Burnside Hotel

We spent one night here. The Hotel is in a small village just outside Stratford. There is not much outside space other than parking. A warm welcome at Reception and felt totally safe with the COVID arrangements. The reception area was very clean as was our room (No.1 on the. ground floor). Indeed you would have thought it was a brand new room. The facilities in the room were excellent. Large TV with Movie channels. The walk-in shower was very clean. We ate in the Saddles Bar and the food was excellent. The breakfast service was great and the food was top quality. I have tried to find something to find fault with but I can't. Even the price was very reasonable.

The service was great! There was an error with room allocation and as the booked room was not available, we got upgraded to a suite which was wonderful as we were celebrating a special milestone birthday. The dinner at the Trevellyn Restaurant was beyond expectation as we were vegetarian and the vegetarian meal prepared by the chef was awesome. The hotel decor itself looked a little tired although it added to the authentic look of the listed building. It was a hot weekend during our stay and although there was no air conditioning, a small fan was provided which made a little difference when sleeping at night. The gardens needed some upkeep and it would have been lovely if the fountains had been working. Overall we did enjoy our stay and look forward to coming back again after it has gone through some upgrading and refurbishing.
Ettington Park Hotel, Stratford-Upon-Avon

This hotel is the most cost-effective hotel in my trip to England, very value! The room is large, the bed and pillows are very comfortable, the facilities are complete, the parking is free, and the breakfast is superb! In fact, it should be an old manor transformation, the garden is super large, reminding me of Downton Manor. The little brother at the front desk is super humorous and has a rich expression.

We had a lovely stay here, the facilities are really good. We enjoyed the pool and gym areas, there’s outdoor games to play and the grounds are beautiful. However, the service leaves a lot to be desired. A lot of the staff are very young and whilst friendly the method of service is very reactive (we noticed this in a few other reviews). Lots of glasses and plates being left around, dirty tables not being cleaned whilst groups of staff are stood in the corner chatting. I wouldn’t mind this as much if it wasn’t a 4/5 star hotel. Often staff would forget what you’d ask for and you’d be waiting ten minutes for a spoon or milk with your tea. Whilst the food is lovely it is fairly overpriced - this didn’t bother us as much as we had dinner credit included but I wouldn’t have eaten there without credit. Having said that, we had a great meal in the restaurant and the staff provided a pudding as a surprise for my birthday which was a lovely treat! Overall, we would return to stay again - but don’t expect 5* service.
Macdonald Alveston Manor Hotel

This hotel is well suited to the old phrase ‘fur coat, no knickers’. The main reception rooms are beautiful, but the actual accommodation leaves a lot to be desired. £229 felt like a huge sum of money for a random night in October, in a tatty room, with stains on the walls, chipped paint work that in places was more chip than paint, blackened grout in the bathroom, 1950s metal & single glazed prefab style windows and a door which looked as if it had been bust open at some point (nothing like making your guests feel safe). Also deciding to give the spa a swerve, on the basis that a quick look didn’t inspire much confidence, we were truly disappointed with this hotel & would not recommend it to anyone based on our experience. The stay was supposed to be a treat, but the decor is in dire need of a serious face lift. Interestingly, the person who checked us out did not ask if everything was satisfactory, or if we had enjoyed our stay. It was as if she knew it was a total rip off. For somewhere which oozes polished antique charm in its public rooms, Alveston Manor seemed somewhat hypocritical and grossly over-priced behind the scenes.
Crowne Plaza Stratford Upon Avon

We stayed at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Stratford for a couple of days. We like to come to the theatre a couple of times a year if we can to see the RSC. Could not miss the opportunity to see All's well that ends well. It's not performed that often. We have stayed in this hotel several times with mixed feelings. We have had great stays and some not so good. This time it was good. It was busy due to several corporate seminars being held at the same time. These seemed well organised and didn't affect our stay. We had booked breakfast for both days. The first morning was busy for breakfast but we where promptly sat at a very nice table overlooking the gardens. It is a full buffy service which was very good. Our waitress Clair was exceptional attentive and very pleasant. This was not the case on the following morning. We again had the table overlooking the garden. Claire the previous day had asked if we would like anything cooked from the kitchen. Boiled or pouched eggs omelette etc. This morning I had to find someone to take my order. I will not name her but, all she had to say was I'll be over in a minute. She came next to our table and set it for the next guests. Ignored us completely. After some time I spoke with a senior member of staff who didn't seem to acknowledge what I was saying, only telling a waiter to get me a pouched egg. Not the best experience I have had at the Crown Plaza. But all's well that ends well.
