Aranjuez — A City Where You Can Hear the Melody
Did you know? Many people first "encounter" Aranjuez through the classic world-famous piece, the "Concierto de Aranjuez" 🎻. But this small Spanish town has long been quietly cherished by painters and poets.
Composer Joaquín Rodrigo, though blind from childhood, used musical notes to sketch the gentle sounds of the palace gardens' flowing water, soft breezes, and tranquil moments. The melody of the concerto’s second movement carries not only his enduring love for his wife Victoria but also a tender devotion to life itself 💖.
Originally composed for guitar and orchestra, this piece had no lyrics. However, the famous second movement (Adagio) was later set to words, giving rise to several vocal versions. The most well-known is "En Aranjuez con tu amor," passionately performed by artists like Plácido Domingo and Andrea Bocelli, as if their voices awaken the sleeping romance in the gardens.
In fact, before the music, painter Santiago Rusiñol had already captured the gardens, fountains, and tree-lined paths here with his brush, painting Aranjuez as a serene and poetic scroll.
Beyond artistic inspiration, this small town holds many surprises: the decorations of the Aranjuez Royal Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site, are dotted with Oriental elements 🀄, and every spring, the local fresh Aranjuez strawberries 🍓 are sweet and juicy, as if the city’s gentleness has crystallized in them.
