Courtyard Tashkent

Tashkent|1.15km from JIZZAH OIL GROUP
This was our first visit to Uzbekistan with an open mind on what we would end up doing in Tashkent. We took the safer bet by starting our country tour with the Marriott brand we know well. We were not disappointed! This is a well-run, spacious, clean hotel and was an ideal choice to begin with. Predictably, the décor is totally “Marriott!”, so lacks a Central Asian feel to it, but that is as the brand dictates. In the kitchen they make up for that with an excellent range of menu items that spans great local Uzbeki dishes and high-quality international cuisine. There is clearly a lot of pride in the kitchen shown by the attention given to good presentation. The breakfast buffet is good too. It would be good if the hotel made more effort to promote Uzbek wines at the Lobby Bar, rather than focus on the more expensive international ones. In the restaurant, there is only a limited choice of local wine compared to other places and no wine at all in the 8th Floor bar. These are all minor quibbles though. It is the attitude of the staff that makes this hotel work best. Everyone is keen to give a good professional impression in each of their roles. The reception and restaurant staff were without exception universally polite, efficient and friendly. We were ever so thankful to Shuhrat at the front desk who got us well-organised from the start with a local SIM card, dealing with money and making helpful suggestions on how to tackle Tashkent and then organise the rest of our stay not only in Tashkent buy beyond. He is soft-spoken and gracious and a good listener. He could read our preferences quickly. On our return, it was Shuhrat who organised a very good driver/guide to visit the mountains and encouraged us to take a dip to go to the beach on Lake Charvak and enjoy a dip there. A big thank you to everyone at the Tashkent Courtyard for helping to make this one of the best exploratory vacations we ever had.

Firstly, they didn’t register a reservation for a few days from my colleague, although we can prove that the call was and talked with the administrator! Secondly, the administrator does not know what to do, his colleagues constantly call and consult on every issue, he does not speak Russian and does not understand what he is talking about at all. Thirdly - when talking about the fact that I settled in for 5 days and the payment will be from my Company after the first day of my stay - I was surprised that they put my things out of the room and told me to go up to the laundress myself and collect my things. “Here, go and pick up your own things, they are in the laundress over there.” Fourth, slander, the staff says that I allegedly was in another Velvet Hotel and it turns out that they claimed that I would move out of the Sapphire Hotel to another hotel, threatened with surveillance cameras and claimed that I was there. Fifthly, they talk boorishly to me! I was unhappy with the situation that my things were put out of the room without warning and in any case I was nervous. But you are a hotel management, if you work in the hospitality industry, you should have a different approach to guests. For slander there is an article and the law on my side!

I have been in this hotel for 2 days. The rooms are so clean and well designed. Excellent service and comfortable rooms. Also it was an unforgettable breakfast there. I wish to have opportunity to stay in this hotel one more time because it's really comfortable and not expensive. At the same time there are wonderful spa & pool.

I think it’s pretty good. I don’t know the meaning of those who gave bad reviews. It’s more expensive to stay in a hotel in Uzbekistan. The staff will call. There is a Korean food opposite the hotel, and the fried chicken is very good. Better rooms in Uzbekistan start at more than 500, and they may not necessarily be star hotels.
The Royal Mezbon Hotel & Spa
4.5/544 Reviews
My choice for this hotel at the end of my Uzbekistan trip had been its closeness to the domestic and international airports. For my stay in Tashkent at the beginning of my tour I selected a hotel closer to the centre. The surroundings of the Royal Mezbon are not very pleasant: a very busy street, almost impossible to cross and nowhere to go on foot. Out the window, in fact a whole glass wall, which I like, one only saw ugly apartment blocks from Soviet days. Taxis are the only way to get out from here. The hotel recommends itself also as a spa, but my time here was so limited, that I could not test it. Nor did I have a chance to try the breakfast due to an early flight. Instead I went for dinner, where there were hardly any other guests. There is a bar and a big list of cocktails in the menu card, but the barman seemed to be a total beginner and he didn't even know what brand their only draught beer is. For dinner I had an arugula salad to start, but it consisted mainly of pieces of beef, not mentioned in the menu card. After that I had a 'Traditional Lagman', made with Spaghetti instead of typical Uzbek noodles and again mainly full of meat, the same kind as in the salad before. The whole hotel is full of kitsch with a porch consisting of Corinthian columns and a rather overloaded interior decoration. At least the room was comfortable with a good bed and shower. Unlike most other hotels I stayed in Uzbekistan here one doesn't get an old-fashioned key, but a key card.
