Daiwa Roynet Hotel Tokushima Ekimae

The hotel is just located on the left side of the station. It’s really wonderful. There is also a convenience store located at the ground floor which also makes our lives so much easier. The room (Hollywood twin) is a large and spacious room that can easily accommodate the opening of 2 large suitcases (28 inch). The bathroom is also generous in space, and we could actually move around freely and change clothes in the toilet for once (as compared to other chain hotels in Japan). It has all the comforts and amenities of a proper graded hotel, but the air conditioning was poor. Opened the windows but still felt a little warm throughout the night. The other minor “issue” I observed was how they tried to “automate” the check-in which is a failure in my opinion. Automation is to reduce workflow/ manual work required by parties. However in this case, I had to go to the reception desk for them to make copies of our passport and issue a card (to be used at the check-in machine). Thereafter I have to walk to the machine and insert the card, press a bunch of buttons to be issued the room and room key. So from a customer perspective I’m actually troubled twice, because I need to make 2 stops before actually getting my room. So what’s the point of this check-in machine? Fail to see the benefits of it.

It was our very first time in Shikoku area of Japan - the hotel is frankly a bit dated but we appreciated the hospitality and the great selection of breakfast (both western and Japanese style were available). I think we went during the off season so there seemed to be only few hotel guests staying - at least having breakfast when we were at the breakfast room. The ”Wa -fuu” Japanese style Tatami room (10 tatamis) on the 10th? floor was nice and roomy which we enjoyed. Though the bathroom is TINY - felt like you were in a tiny boat or airplane. Free wifi worked fine. Good amenities - including free bottled water. Tea. mini-fridge. They also provide you with free local cellphone in the room so you could bring it with you for local phone calls or do some simple wifi search/gps usage being a tourist. For people visiting from out of the country without a good global cell plan- this is a great amenity to have.

It was a quiet and clean hotel, close to about 5 minutes walk from Tokushima Station. The parking lot was in the building opposite the road and it was difficult to understand, but it was good to be free. Breakfast became a restaurant on the 1 floor, but there was a sense of liberation. There were various types and it was good. I think the cospa was good overall.

The next morning departure was early, ”it is unpleasant that the hotel breakfast cannot be eaten”, and when I was looking for a cheap place for a night stay, this hit. There are also single, double, twin and family rooms, but if you can sleep cheaply, I recommend ”dormitory”. Toilet shower washbasin is shared. 2 staircase beds lined up, Only the space in the bed is my space (there is no doubt if you can imagine the capsule hotel). The price is the weekday before the consecutive holiday of 11 late month I stayed, the dormitory is 1 night tax 2, It was 500 yen (probably the price will fluctuate depending on the time). I think it is a hotel that can be added to one of the choices if you can walk from Tokushima Station 10 minutes and just sleep. And the mineral water free drink (any bottles in a PET bottle) was an unexpected service.

If you stay separately from an old inn, the room is large, affordable, with a large bath, fresh flowers, and well cleaned, which is very good. I also like the atmosphere of the landlady. Since it is an old inn, it smells a little cigarette, the corridors are dim, and the carpets are peeled off. However, considering this size and degree of freedom, I think it is more than the price. It's about an annex, so I wonder if there used to be a main building.
