The magic of Vis and the Pomalo Hotel hit me the moment I arrived! My partner and I were greeted in the gorgeous lobby by Dario, the general manager. Incredibly friendly and funny, he offered us cold towels and lemon-spiked ice water as he checked us in and told us about the hotel. Pomalo feels like a cross between the most incredible Airbnb you’ve been to, with all the amenities and services of a luxury hotel. After just 45 minutes unpacking in our gorgeous room overlooking a quiet and picturesque square, my partner and I decided to change our travel plans and stay in the hotel an extra night. Every single detail in the hotel has been lovingly crafted by the owner, Lulu. From the winged sculpture of victory at the top of the staircase, to beach towels and bikes, Lulu has thought of everything. She and her adorable dog Artie greeted us every morning as we drank lattes in the courtyard, from the coffee shop next door. Coffee and croissants are complimentary every morning, but don’t be surprised if Lulu walks to your table with a seasonal fruit plate and warm banana muffins she just finished baking. Every night when we returned from dinner, the courtyard was lit with candles, while music wafted out from the lobby. Our first night at Pomalo, we spent the evening chatting with Lulu and her friend Bruno, a 25-year resident of Vis. He’d wandered over after finishing a day’s work at his leather shop a few doors over, and he regaled us with stories from his past and from his time in Vis. A memory I won’t soon forget! I’ve always been the kind of person who wants to travel to a new destination rather than returning to a place I’ve already been. But Vis is different. The energy and magic of this place, made even better by our time at Pomalo, makes me sure I’ll return someday. Thank you Lulu, Dario, Petra and everyone at Pomalo for making our stay so memorable!

As soon as you arrive at Hotel Pomalo your troubles just evaporate. We arrived very early to an incredibly warm and friendly welcome from the Californian owner, Loulou, and her lovely poodle Artemis. The room was ready so she was happy for us to check in early. We enjoyed some complementary drinks from the vintage Dr. Pepper vending machine whilst the passports were quickly scanned. Our room was delightful, overlooking the square with original shutters over all the windows. The room was freshly decorated with a large floor area and good AC (much needed in the summer heat). The building was recently renovated so everything was new or in perfect order. The bed was a super king by UK standards and very comfortable. I took a note of the bedding company used as the sleep was superb and the linen sheets were just amazing. The hotel felt more like a friends house because the staff and other guests were all just so relaxed and friendly. Every time we would bump into the team when out and about they would check if there was anything we wanted or needed, or if they could give any advice. Really top notch service. There is large artwork on the walls, vintage Americana, and antique pieces mixed well, and a communal breakfast table, though we enjoyed taking breakfast outside each morning on the square. Candle lanterns are placed outside each evening, making the setting all the more beautiful, and we enjoyed wine on the square as the sunset - a must. We were lucky enough one evening to return home to a male choir practising in one corner of the square as the acoustics are so good. Everyone just sat in silence save for the baritone voices harmonising in the corner. A beautiful and infrequent experience but one that adds to the magic of the Pomalo. I can’t express how much this island and hotel chime with my vibe. It is a relaxed and mellow environment where your stresses leave you. We were not the only ones, some other guests just cancelled their entire schedule so they could just stay at the Pomalo for longer. I was in no way surprised by their choice and wished I could have done similar. Can’t wait to go back!

Four of us were recommended to this boutique hotel when we visited Vis. The hotel is brand new and renovated to the best details of warmth, charm and comfort. It is beautiful. Breakfast is a la carte with good coffee, fruits, cereal and croissants. Soft drinks and water are available anytime with no cost. The service here is personable. The proprietor, Lulu is an amazing host, helpful, gracious and kind. Can’t wait to be back!

I usually never leave reviews on stays but I had to share my experience in order to make people aware of the unsatisfactory experience which I had never experienced before in my life. Considering that this hotel is charging us around 450€ per night we expected that we will get value of the service we pay for. To begin with, soon as we arrived with my friend the staff in the hotel seemed super friendly, they explained everything we asked for, the young male and female that were working in the hotel were very helpful and we had good impression. We was told that the check in starts from 3pm so we decided to go on the beach. When I went back from the beach around 3pm and started the check in I was met by the owner of the hotel, elderly lady from Los Angeles. She was doing the check in for at least half hour and meanwhile talking with other guests around. I was told that we had to leave our key in one box at the check in desk which was full of keys from all the rooms which was very strange since the doors of the hotel were open at all times and in my opinion was very unsecure. We told the lady that we have several allergies for the breakfast, since there was not much options we said we can have fruits, smoothies and gluten free granula. They reasured us that there will be fruits on the breakfast such as watermelon, apples etc. the next morning they just served 2 portions of cornflakes with approximately 5 cuts of berries on top and when I asked for more fruit she said it was limited and impossible to get delivery on the island despite the fact that there was a green market full of all sort of fruits and vegetables just 1 minute away from the hotel. We asked if it’s possible to cancel the breakfast in order to eat somewhere else and she said that it won’t make price difference since it was a free will of her to provide breakfast for the guests. Let me remind you that we payed 450€ per night for the same breakfast and bed. Next thing was that we asked if it’s possible to change the bed sheet on daily bases since I had issues with my face and was advised by the doctor to sleep on clean sheets every day. After we asked one of the workers she said she will ask the owner. 5 minutes later she came upstairs in our room and started offending and criticizing us, the last thing she said after not letting me get a word was that if we are not happy with her rules and terms we need to leave. We were shocked of her behavior and the fact that such a person is running a hotel. We have been traveling all over the world in all kind of hotels and never had such experience. The whole situation which happened in few hours was terrible and ruined all our expectations and we had no other option left than to leave because we didn’t like her attitude and the feeling of strict rules being imposed in order to continue our stay. As i mentioned earlier there was no fruits on breakfast therefore we went to buy from the green market near by. When I came back in the hotel to leave th

Sometimes you stay somewhere so perfect you are reluctant to share a review for fear of it becoming so popular that you never manage to find a room when you want to return. Pomalo is that place. There are so many reasons to love it. The utterly beautiful decor, simple but so stylish and luxurious. The breakfasts of homemade smoothies, artisan bread and fresh fruit and granola. The wonderful location on Vis and the hotel bikes you can take to cycle along the promenade of Vis Town and to the beach. But really what makes it so special is the owner LouLou and her ability to make you feel utterly at home and welcome. She has clearly invested her heart and soul in Vis and Pomalo and her love of both shines through. It’s all simply captivating. If you’re looking for an experience that is good for the soul, you should stay at Pomalo.

10 of us stayed in this lovely hotel recently for a friends wedding on the island. It’s been beautifully and sympathetically renovated by its current owner and there were some lovely extra touches. All the staff and host were super friendly & helpful (we were a big crowd all having breakfast at the same time!) and the free bike use was great for us all to visit the local area & beaches. The hotel location itself was ideal for proximity to the marina, bars & restaurants etc, but also felt secluded & quiet. Overall I would highly recommend a stay here & we hope to return one day!
