October 17, 2023
We as a family travelled to Aliathon Holiday Village in Paphos on 30th September to 11th October 2023. We had 4 rooms in the Ionian for the 11 nights. Our age range was 3 to 76 years. This is my opinion of the hotel from my own perspective and not from that of my family. The Holiday village is a pretty place and does have everything you need. There are people getting married and lots of large family groups, the hotel is for families with young children and not for teenagers who like activities during the day and good entertainment in the evenings. The young teenagers quite happily ran around the corridors to play ‘knock and run’ both in the day and night. Check In: was after midnight and because I had completed the check in form online before arriving check in was quick, we were soon given our keys for our rooms but some of the keys didn’t work. Rooms: at first glance the room was clean and looked comfortable. Further inspection the next day was that the hotel is in need of repair. The bedding was stained and the shower tiles extremely slippery, we had no mat but other rooms did. The fire doors had been removed on the first floor and wall paper seemed to be stuck on and then falling off again. The lifts were dirty and sticky. The whole place is less than a 4 star. In one of our rooms when the curtains were pulled together the whole curtain rail, curtains and plaster fell to the floor, it was later repaired but I’m so glad our 3 year old wasn’t in that room when it all fell. We asked for a kettle that never materialised, the coffee isn’t brilliant. Food: the food was plentiful, although not hot enough, we could find something to eat each day and the desserts were amazing. Staff: some of the staff are fantastic, the two sisters in the restaurant were very friendly and polite the men driving the golf buggies also, but a woman on reception was rude. Entertainment: was geared to the very young children, with not a lot going on in the day and evening was hit and miss. The hypnotist failed so was sent home, however, the entertainment team did work hard and tried to entertain. Pool: we’re down right dangerous, the floor of the main pool was coming away and one of our party cut his foot open, another day a young lad had cut feet. In the children’s pool one of the slides has a lip at the bottom and one child was taken to hospital. There needs to be twice as many lifeguards. There was also a serious incident while we were there in the main pool, which left a poor family devastated and everyone else in shock. Following that when asking about it, we felt we were basically being told to shut up. We learnt later on our arrival home through the papers what really happened to the young lad involved. I will be emailing the hotel with my suggestion around health and safety and safe guarding children. To close if you go to this hotel you will either love it or hate it, I know some people return year after year. For us to get to the shop and
