I traveled to Todos Santos alone to unwind and couldn't have asked for a better exerience. I stayed at Desierto Azul for five nights and was seriously considering extending my trip just to stay there longer. I don't typically write reviews, but this place is too special not to share. The property: the owners did an incredible job creating a tranquil and beautiful home-away-from-home. The grounds are gorgeous; the pool is sublime; the rooms are tasteful, comfortable, and spacious. I'm a designer with a discerning eye, and I can assure you there was not a detail unconsidered. Truly everything about this property is delightful: the colorful tile, the poured concrete floors and inset nooks and shelves, the soft orangic linen curatins and bedding, the ceramic and enamel serveware, the landscaping and stone-lined curving walkways, even the curtain rods and railings they've made from natural, perfectly imperfect wood. The eco consciousness: If this is not your thing, then no problem, you'll stay in a beautiful hotelito and won't feel like you are compromising any luxury. If this IS your thing, it is such a treat to notice how little waste is generated. From the reusable coffee carafe and filter, to the little mini bar treats that come in refillable jars, to the fact that – OMG – i didn't have to buy a single plastic bottle of water my entire stay. Bring a big reusable bottle and have a constant supply of delicious filtered water with you at all times. The hospitality: I wasn't prepared for just how comfortable and taken care of I was going to feel here. Jose, the manager, is a sparkling gem of a human – with eyes to match. He made me laugh daily, anticipated my needs, provided thoughtful recommendations, and talked to me (and everyone else staying there) like friends. I spent less time with Fabrizio and Nilu, but they are equally kind and quick to offer help. Their creativity can be found everywhere you look, and every few days you encounter one of their adorable and well-mannered daughters. They have done such a wonderful job creating a space that feels like home – the home of my Baja dreams. The location: I really loved being a little outside of "town." I would recommend having a car. There is just so much to see and enjoy when you can easily get yourself around – and it is truly easy to get around this area. The restaurants in Las Tunas (just a couple minutes from the hotel) are excellent and the vibe is so relaxed and desert-beachy. You can get into Todos Santos in less than 10 minutes for shops and more (great) restaurants, and to any number of local beaches in two to 20 minutes. I went to a new beach everyday – they're all unique and offer a little something different. The hotel itself sits in a tranquil little cactus field and is so quiet and mellow. I would leave my doors open (screens closed) in the evenings and mainly heard the chirp of insects. I could keep going, but this is probably enough :) Do yourself a favor and stay at this dream
