The Hotel is nothing like what it is advertised as. No food available. No one was hardly ever there for you. The place was absolutely filthy. The garden was a tip with broken furniture, etc, left outside. There was no indication to say a dog would be roaming around the hotel, so with someone who has as allergies, this is an absaIute joke. I tried to contact @***********, but as the booking was not in my name, they didn't want to know. Even though my details were there as one of the party members booked in! It was a while ago now, and I found the photos that were taken at the time of our misfortunate stay. I may not have been able to put a complaint in at the time, which was very frustrating, but if it stops other bookings and other people being misled, then great! Check the photos out for yourself! @*********** you need to vet the Hotels that you recommend professionally!!

Had a great 3 night's stay to meet up with ex work friends. I contacted reception as I was going to arrive late and was provided with key box entry. Owner Dave and manager Judy were welcoming and helpful. I stayed in room 6, which has a four-poster bed and balcony. Had a great breakfast and on Dave's recommendation ate evening meals at Black Star pub on the canal and Namste restaurant which is in same street as Balwin House both very good. Balwin House was originally owned by grandparents of prime minister Stanley Baldwin, so has an interesting history. It's close to the canal, river and town centre.

Dave came to our rescue when we were turned away from a neighbouring hotel which we booked several weeks earlier because of some issue with booking. A customer there recommended the Baldwin guest house. Dave couldn’t have been more helpful for us all, rooms were lovely and they were clean. You couldn’t fault the food it was cooked perfectly and plenty of it .The service was outstanding they really couldn’t do enough for us. We will definitely be back it’s a perfect location for us to stay near my daughter and her family. Thanks again to all at Baldwin house😊

Dave helped us out when we were let down at another place, he is very friendly and couldn't do enough for us, we were only stopping for one night but his hospitality really made our short stay wort while, the room had everything we needed and the breakfast he cooked for us was absolutely excellent plus Princess his cocker spaniel is adorable, thanks again Dave

Beautiful Georgian house with great character and many original features. Dave was very friendly and welcoming. Also very knowledgeable of area. We had a beautiful room no 6. Wow 4 poster bed plus balcony absolutely beautiful. Great location close to canal and cafes/restaurants bars. Brilliant stay

It was great to return to this lovely Guest House for my visit. The owner and the receptionist were professional, efficient and effective while being friendly welcoming and helpful; all part of the charm of this place, providing a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The breakfast was superb and set me up for the day; I have already booked my next stay here along with some friends and I can't wait!

Dave was a great host. Stayed the one night and loved it. Will definately stay again. Right in the centre of the town. Went to the civic hall, and everything is within esdy reach. It isnt a chain hotel, just a proper room. I will look to book again

Loved staying here. Dave and Princess made us so welcome. It was like staying with family. Dave catered so well for gluten free. We stayed here to be able to visit my my father who has vascular Dementia . It was the first and last time our shoulders came down. Sorry to be so late giving this review. But it’s been a hard year. I’m sure we will visit again with our chocolate Labrador Stella. Many thanks for your amazing hospitality. Kind regards Al and Nikki Keeler. July 2021

Very unwelcoming on arrival, kept waiting after ringing the bell 3 times! Dave stated he was expecting us at 1.30pm despite check-in being up to 5ish! He said he was about to jump in the shower & in the middle of cutting his hair as he had a life to continue with! He looked very unkempt, shirt half undone & full of stains! Room was adequate size for a family & slept ok, partner hardly slept due to being too hot, floor boards very squeaky & decor very dated. Was clean but not spectacular - shower tray & soap dish had orange gunky stains around them. Good points was tea & coffee available in room, tv in room with a dvd player but was told to purchase dvd's from tesco! Breakfast not included in the £95 price & would half to pay £9.95 each if this was wanted so we went to McDonald's 10 mins up the road! Lovely area with a canal close by with barge boats, lots of places to eat near by...we went to the black star which was spectacular...food stunning & staff very friendly!
