Had a wonderful stay at the village. Simple and comfortable private room with shower, very clean. Common area is well equipped and comfortable. Gives you opportunities to meet other travellers from all over the world. The hosts and staff are very attentive, kind and helpful. The only thing we would have like to have was access to a microwave, but we managed without. All in all- great location, lovely hosts, felt like we were coming home every night. Highly recommend!

Fully equipped kitchen, comfortable lounge areas and tv room that makes any stay very pleasant. Outdoor area very green and walkable. Staff was very responsive helping us to recover an electronic laptop transformer we forgot in our room two days after we checked out! We are grateful and admired by the quality of service. An oasis in the middle of nowhere.

A beautiful cottage, in a beautiful place, everything perfect. Nice common space, comfortable rooms, good breakfast. Kid played a lot with the wooden carved toys and in the lawn. Kitchen fully equipped and friendly staff. 100/100 recommend

My family loved our stay at Sólheimar Eco-Village. We stayed in the Veghus guesthouse which provided a private bathroom and small kitchenette in our room. The guesthouse itself has a large, airy dining area and full kitchen, with coffee available to make anytime. In sunnier weather we would have taken advantage of the outdoor sitting area. Exploring the village, we discovered the grocery and gift shops, art gallery, children’s play area, and restaurant. We were thrilled to discover the gluten free items in stock at the grocery. The breakfast spread was perfect-baked goods, cereals (hot and cold), meat and cheese, fresh vegetables grown in Sólheimar’s greenhouses, fresh juice, etc. We enjoyed the artsy vibe here and the fascinating history of the community. I would definitely stay here again.

We totally appreciated the unique setup and experience - the staff was polite and helpful. Very helpful staff. Delicious breakfast. Clean room. We didn’t spend too much time here but enjoyed the stay. Things a little different: very quiet. Buildings ask to take off shoes before entering inside. Bathroom can get quiet wet after shower (it’s sort of open concept)

We booked through a third-party website and the booking said breakfast was included. 2 days before, we received a pre-arrival e-mail saying that they don't do breakfast in September. Fair enough (though we might have booked somewhere else if we'd known), but the third-party site presumably relies on information from accommodation providers and this should have been updated. Moreover, it took a worrying day to get a response from Solheimar when we queried this in order to shop appropriately. That apart, the bedroom was OK, though a bit too small to sit in. There was a sunroom (very pleasant), and a lounge (monopolized by a couple watching TV very loudly the first evening). A large communal kitchen is well equipped, and there were supplies of tea and coffee. But it was like being back in college, listening for the shower room door to open and dashing in when it was free! Where this place scores (and in some ways it does) is on location and setting. Solheimar is a lovely community to walk round as well, a bit like the Camp Hill communities in the UK - we wish more information had been available about it.

I didn’t get the email with the room house and number. It was a little stressful because of that. The place is fine and clean. No shampoo, conditioner or bath soap. Fine breakfast, not many options…..

The property is wonderful and was the perfect start to our trip in Iceland. Check-in was contactless (we were emailed instructions and the key was left in the door of our room) which was appreciated since we arrived after their reception office closed. Our stay was in the Brekkukot guesthouse. The room was small, but the beds were decently comfortable and there was ample space in the wardrobe for our clothes. The kitchen was large and had all of the amenities one might need. Our favourite spot was the sun porch which had a beautiful view of the landscape at sunrise and sunset, and was the perfect spot to enjoy a quiet coffee. I really enjoyed the trail that runs through the property. It's about 3 kms long, and while there are some boards that have broken through in the meadow section, it was a pleasant trail to explore with some gorgeous views along the way. The breakfast that's included had a decent selection of food and the coffee was excellent. Our only complaint was that breakfast started a bit late which meant we had to wait around instead of hitting the road early to get to sites before the tour buses (but we are also early risers so I doubt this breakfast time would affect many others). I really only had two issues with my stay at the Ecovillage. The first was that there were at least 12 individuals (including small children) staying in the Brekkukot guesthouse when we were there and there was only a single toilet in our hall that also shared space with the shower. If that many people are staying on the floor, there needs to be a second toilet available. My second issue was that the shower on our floor was not draining and the shower doors did not close/seal, so the entire bathroom and hall floor flooded with water after a very short shower (less than 5 minutes). I emailed the staff as I had no other way to contact them at 5:30 AM, but received no reply up to or even after we checked out later that morning (to-date I still have not received a reply from them about this). Mopping up the hall and bathroom floor without help of any kind wasn't how I planned on spending my last morning at the Ecovillage. There should be a phone number clearly posted that guests can call for any after hours emergency type situation, like the hallway and bathroom being flooded because of a poorly draining shower. Overall, our stay at the Ecovillage was a positive one. The two issues I described above wouldn't be enough to prevent me from returning on a future visit to Iceland. My friend and I both thought the place was good value for the money, and we appreciated the opportunity to have a quiet retreat to come back to after a long day of traveling.
