The ferry arrives on the private pier of the hotel and from this moment we were looked after so well by the friendly and happy staff. The rooms are comfortable, clean and spacious. Our room had a balcony with a gorgeous view over the lake. The bathrooms need a little attention but the new owner assures us that is on the renovations agenda. Breakfast was excellent- lots of choice and the dining area overlooks the lovely pool and gardens.

A very enjoyable three-day stay at this comfortable, clean, friendly boutique hotel. I had a large room with a balcony and a beautiful view of the lake. Excellent breakfast included. Great location right on the lake and close to numerous restaurants in Tuk Tuk. Manager and staff helpful and accommodating. Very good value.

We had a very pleasant stay with this boutique hotel, just next to Lake Toba. The staffs are all very friendly and nice, the receptionists speak very good English, which are great help to us! They are so helpful for our communications with our local drivers! The hotel manager is very responsive and hands-on, she is always available to answer to our needs. Breakfast is also one of the best among the local hotels we have stayed in various areas around Indonesia. Highly recommend to family travelers!

The staff is very friendly and helpful. We had a lot of questions and all were answered with patience and enthusiasm. Perfect WiFi and very nice location. We loved the breakfast as well. Also you can (re)fill your water bottle for free throughout the hotel, which was very nice as well. Def recommend staying here!

I booked rooms in this hotel literally just based on the spectacular view I saw on their *********** page. I read other people reviews on *********** and notice to get the view that I saw on ***********, I must book their most expensive room. So I did. Without reading what facilities they offered. I was there with my parents in their early 70's and my husband. Check in was smooth, the receptionists team was amazing I cannot fault them. I once watch them trying to get their points accross to western guests who was trying to book/ check-in. Yes, their english was not perfect, but I was so proud of them being so brave and tried their best to try to explain their point to the confused looking guests. I would've help, but I see no need for me to, they got it. As u can tell, I love the staff, they're amazing! Receptionists, housekeeper(poor young guy had to carry my mother's heavy suitcase down the stairs! Bless him!), peeps at breakfast who always greet my family with smile and kind words, and the amazing manager who was always presence during breakfast, making sure that her guests are happy and taken care of. And the view! Gosh, it really was spectacular, I wish the balcony was not made of half wall, but glass fence, so I could sit there all day doing my writing while looking at that gorgeous view uninterrupted. For breakfast, we always pick Asian cuisine(which was tasty by the way! Well done team!), the western cuisine was not so appealing I am afraid. I think it was only toast and jam, I don't think they have omelette(or any eggs cooked differently), but not really sure now. I suggest to add eggs(omelette, fried or boiled) if you haven't(so sorry if u actually already have this on the menu, I can't remember anymore now) and cereal. I think my only complaint, and this is probably quite important for many people looking for a comfortable stay, is the lack of air-conditioner in the room. Had I know and read it carefully before I book rooms in this hotel, I might not book it in the first place. I spoken to the manager about it and she mentioned about AC isn't healthy, although I can understand this, but fan isn't really a healthier option either. Yes, the air was cool around 20ish degree celcius in the evening, but only once it was 8pm or something. And yes, it kept going down to under 20 degrees at some point, but that is the air outside, we don't sleep outside. If you have a thermostat in each bedrooms, u will find out that inside was way much warmer than the outside and opening the windows or door while sleeping wasn't really an option due to the mosquitos. So I hope, when the budget allows, the owner can upgrade the rooms with AC. Some of the room, if not all, thank you for reading and your hospitality. Let us know when the AC are installed, we will then definitely be back.

I am writing this review as a German traveler, traveling in beginning of June 2022, after the borders were opened recently. Therefore, it is understandable, that not everything works perfectly yet. Zoe's Paradise is really a paradise. It is run by a Swiss/Indonesian couple. I was very warm welcomed and was offered a free upgrade to a room with balcony. I had a very good time there, with all staff being extremely friendly and helpful, e.g., when checking possible ways to get to Medan from Parapat (Spoiler: it's not very easy at the Moment). The hotel is clean, the rooms good. However, my bathroom was comparably small. But okay. The pool and its facilities are also nice and clean, with two slides. The hotel aims for sustainability, which I can fully support. You see this e.g. by the absence of AC and the shampoo dispenser instead of little one-time bottles. Very nice. When I left, I was given an impressive local present. That was really cool and again underlines the familiarity in this hotel. In general the hotel is very good equipped with things I often miss in a 4* hotel, e.g. slippers, a socket extension, pool towels ready, extra pillows.... Once again, thank you very much for this great stay with you. Hope to see you soon again. In summary: + Very friendly and helpful staff + It's a very nice feeling, that all staff know your name + Spacious room, but small bathroom + Very nice pool area with two slides and stuff for kids to play. + Western standard in several areas (e.g. socket extension cord... Jap, the small things make the stay there more comfortable) + Good breakfast, with lots of variety in fruits. But providing more butter and jam/honey would be good. + Stable WiFi, good water pressure and overall well organized - there was quite a lot of rubbish (water bottle etc.) and plants in the water in front of the hotel. This surely not comes from the hotel, but cleaning it would be better and makes a better feeling when starting to swim. - lunch/dinner food, as there is no chef currently. So there is only nasi goreng and mie goreng available. However, I was told that they are currently hiring a chef. - laundry service, it returned half of my clothes still being dirty. The management excused a lot for this issue and will talk to their laundry providers to improve. >>>>> In summary summary: I can highly recommend staying there and hope that with more tourist coming, some shortcomings are removed automatically. If I travel to Lake Toba again, I will definitely stay at Zoe's again, as it was a very open and friendly stay.

Great local experience at Zoe’s. Well and truly open after the pandemic. Basic local accommodation, but absolutely spotless and with a superb lakeside location with views across Lake Toba and its own ferry jetty. Short stroll to Tuk Tuk restaurants.
