Overall, this hotel is highly recommended for self-driving tourists because the house is very unique, the single-family cabin villa has a great view, the boss is very nice, and the food is delicious. The hotel is full every day of the month. It is quite inconvenient for independent travelers. Taking a taxi from the station costs 2,700 yen. If you take a bus to the scenic spot, there are very few buses every day. It takes 10-15 minutes to walk up and down the mountain, and there are big cars passing by. There were many tourists on the group bus at Lake Toya. On the first night, we watched the fireworks until 9:30. Unexpectedly, there were no taxis. I was embarrassed and had to call the boss. The boss was also surprised that there were no taxis. Fortunately, he went down the mountain behind him. They came to pick us up and they were very polite and took no money. The next day we went to the mountaintop observation platform. It took 1.5 hours to hike. The boss offered to send us up there after we finished checking out. We drove up there in ten minutes. Unfortunately, the shuttle bus from the top of the mountain to the next attraction is stuck and there are very few buses every day. In short, it is recommended that independent travelers must stay near the Hot Spring Street Station, otherwise it will be very inconvenient.

The onsen town at the south end of Toya Lake has the usual collection of big, bigger, and older onsen resort hotels, all with a nice view across the lake and Mt Yotei in the background. We wanted and found something different in Kitsutsuki Canadian Club, a small inn with well maintained log buildings on the western quiet side of this very scenic area. Though one of the websites we looked at indicated the room was on the small side, it was actually quite standard size and included twin beds and separate shower/big tub. Both the tub and the bedroom had views of Lake Toya. Compliments for dinner and breakfast which we found very good; some purely Japanese, others a western-Japanese fusion. That’s what the owner seems to be going for, with interesting art and other cultural decor in the main building/dining room. A Canadian log cabin eliciting an international vibe in a most scenic Japanese place.

A lovely family-run inn, a Canadian log house that takes advantage of the vast lakeside grounds for a pension. The view from the balcony was spectacular, and he enjoyed home-cooked meals in the dining room, which was decorated with his father's handmade wooden tools.

I had invited a friend to stay with me, so my friend was very happy. The food was delicious, the room was cute, and the environment was well-equipped, so everything was good. Thank you. However, I would have been even happier if they had said to me, ``You can have as many refills as you want, so please feel free to ask for refills'' with the bread for dinner, rice, and miso soup for breakfast. That was very disappointing.
