Conrad Shenyang

Let's start with the positives. The hotel's location is excellent, right behind Hang Lung Plaza and close to Xita, Middle Street, and the Shenyang Imperial Palace, all within a little over a kilometer. Shenyang North Station is just over two kilometers away. The room itself is very spacious. As an Executive Room, it's more than double the size of a comparable room at the Shangri-La in the same city. It boasts large floor-to-ceiling windows for great natural light, a separate walk-in closet, and a bathroom area that's as large as the bedroom, featuring a double vanity and a large two-person soaking tub with a view. All the toiletries are Byredo, and the ceramic cups and dishes are of excellent quality. The Executive Lounge offers large glass bottles of San Pellegrino and Evian, and the breakfast's English black tea is brewed from loose leaves, not tea bags. The breakfast selection is decent and the ingredients are high quality, with attentive chefs. These advantages certainly highlight the Conrad's foundation as a luxury hotel, but the operational management is severely lacking. Firstly, the room standards are quite low. Upon entering, I immediately noticed obvious dust accumulation on the desk lamp base. The dust on the edge of the storage compartment beneath the lamp base was so pronounced that it clearly wasn't a one-day accumulation and had been left unattended. There was also a large grease stain on the marble windowsill next to the desk. The complimentary bottled water is 'Shenyang Daqing Baoquan,' with a GB19298 standard, similar to the red-label Nongfu Spring. Shaving kits are not provided proactively. While the packaging of amenities like toothbrushes and toothpaste is nice, why use such oversized packaging for such tiny toothpaste tubes? Although the bathrobes seem to have been in use since the hotel opened, they are still soft and comfortable. However, the towels are old and completely lack fluffiness. Also, the shopping bag provided in the room looked used upon opening. There was no notepad in the room; upon opening the stationery holder, there was only a single A4 sheet, and it had been used. The pillow menu was hidden within the stationery. The plastic part of the electric kettle already showed signs of wear and tear. There was an issue with the bathroom drainage; after showering at night, the drain dripped for about ten minutes before stopping. The next morning, I saw that half of the stone cover for the drain opening was standing upright, and the drainage was still very slow. Upon returning to the room for lunch, there was a strong sewage smell. The hairdryer outlet in the bathroom was also loose. Turndown service didn't include water replenishment, and the turndown gift and welcome fruit platter—a 4-yuan bottle of Ba Wang Si soda, one large tomato with four cherry tomatoes and two strawberries—hardly justify the 2200 yuan per night room rate. The service was also disappointing, to say the least. I booked a week before the May Day holiday, but didn't receive a pre-arrival call from the hotel before checking in. Upon entering the main lobby on the first floor, I was unsure where to go to check in. The concierge at the entrance was engrossed in her phone and only directed us after she finished. Around 4:30 PM, I was waiting for someone on the first floor. The concierge went up to deliver luggage, and for the 20 minutes I was waiting, the concierge desk was completely unstaffed. When I returned in the evening, the concierge stood at the door with one foot resting, looking tired. Upon entering the lounge, one concierge and one lounge staff member were chatting while tidying up, about 20 minutes before closing time, with guests still dining. Only one staff member nearby said hello, and then nothing. The three of them then proceeded to admire the night view by the floor-to-ceiling windows, completely unresponsive to guests entering or leaving. The lounge isn't very large and doesn't offer breakfast. During afternoon tea, there were over four service staff, more than the concierge team, yet the buffet counter lacked basic setup, and guests had to retrieve their own napkins and cutlery. There was a complete lack of basic enthusiasm and proactiveness. The next morning at breakfast, despite many empty tables in the restaurant, guests were made to queue for seating. If there aren't enough service staff, the hotel could certainly reallocate internal resources. Only one tall, bespectacled concierge on the 88th floor provided the level of service I would expect from a luxury hotel. Upon checking out, looking at the past accolades displayed in the lobby felt like a complete mockery.

This was my third stay here, and every time it's been on a weekend, so I understand the breakfast area can get crowded. However, what happened today was truly infuriating. I was having a peaceful breakfast when a family of six, including children, came in. They sat at the table next to mine (a four-seater) and, because they couldn't all fit, they insisted on sharing my table. Two elderly people ended up sitting with me. It's not so much the sharing that bothered me, but why didn't they say a simple 'thank you' or 'sorry to bother you'? At first, it was just the grandmother, but then when I went to get more food and came back, the grandfather was there too. My face just instantly darkened. The staff was good though; they noticed I was upset and immediately moved me to another table. Even as I was moving, did this family not realize they should have said 'excuse me' or 'thank you'? They all just stared at me, as if I was supposed to give up my seat for them. I know weekends are busy, so I hope the hotel can better manage the dining crowd and table arrangements. It really spoils the mood, especially when you have to share a table with such inconsiderate people.

The hotel environment is quite comfortable, offering great privacy, and the night view is definitely a highlight. Lisa was wonderful; she brought us treats after breakfast for two days straight, which was a thoughtful touch. It would be even better if the air quality in the room could be improved. It's a bit of a shame I didn't get the little tiger souvenir, but other than that, I'm generally satisfied. Oh, and the direct access to Hang Lung Plaza is very convenient!

Facilities: The breakfast restaurant offers excellent views and a wide variety of food choices. Environment: Great location, just a 5-minute walk to the subway station, and a mall right downstairs. Service: They kindly delivered a lot of water to my room, which was very thoughtful.

Absolutely love it, I always stay here whenever I visit. The environment, cleanliness, facilities, and service are all top-notch! I'll definitely keep choosing this place. The breakfast is also really good.

This was my first time in Shenyang, and for an important anniversary, I chose the Conrad as our base for a three-day, two-night stay. Here’s an objective review based on my actual experience: **Location:** The hotel is very close to both Beizhan (North Station) and Shenyang Station, about a ten-minute taxi ride. If you take the subway, it’s just one transfer, and you can reach Exit A of Renmin Square Station on Line 2 (which is the entrance to MixC Hang Lung Plaza) in about 30 minutes. From the first floor of Hang Lung Plaza, there's a glass automatic door that connects directly to the hotel's first floor. Regarding Hang Lung Plaza, I won't comment on the shopping as I didn't explore it much. However, it’s very convenient to take the escalator down to the basement for a meal, grab some snacks at the supermarket/convenience store, play Taiko or Maimai at the arcade on the basement level, or sing karaoke at Mei KTV on the third floor accessible by a scenic elevator. This definitely adds to the convenience of staying at the Conrad. **Service:** * **Pre-Stay Service:** I didn't receive any pre-arrival calls or contact, which is usually standard for five-star hotels. It made me think, 'Hmm?' a little, but it wasn't a major issue. During check-in, the front desk informed me that our room was still being prepared but offered a complimentary upgrade to a smoking room so we wouldn't have to wait. I accepted the kind offer and was relieved that the smoke smell in the room wasn't very noticeable. * **During-Stay Service:** On the first night, I wanted to take a bath, but the bathtub took nearly two hours to fill, only reaching the depth shown in the photo. After half an hour, I thought it was just because the tub was large and filling slowly, but when it was still the same after more than an hour, I suspected the drain wasn't sealing properly. However, it was quite late, and I didn't want to bother the hotel staff with repairs at that hour, especially since we’d already received an upgrade. It felt like that 'don't ask for a bicycle when you've been given a watch' kind of awkwardness. So, the next morning, I called housekeeping to ask if someone could check it while we were out in the afternoon. When we returned the next evening, the first thing I did was fill the tub, and seeing the water successfully rise made me so happy! I could finally take a bath! I'm grateful to the staff for solving the problem on time. Later that night, we went to the executive lounge on the 83rd floor for the evening light meal. The food was excellent, and they were proactive in asking about our needs. Special thanks to Cloris, Luna, and Rachel for their warm service. **Facilities:** As mentioned above, the room was generally in good condition. There were a few areas that showed some wear or minor human-made stains, but nothing major. Honestly, you don't really use or even touch every single part of a suite; it's always just a few key areas. The bathtub issue might have been a 'historical problem' left by a previous guest, but at least I got it resolved. This does, however, suggest that there's room for improvement in terms of facility maintenance and even upgrades. **Dining:** The executive lounge's food has already been mentioned, so I won't repeat it. For breakfast, I went at 8 AM and 9 AM on the two different days. As expected, it was less crowded earlier. You swipe your room card, then an attendant guides you to an empty table and asks if you'd like coffee or tea. Overall, breakfast was quite good, offering most of the varieties you'd expect from a typical five-star hotel. **Final Thoughts:** One minor point of annoyance was the hotel's elevators. Many guests have mentioned the hassle of having to transfer elevators on the 88th floor to get from the hotel entrance to their room. Personally, I think the waiting time for the elevators is more frustrating than the transfer itself. From the 88th-floor lobby to the rooms on lower floors, there are four elevators. Without judging whether that's too many or too few, objectively speaking, every time I waited for an elevator from my room floor to the 88th floor, or from the 88th to my room, it always took over a minute. There was never a time when an elevator arrived within thirty or forty-five seconds of pressing the button. And often, when the elevator did arrive, it was empty. Perhaps it was because I stayed on a weekend and the hotel had an event? The above only represents my personal experience during this stay.

I was in Shenyang temporarily and heard good things about the Conrad Hotel, so I decided to stay there. The hotel has plenty of underground parking. The front desk staff were very welcoming and efficient during both check-in and check-out. The room had a great view and all the essential amenities were provided. Room service was also prompt. The only minor inconvenience was having to switch elevators to get around, but overall, it's definitely a recommended stay.
