This was my first time in the Philippines and I can safely say it has my heart forever. I will most definitely be back! 💯 We spent most of our time in Siargao and what a paradise it was. 😍 From surfing, island hopping and caving, to riding around the island on motorcycles. 🇵🇭 4 Must-Visit Spots in Cebu 　~An area you can cover on foot in half a day~ ① Fort San Pedro (Photos 2-5) Adult admission is 30 pesos. This historic site is the oldest triangular stone fortress in the Philippines. It also features artillery ruins and a lush courtyard. ② Magellan's Cross (Photos 6-7) A wooden cross planted by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan on the island of Cebu in the Philippines in 1521. ③ Santo Niño Church (Photos 8-9) The oldest church in the Philippines, built in 1565 by Spanish colonizers Legazpi and Urdaneta. ④ National Museum of the Philippines-Cebu (Photos 10-15) Admission is free. A historic building designed by American architect William Parsons in 1910. I traveled to the Philippines over the Lunar New Year holiday for a 5-day trip to Cebu and Bohol. It was a super chill itinerary—diving in the ocean in the mornings, then just lounging, eating, and relaxing in the afternoons. 🌟 Pre-trip Tip: Bring plenty of cash! Tuk-tuks, restaurants, and shops on the island only accept cash. Day 1️⃣ After landing, we took a ferry from the Cebu terminal to Bohol. Terminal location: Passenger Terminal 1, PIER 1. We lined up to buy tickets on-site (ferries leave every hour). The ride took 2 hours. Spent the afternoon relaxing at the hotel. 🏨 South Palms Resort (the white sand beach right in front is absolutely stunning). Had dinner at Barwoo (Korean fusion). Day 2️⃣ Island hopping tour. We had to choose between Balicasag and Pamilacan, and we went with the latter. Pamilacan is further away, so it's much less crowded. Left at 6:30 AM for dolphin watching (sadly, we didn't see any due to bad weather). It took an hour to get to Pamilacan. We hit up 3 snorkeling spots (saw Nemo and turtles!). Swam around for 2 hours before heading back. Lunch was at Barwoo (the seafood noodles and pork ribs are massive!). Dinner at La Vara (an amazing Spanish restaurant). 🏨 Panglao Kalikasan Dive Resort (located near Napaling, perfect for diving). Day 3️⃣ Diving Our Oslob whale shark tour got canceled due to rain, so we went deep diving at Napaling instead. Saw massive schools of fish, beautiful corals, and a jackfish tornado. It was so much fun! Spa time: The oil massage at Tiger Spa was super refreshing. Lunch at Jollibee (honestly, pretty meh). Dinner at Monster Crab (huge crabs with fantastic seasoning). 🏨 Mithi Resort (spacious rooms with a private beach and a tiny island. The location is a bit out of the way, though). Day 4️⃣ Fishing Booked a fishing tour, 4 people per boat. After a quick tutorial, we caught two full buckets of fish (rockfish, red sea bream, etc.). We used our catch to make Chongqing hot pot for lunch! Took an afternoon stroll along Alona Beach. We went to Best Sunset Beach for the sunset, but the ground was covered in trash—hard pass, wouldn't recommend 👎. Dinner at Ubeco (their Korean dishes, poke, and spicy seafood were pretty good). 🏨 Mithi Resort. Day 5️⃣ Heading Home Took the ferry back to Cebu. I highly recommend Mr. Crab 🦀—we each got our own massive crab. Both the black pepper and butter garlic flavors were absolutely delicious! This time, I flew from Kuala Lumpur to Cebu, and then took a ferry to Bohol Island. Overall, Bohol beats Boracay. It's less commercialized, yet the hotels are better. The scenery is similar, though Boracay's white sand texture is slightly nicer. However, food in Bohol is cheaper and tastier. The downside is the transportation. Grab is pricey, jeepney routes are limited, and haggling for tuk-tuks is just a hassle. Transportation Tips If you can catch a direct flight to Panglao, absolutely go for it. You can take a bus from Cebu Airport to Pier 1, but it takes forever. Ferry tickets are 900 pesos on-site / 80 pesos more expensive online. Expect to wait in line for at least 30 minutes. Terminal fee is 30 pesos, and baggage is 50 pesos. It takes 2 hours to get to Tagbilaran, and from there, it's a 1-hour Grab ride to Alona. In total, expect to spend over 200 RMB and 5 hours per person. Hotels Batala – Budget-friendly with a nice vibe. Value for money: 7/10. Modala – A proper resort. The pool and beach are absolutely stunning, and the breakfast menu changes daily. The only drawbacks are the slightly remote location and the strict check-in/out times. Motorcycle Rental 350 pesos a day + 120 pesos for gas. The roads are in good condition. Highly recommend renting one to hit up the Tarsier Sanctuary (150 pesos entrance fee) and Chocolate Hills. Foodie Spots · Gerry's – An absolute must-visit every time I'm in the Philippines · BeeFarm – One of the best meals of my life. The taro ice cream, pork ribs, pasta, and shrimp soup are all top-notch. Around 800 pesos per person · Tomar Tapas Bar – A Spanish spot with killer sunset views. Paella and tapas under a purple sky. 4 tapas + paella + drinks for about 2300 pesos. Totally blows Spanish restaurants back home out of the water · Bougainvillea – Not impressed. It's pricier, and the taste is definitely a step down · IceFlakes – Highly recommend the mango coconut shaved ice and traditional Filipino halo-halo

One of the places I was most looking forward to during my trip to Cebu was Nalusuan Island. It's a tiny island accessible by a 45 to 60-minute drive from Cebu City or the Mactan area to the pier, followed by a 20 to 30-minute boat ride. The entrance fee was around 300 pesos per person. Watching the water’s color become increasingly vivid as the boat approached the island, I finally felt like my vacation had truly begun. Upon arriving, the first thing that caught my eye was the unbelievably clear, transparent emerald water. It looked beautiful in photos, but the actual scenery was absolutely breathtaking. The view created by the pristine white sand and crystal-clear water was so magnificent that just standing there taking it all in felt incredibly therapeutic. Strolling slowly along the beach and feeling the ocean breeze instantly put my mind at ease. The island isn't just about the ocean—it's dotted with lush green trees and relaxing walking paths, making it a joy to explore at a leisurely pace. The backdrop is so gorgeous wherever you go that you'll naturally find yourself reaching for your camera constantly. Although there were quite a few people, it didn't feel chaotic at all; instead, it had a laid-back vibe of everyone enjoying their vacation together. If you want to fully experience crystal-clear waters and a true resort atmosphere in Cebu, this is a must-visit destination. It’s a beautifully stunning place that will stay with me long after the trip is over.

The biggest highlight of Sumilon Island is its "sandbar," a magical path of sand that reveals itself with the ebb and flow of the tide. Strolling along this strip of sand as crystal-clear waves gently lap against both sides, you get the surreal sensation of walking right on water. The water clarity here is top-notch, even among the islands around Cebu. Just rent some snorkeling gear and dive in, and you'll instantly spot vibrant tropical fish and gorgeous coral reefs. Thanks to the large stretches of shallow water, even weak swimmers can safely enjoy this tropical paradise. Every destination gave a different experience, from busy city life to quiet beaches and clear water. In my experience, Filipino people are very kind and welcoming. Another big advantage is English. Many people speak it well, even outside big cities, so communication was never a problem. I often fly with AirAsia, which has direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Manila and Cebu. Manila airport is large and busy, so it is better to arrive early. Once, I missed my flight because of long lines. Cebu airport feels more modern and easier to navigate. I also tried different airlines. With Cebu Pacific, I had several delays and schedule changes, so I now prefer Philippine Airlines, which feels more reliable in my experience. Domestic flights are affordable. If you book early, tickets can cost around 15–20 USD, which makes it easy to travel between islands. Before arrival, you need to complete the eTravel form. Officially, this should be done within 72 hours before your flight, but in my experience, it is also possible to complete it at the airport if needed. At immigration, the process is quite straightforward. Officers usually ask a few simple questions, such as the purpose of your visit, your return ticket, and where you plan to stay. During my first trips, I was asked these questions more carefully. Over time, as I had more entry stamps, the process became faster and easier. One important detail is that having a return or onward ticket is important, especially for your first visits. It shows that you do not plan to overstay. Also, it is better to have the address of your accommodation ready, just in case. After passport control, you will need to scan your eTravel QR code. Once this is done, you can leave the airport without any issues. Citizens of many countries can enter visa-free. For Russians, the stay is 30 days with an option to extend at a local immigration office. This process is quite common and makes the country popular for long-term travelers and remote workers. Overall, the Philippines is quite affordable. Accommodation, food, and transport are reasonably priced. After many trips, I realized I return not only for places, but for the feeling. Life feels simpler, people feel closer, and you stop feeling like a tourist. That is why I came back eleven times, and I will likely return again.

Kumusta 🇵🇭 As a child, I once read a story about Filipino healers that stayed in my memory forever. Later, I heard stories about people from all over the world traveling to the Philippines searching for love, a new life, or simply a different atmosphere. Back then, I could barely find the country on a map. Today, I truly love it despite all its imperfections and contrasts. The greatest value of the Philippines is its people. The kindness, openness, and positivity of Filipinos can genuinely be an example for many others. Since my first trip in November 2024, and after relocating to Kuala Lumpur shortly afterward, I have already visited the Philippines nine times. And I hope many more trips are still ahead. Most of my trips are now on the Kuala Lumpur–Cebu route after flights resumed in late 2025, although there are many daily flights to Manila as well. The flight takes around 3.5 hours depending on weather and landing conditions. I usually fly with AirAsia because prices are often very affordable, especially without checked baggage. But there is one important detail: at Kuala Lumpur Terminal 2, carry-on luggage is weighed before document control, and staff can be quite strict even with small excess weight. Experienced travelers probably already know how to deal with that. Before arrival, travelers need to complete the eTravel form within 3 days before departure using the official website or app. After registration, you receive a QR code that should be saved or screenshotted. Citizens of many countries can enter visa-free for up to 30 days, although there are exceptions, so always check official immigration information before flying. A return or onward ticket is important because airlines and immigration officers may ask for it. From my experience, the more Philippine stamps I had in my passport, the fewer questions immigration officers asked. During my latest arrival, I was not asked anything at all. Usually the questions are very basic: purpose of visit, length of stay, hotel, and return ticket. For transportation, I actively use Grab for both taxis and food delivery. Public transport infrastructure is relatively limited in many places, so Grab is often the easiest and most comfortable option while still remaining affordable. Cash is important because cards are not accepted everywhere. Interestingly, exchange rates at Manila airport can actually be quite good, while Cebu airport rates are usually less favorable. For domestic flights, I personally experienced several delays and cancellations with Cebu Pacific and Cebgo, so whenever possible I prefer Philippine Airlines or AirAsia. For me, the Philippines means sunshine, islands, beautiful nature, and some of the warmest and friendliest people I have ever met. Located on Santiago Bay—a public beach accessible to everyone without an entrance fee—Pito's Restaurant is famous as a local spot with a great atmosphere and a top dining spot in Camotes Island, which is currently gaining attention as a budget-friendly travel destination. Apparently, "Pito's" is the name of the owner. There are many businesses in the Philippines named after people like this. Here is the menu for Piot's Restaurant as of April 3, 2025. You can see the price of San Miguel beer, right? It is 70 pesos (approximately 1,750 won). These days, wherever you go in the Philippines, most places charge over 100 pesos, so I was very happy to find that I could still enjoy delicious San Miguel Pilsen at a reasonable price. The prices for other dishes are also incredibly generous compared to Cebu City. Before the ordered dishes arrived, I drank a refreshing San Miguel Pilsen while gazing at the beautiful Santiago Beach to blow away the heat. While I was enjoying a glass of beer, the ordered dishes started arriving one by one. This is the Garlic Rice Platter. Platter Garlic Rice 80 pesos (approx. 2,000 won) This is the Fried Squid Calamari. Calamari 150 pesos (approx. 3,750 won) This is the Sizzling Beef.
