My wife and I had a very nice 4 night stay at Le Meridien Isle of Pines. The hotel is just a little bit tired, it has a bit of the patina of being used. Some broken tiles, a few gaps in the joins etc. But overall it is quite lovely and daily maintenance is very good. The cleanliness was faultless. I'd read of ants and cockroaches in some reviews. Absolute rubbish. It is very well kept. The location is superb. The facilities like kayaks, snorkelling gear, pool and restaurant were very good indeed. Our cabin on the river was lovely and the bed superbly comfortable. The natural pool had some of the best snorkelling, the variety of marine life and some of the corals were amazing. Fantastic. Swimming, kayaking and snorkelling off the beach was also great. My only disappointment was the evening meals. Our first night I had a tateless over cooked fish dish. The next two nights were very good. On the last night, a Saturday, they have a buffet or you eat in your room. The buffet was 4950 francs ($75 Australian $) each. We don't eat that much and with drinks it was a pretty expensive meal. The quality of the food was very good but it wasn't what we wanted and there is no choice. The staff were lovely. Some can't converse in English but they and we tried and many are fluent in both.

I stayed in a garden view room and it was a very beautiful room. I've stayed at other hotels, and while the other hotels only had shower rooms, this one had a bathtub, so it was nice and spacious. Unfortunately, there was no toothbrush as an amenity. It was nice that we could rent out things like saps and canoes for free.

I stayed at the only 5 star hotel in Nouméa! The location is by the sea, and relaxing on the terrace felt very comfortable! The spa is also famous and comfortable! The breakfast was also very delicious and I would love to stay there again!

I stayed at Meridian because I wanted to go to Pissing Nature. The plan I booked included a transfer fee and a paired massage. The massage felt good and my husband was satisfied. There is only one restaurant so there are no options for meals. I don't think it's delicious at all, but it's expensive. The overall atmosphere of the hotel is very romantic, so I would like to stay there again when I go to Ile des Pins.

You can read prior reviews - dated hotel, poor shower drainage, limited food choices, bad pool condition etc. it is what it is for a very remote location. Of course the hotel could and should spend the money and give the whole place a much needed facelift. The point of visiting here is for the location - the magic of IDP. The hotel is on Oro Bay - the surrounding beaches are all lagoons - so amazing waters that are calm and without ocean currents. You can kayak or paddle board (or walk during low tide) for quite a far distance out from the beach. It is serene and calm and other-worldly. The main advantage of this hotel over the others is the accessibility to La Piscine Naturelle (Natural Lagoon) which is a 20 minute walk away. You do need to wade along the river banks at some points so low tide (mid morning) is easier. The Piscine is just like a large swimming pool. Snorkelling is average here in New Caledonia. The hotel’s snorkelling equipment is old and the goggles leaked. But the experience is again magical and serene. There will be lots of people though but it is big enough. I do highly recommend the day tour to Brush Island - which can be booked through the hotel. Please see my review on that. So yes - the luxury hotel experience could have been better - but it was definitely worth visiting IDP and experiencing its beauty and magic. And kudos to the staff - they were are friendly and helpful.

Disappointed. This was supposed to be our honeymoon and we thought we’d splashed out on a 5-star resort. This was far from it. We stayed in a bungalow. Made a booking for a massage only to turn up and be told it wasn’t operating. Tried to use the gym but much of the equipment was out of order (treadmill, bike etc). Room was tired and rundown. Shower overflowed, needed jandals and wasn’t hot. Weather was average, which didn’t help, but the hotel didn’t offer any entertainment options or things to do during rainy times. Food was average at best. Everything at the hotel was very expensive and not good quality. Staff not overly friendly or helpful. I wouldn’t recommend coming here. Spend your time and money elsewhere - go somewhere like Fiji!

Let me start with the positive. The beach is beautiful !! Sadly the negatives are more. Being in the minority as an Australian & not speaking fluent French can be a bit of a downfall. But the staff do try a little to speak English. We were so excited to stay in the beach bungalow and when we got inside we were disappointed that it really wasn’t 5 star - it just looked run down. This is not a luxury 5 star resort. The shower overflowed every time we used it and water went everywhere in the bathroom. We were showering in ankle high water. The toilet was wobbly like the whole thing could tip. There was a lot of dust. The deck needed to be upgraded / it was worn down. The breakfast buffet had flies everywhere and inedible. The only thing we ate was an omelette freshly made. The dinner menu was ok. The pool was nice but would have looked so much nicer without the ropes around it and it didn’t look like an infinity pool. We did go to the naturals pool & it was beautiful / we followed one of the reviews here how to get to it & didn’t go the way the hotel said. I highly recommend the way we were told here. I think I wouldn’t go back here. Next time I’ll try a 5 star resort in Fiji. Unless this resort is upgraded to a higher standard. It’s really more 4 Star.
