panoramic mode to shoot the sunset prairie scenery will shoot a work that you will never forget.

Ge'nyen South Line | The village that looks most like Xinjiang.
Batang, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture
Location 📍 Gemu Village, Bomi Township, Batang, Ganzi
We went there in September. It is recommended to visit Ge'nyen South Line from June to August.
It will look even better when it is full of flowers 💐.
In this Gemu Village, there is a valley on one side and high mountains in the distance on the other side, and the ground is full of plants.
The villagers nearby are really slow-paced and very enthusiastic about tourists.
🚗 Road conditions
There is a 15km bomb pit road in the Litang section, which requires an SUV or off-road vehicle. It is not recommended for cars❌.
We rented a Tank 300 on Trip.com, which is very easy to drive. We bought full insurance and the experience was very good👍.

The Maoya Prairie in western Sichuan is absolutely stunning.
【Location】
The Maoya Prairie is located on the eastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, at an altitude of about 3,800 meters. It is one of the most beautiful alpine meadows in Asia. It is about 700 kilometers from Chengdu and is an important stop on the western Sichuan loop. It is also a must-pass route to Daocheng Yading.
【Attraction Introduction】
When you step into this vast green world, you will be attracted by its original and pure breath. In the summer, various wild flowers bloom on the grassland, the snow-capped mountains in the distance, and the herds of cattle and sheep nearby, as if you are in a flowing picture scroll. In autumn, the golden grassland and the blue sky and white clouds complement each other, making people intoxicated.
【Transportation Strategy】
The best way to go to Maoya Prairie is to drive by yourself or charter a car. Depart from Chengdu, drive west along the Yakang Expressway to Kangding, then turn into National Highway G318, and continue to Litang County. If you choose public transportation, you can take a plane or train to Chengdu first, and then take a long-distance bus to Litang. It takes about an hour to drive from Litang County to Maoya Prairie.
【Accommodation Recommendation】
Since the Maoya Prairie itself does not have large hotels, it is recommended that tourists choose to stay in Litang County or nearby towns. There are various accommodation options here, ranging from economy hotels to characteristic homestays. If you want to experience Tibetan customs, you might as well try the local family hotel, where you can not only get close to Tibetan culture, but also taste authentic Tibetan meals!
【Nearby Attractions】
In addition to the Maoya Prairie itself, there are many places worth visiting nearby. For example, the famous Daocheng Yading National Park, which has shocking natural scenery; and Xinduqiao, known as the "paradise of photographers", is an ideal place to shoot plateau scenery; and Tagong Prairie, which is one of the best places to watch Gongga Snow Mountain.

Sichuan Cuo Pu Valley | God knocked over the palette.
Batang Cuo Pu Valley
Cuo Pu Valley is a scenic spot on the Sichuan-Tibet Highway 318, on the way from Litang to Batang. The scenic spot is very large, with snow-capped mountains, lakes, primeval forests, streams and canyons, as well as primitive temples. All the elements you love in Western Sichuan are here!
💰Tickets
Cuo Pu Valley has scenic spot transportation packages and self-driving packages. Tickets can be purchased online or on site. The scenic spot can be accessed by self-driving. If you are driving yourself, you can stop at any point that does not affect traffic (parking spaces are marked on the road). If you are taking scenic spot transportation, you will park at designated locations (in the order of Rekong Hot Springs - Zhangde Grassland - Haimen Stone). The final destination is Haimen Stone, after which you will take a scenic spot electric car to the core scenic spot.
🚗Scenic Spot Road Conditions
The total length of the road inside the scenic spot is about 30km. Due to the construction of the Sichuan-Tibet Railway, there is a 1km rough road inside the scenic spot with shell craters. Other places are paved roads. It is recommended to purchase a scenic spot transportation package if you are driving a sedan.
⚠️Complaints
Scenic spot transportation requires at least 4 people to depart. We waited for almost an hour and the bus still didn't leave. This is a sign of poor management. It is recommended to change to a fixed departure time.
🐏Scenery
1⃣️. Zajinjia Bo and Zajinjia Mu
Legend has it that they are the reincarnation of King Gesar and his queen Zhu Mu. The exposed granite mountains are very beautiful, typical glacial erosion landforms. Although the altitude is not high, the mountain shape is impressive.
2⃣️. Zhangde Grassland
Known as the most beautiful high-altitude grassland, the nearby grassland and streams + the mid-distance mountain slopes and Tibetan houses + the distant mountains and pine forests, it really looks a bit like the Dolomites in Italy.
3⃣️. Cuo Pu Lake
Located at the foot of Zajinjia Bo Mountain, surrounded by mountains on three sides, the lake water is clear, and there are many wildflowers by the lake. Cuo Pu Lake is known as the "First Holy Lake of Kangba". There is a boardwalk along the lake, and there are marmots near the Tibetan houses by the lake. The mountain and lake complex is the core scenic spot of Cuo Pu Valley. The lake is surrounded by pine forests, and the combination of mountains, pine forests and lakes is very similar to Banff.
4⃣️. Rekong Hot Springs
Cuo Pu Valley is rich in geothermal resources, with more than 1,000 hot springs of various sizes. The temperature can reach 93 degrees, and you can boil eggs and corn inside. It is also a good idea to try hot spring boiled eggs when visiting Rekong Hot Springs.
5⃣️. Kangzhu Lacuo and Zhima Yongcuo
Cuo Pu Valley is considered the "culprit" of the Jiuzhaigou substitute. The lake water is crystal clear, and it is indeed very similar to some of the lakes in Jiuzhaigou. The scenic spot staff also strongly recommend this pair of "sister lakes". However, I think the scenic spot's trump card is not these two small lakes, but the super complex landscape composed of grasslands, forests, lakes, snow-capped mountains and temples.

|The ceiling of grassland flowers during summer trip to western Sichuan!
Along the way from Litang to Batang, you will be accompanied by forests, seas of flowers, snow-capped mountains, streams... plateau scenery. When the miles-long Maoya grassland covered with small flowers of various colors slowly spreads outside the car window, the beauty of nature is difficult to express with a camera.
The flat and wide tender green grassland, with the endless sea of flowers in sight, this flower carpet woven by nature makes passers-by stop their cars one after another. It was just in the afternoon, and the weather was cool. We saw the locals bringing teapots and food to the sea of flowers to have afternoon tea. We followed suit and lay down in such nature, looking at the sea of flowers and reading books. , a wonderful afternoon.
I have seen the flower sea grassland in Xinjiang, but I was still amazed by Mao Ya. The tall and dense white flowers, mixed with various other wild flowers, are very layered. When the cool breeze blows, they become even more swaying... No wonder this place is rated as one of the six largest flower seas in China by National Geographic!
📍Attraction address: 70 kilometers from Litang towards Batang, you can find a parking spot on the roadside. It's right on the 318 road and easy to get to.
🎟️Ticket related: No tickets required. Not a scenic spot:
💗Other tips: During the summer rainy season in Western Sichuan, it rains with the clouds from time to time. However, it often clears up in the afternoon, so take advantage of the good weather🤩.

Litang, the home of the soul
In the long river of time, there are always some places that can soothe people's hearts, and Litang is such a place.
Stepping onto the Maoya Grassland in Litang, the first thing that catches the eye is the vast sea of flowers on the grassland. It is a colorful world, with flowers of various colors swaying gracefully in the breeze, as if nature had overturned its palette and sprinkled the most beautiful colors on this grassland.
At the end of the grassland stands the solemn and sacred Litang Monastery. The golden roof shines brilliantly under the sunlight, and the walls of the monastery are covered with exquisite murals, each stroke telling a story of deep faith. Walking into the monastery, one is instantly enveloped by a serene and peaceful atmosphere, with a faint scent of pine in the air and the sound of chanting echoing softly in the ears, bringing an unprecedented sense of tranquility and purification to the soul.
Litang is a place where one can forget the troubles of the world and return to inner peace. Here, everything is so pure and beautiful.

Cuopu Lake: A Feast for the Eyes
On July 2, 2024, we visited the Cuopu Lake National Forest Park, located on the banks of the Jinsha River in western Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan Province, at the junction of Sichuan, Yunnan, and Tibet in Batang County.
After purchasing tickets at the visitor center, we drove our RV into the scenic area.
Along the way, the scenery of the Zhande Prairie was picturesque and boundless—green and blue grasses, shrubs, and colorful wildflowers swayed in the breeze, delighting our spirits!
The prairie is surrounded by rolling high peaks, with mountaintops perennially covered in ice and snow, forming a breathtaking landscape with the lush flowers and green grass...
Steaming hot springs are scattered across the hillsides, cliffs, riverbanks, woodlands, and meadows, large and small, each with its own shape...
Many stories from one of the world's famous epics, 'The Epic of King Gesar,' took place on this magical land, with the scenery and relics of King Gesar scattered like pearls in every corner of the park...
Huge glacial boulders created by ancient glacial movements are visible everywhere. The bedrock of the mountains is exposed, with precipitous cliffs and uniquely shaped rocks...
The breathtaking natural scenery blends with the cultural landscape, not only embodying profound Tibetan cultural connotations but also offering high natural aesthetic value!

The City in the Sky, Litang, and the sacred Kham lake, 'Cuopu Lake'
Speaking of Litang, it is no longer the obscure 'City in the Sky' as it used to be, thanks to Ding Zhen, who let everyone know about Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan, as well as Litang. This highest city in the world, at an altitude of 4014 meters, is also a necessary path along National Highway 318. The Cuopu Valley we are heading to requires passing through Litang before reaching Batang County. Traveling west along the 318, after crossing a pass in the middle of the Shaluli Mountain Range and turning a corner, you will see the sister lakes of Haizi Mountain. Two clear, emerald-green lakes lie closely together. In the desolate wilderness, they are like gems embedded in the earth.
Cuopu Valley, known as the 'First Sacred Lake of Kham', officially opened to the public in October 2020. An aerial view reveals that Cuopu Lake is actually heart-shaped. Here, there are snow-capped mountains, temples, lakes, forests, and grasslands, which are simply a condensed version of the beauty of the Western Sichuan Tibetan area.

Chopugou | An Absolutely Underrated Secret Place.
An Absolutely Underrated Secret Place. Chopugou is simply a condensed version of Xiaochuanxi.
Snow mountains, lakes, forests, rivers,
canyons, waterfalls, hot springs, grasslands,
wild animals, etc.
The natural beauty and cultural landscapes of western Sichuan
can all be seen here.
When we came, there weren't many tourists,
and staying here was very comfortable.
Just walk around and take pictures casually.
[Travel Guide]
It takes a day to explore Chopugou, so it's recommended to arrive at the entrance before 8 AM.
After buying the ticket, take the elevator to the 3rd floor to board the sightseeing bus.
✔ The first stop is: Rekeng Hot Spring Group, the best viewing time: 7:00-9:30 AM. Walk about 330 meters along the hot spring boardwalk through the mist, and enjoy the only hot spring breakfast on the plateau at the hot spring breakfast market. You can sit in the glass restaurant with a full view and enjoy the double experience of food and scenery.
The hot spring group here is highly ornamental, with white mist filling the entire valley. The white steam columns, several meters high, contrast with the blue sky and snow peaks. The sound of jets and sprays is as loud as drumming, rising and falling, very shocking.
✔ The second stop is Zhangde Grassland, an endless wetland grassland where various wildflowers compete for beauty. At the northern end of Zhangde Grassland are the sacred mountains of Zha Jin Jia Bo and Zha Jin Jia Mo. From a distance, the cliffs of Zha Jin Jia Bo Sacred Mountain are rugged, and the vast grassland connects to the majestic sacred mountain.
✔ The third stop is Haimen Stone Sightseeing Car Stop. The next journey can be done on foot or by switching to a convertible car, priced at 20 yuan/person.
Our route is to take the convertible car -- Chopu Temple (visit the temple) -- hike to Sister Lakes to tour Kangzhula Tso and Zhima Yongcuo -- walk the blessing boardwalk -- hike around Chopu Lake for about an hour along the lake boardwalk -- reach the bridgehead stop and take the convertible car back to Haimen Stone -- take the sightseeing bus back to the entrance of the scenic spot.
The surface of Chopu Lake sparkles, fish play in the crystal-clear water, various water birds gather in the center of the lake, and the five-colored prayer flags on the lakeside flutter in the wind.
Walking along the lake boardwalk, the quiet forest boardwalk is surrounded by alpine plants, towering ancient trees, and moss-covered stones. Looking at the lake through the forest, the water and sky blend into one, with a beautiful view at every step.

Sister Lakes in Western Sichuan
The Sister Lakes are known as a pair of pearls on the Batang Plateau.
The Sister Lakes are located between Litang and Batang, about 90 kilometers from Litang and about 80 kilometers from Batang, at an altitude of 4486 meters. They are ancient glacier relics on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, often referred to as the 'Ancient Ice Cap of Daocheng.' From the viewing platform at an altitude of 4900 meters, the two nearly circular water surfaces look like two pieces of jade holding hands in the mountains, or like a pair of bright eyes on the plateau, shining brilliantly under the sunlight, presenting a breathtaking view...

Cuopugou - A place where the beauty of nature culminates
When the weather is good, Cuopugou is definitely worth a visit, and it's best to drive into the scenic area for more freedom. Cuopugou encompasses diverse landscapes such as snow-capped mountains, glaciers, grasslands, forests, lakes, temples, and hot springs. With some luck, you can see national protected animals like the Tibetan Eared Pheasant at Cuopu Lake and Cuopu Temple. If you're even luckier, you might spot a Bharal. The only downside is that the restrooms in the scenic area are not very good, especially at Cuopu Temple, where the lack of modern toilets is quite surprising. The hot springs are genuine, and you can smell the strong sulfur odor even when driving by. I avoided bathing in the hot springs due to fear of altitude sickness and catching a cold. The last stretch of road to Cuopu Temple is narrow and difficult for vehicles to pass, so those with poor driving skills should be cautious. Moreover, at an altitude of 4200 meters, Cuopu Temple can be a challenge for those prone to altitude sickness.

Yala Snow Mountain in Western Sichuan
The mountains and rivers are like wine, a toast to the extraordinary gentleness of the world.
📍Yala Snow Mountain Scenic Area
Set aside most of the day to visit this place, don't just go to the viewing platform, the scenic area won't disappoint you.
⭕️Ticket price is 150, and the scenic area shuttle can only reach the foot of the mountain (Basong), which is a 15km one-way trip, taking about 40 minutes. The rest of the journey requires climbing or horseback riding. The horse teams are not managed by the scenic area; they are independent, and safety is your own responsibility.
⭕️The hiking route is: Basong--Youcuo Wetland (picture 7)--Yala Youcuo (Youcuo Lake, picture 1), with a hiking distance of 7km, following the horse trail, and the round-trip duration is about 3-3.5 hours. Yala Youcuo is at an altitude of 4100m; starting from Youcuo Wetland, there is another sister lake in a different direction, with a hiking distance of 11km, and the time required is unknown.
🔺Hiking enthusiasts, charge ahead! Beginner-friendly.
👉There are no supplies in the scenic area, so you need to prepare your own trail meals.
👉The horse trail is similar to a normal dirt mountain trail, but it gets difficult to walk when you reach Youcuo Wetland, so it's best to wear waterproof and dirt-resistant shoes.
👉You can reach the lakeside of Youcuo Lake by going down the small path on the right side after seeing the prayer flags.
📌If you're not physically fit, you must ride a horse (the round-trip price to Youcuo Lake is 260; to the sister lake is 460), and don't overestimate your strength. If you collapse halfway, rescue will be a big problem.
